Hi Solar and everybody else who bothers reading my question!

I, as I am a relatively new player, would like to ask all experienced and/or wise players what they think about joining the raiders faction.

My goal for my first character was to become a better-than-average small arms gunsmith and so far, I like how it's going.

At the moment I have the Gunsmith profession [2] (thanks, Boyce on this occasion :) ) and would like to get the third level as well.
But from all what I have learnt through the wiki and hearsay, some considerable drawbacks come along with joining the raiders.
As far as I know, however, the only way to obtain Level [3] is becoming an "evil" raider with Miller as my mentor.

Now here comes my discrepancy:
I am a good natured player (so is my character) *thumbsup for the trait*
and would rather refrain from joining raiders if there was any other way to achieve my goal.

So, my fellow wastelanders, what is your advice?


And please no stupid answers like "make a new character" or "omg your so pwnd"
I take this roleplaying thing pretty seriously and think, most other wastelanders should do so, too.
But I am well aware of the fact that there's idiots of every age, in every country, some with really disturbing affectations
and some suffering from massive complexes...

Well, join raiders, learn what you need, quit raiders, wait for a while and then your karma shpuld be alright.
RPly saying: you are joining Raiders to steal their secrets, you are somebodys undercover agent or doing this for your own good.

Currently there is really no other way in gaining the third level of the small guns profession.  :-\
You'll have just average weapons if you don't want to part of the raiders. But I like how you think of your actions and the consequences they do in the game for your character. :) It was the same reason I refrain from Small Guns 3 and rather take Armorer 1/2. I don't want my character to be part of an evil organisation. ;)
But, if we are lucky and wait patient for the next update, maybe there'll be new ways to obtain SG3, not just at the Raiders camp. :)

Your RP explanation really got me! My biggest issue was that I could possibly never
show up in the Republic or any other peace-loving city again...

But now my worries are all gone and I go pick up that suitcase with jet and bring this whole thing on the way

As I understood it gives +2 PE to formula for % to hit over 5 hexes.

But someone said once that also increases FoV range. Is it true? I doubt it, just need clearifaction.

What exactly is the yellow circle on the map...i made the mistake of going into one...and dying almost immediately....i thought it was just a game bug w/ random stuff popping up on the map..i didn't know u could go inside it

It's where a caravan or car has been stopped and is in an encounter or area.

I.E. (id est) Yellow circle = Luring area where douchebags like to kill anyone who enters as soon as they show up.

Question for thinking:
To pick "Adrenaline Rush" perk (gives you +1 ST, when your HP drops below 50%) you need <10 ST.
So, you have 9 ST.
Picking this perk on 6th level.
Then on 12th level you picking "Gain Strength" perk.
Now you have 10 ST.
And now you're under 50% HP, so you...?

Probably you won't be able to take perk "Gain strength" if you took "Adrenaline Rush" before.

Wrong answer. Just try to pick "Bruiser" trait with 9 ST.
You'll have 0 or 1 ST, can't remember.

So with these 2 perks and <50% HP you'll have 0 or 1 ST! Theoretically. May be.... must be.

In fact, you will just have 10ST. What you see on your character SPECIAL when you take buiser with ST is a bug and is not apply IG. It's just stop at 10. Same with Adrenaline rush I guess.

Damn it, just tested it, yes, 10 ST, not 1 or 0.
But I can remember very long time ago in pew-wipe I once did 10 ST + Bruiser + 10 AG + Small Frame, so I got around 90% Unarmed at 1st level. And when I started a game, I still had ~90% Unarmed, but my ST and AG was on min. Now it's on 10.

For example, after you see someone steal, and the NCR guard says something like "You didn't even try, did you?" should I be allowed to shoot the guy who stole?  Regardless of any bugs, etc, that is.

P.S. yeah I saw the guy do it, so I knew who it was.

Yes you can, the only problem is you must see who was stealing. If you didn't saw that and can't discovered who's that... then it's a problem. Of couse it must contain name.
Because phrases like:
That was pathetic.
You didn't even try, did you?
It was a kind of joke. (probably)
doesn't contain any name, so sometimes you don't know who was a stealer.

little dose does nothing.
then your stats get lowered (i think AGI, ST, END)
then you get even bigger penalities to SPECIAL
at some point (1000 rads) you just die- you start loosing hp very fast.

radiation level drops very slow, take rad-away or go and see some NPC doctor

If you want to see with your own eyes how exactly radiation works then go to The Glow and stay there for a while (just a few minutes). You'll notice big changes very quickly.

It will slowly get better, capped at -200.

It goes exactly on 63 reputation points.
If you had -350 (Antipathy) reputation with VC.
Tomorrow you will have -287 (Neutral) reputation.

Then it's a bug, because everyday my reputation with NCR increasing on 63 (if I have negative reputation... in other words always.)
My SG-burster once got exact -1400 with NCR, and on next day in was -1337. And I noticed it long time ago. So this bug is not for only one character and not only sometimes. I always was rounding at ~100 points when explaining to someone, but only few days ago I discovered exact value, and it's 63.

how is working  :
- Sneak
- Jinxed (statistic,  -/+ , etc)
- Night Person (statistic,  -/+ , etc) for example:  if i,ve 5 INT and 7 PERC and i want get Sharpshooter can i take it by night ? and what with SP day/night ?
- Why 10 luck + 3x better crit gives more eye  crit chance than Finesse + 6 luck + 3x better crit

It's always your  basic SPECIAL (the one you have when you create you char) which is used for the perks. So with 7PE ans night person you can't.

Wrong, they can. Both players and NPCs have level, it's just that NPCs don't gain level like players.

Well, for NPCs, HP is increased with level*0.05*previous_max_hp each time they level up.
All skills also increase with 5 points.

Remember that this is how it works right now, it will probably be changed some time in the future.

Fallout 2 items and their effects:
First Aid Kit = +20% to FA
Field Medic First Aid Kit = +40% FA
Doctor's Bag = +20% doc

My question is, do these items work the same in FOnline too? If they do work, what % do they boost and HOW do they boost it (Do I have to hold them in active slot to get the bonus? Or can I hold them in other hand while in main hand I wield my gun? Or do they provide +bonus just for having them in inventory?).

Toughness.

Dodger is some kind of useless at the moment, as it modifies your AC (armor class). Armor class just decreases the ability of the enemy to hit you, but as nearly everyone has a build with ~200% Small Guns,Big Guns, Energy Guns etc. this perk doesn't really change anything.

actually, toughness is only useful vs. minigunners and other conventional weapons, but it's main use it beating down the minigunner class a bit, that +4 damage theshold to every bullet has saved me many times against lsw and minigun users, no all i can think about is hunting em down, although it is a pain in the ass to create a 4 END sniper alt because of the obvious loss of the double toughness i've gotten used to...

It gives +3 to your PE when you have check on what distance you'll far away from critters you encounter. So, with this perk you'll be on some hexes away from critters.

renesco is in western part, the doctor. Professor is in residential area, in one of easter buildings. Vic does give book.

i went to him...he gave nothing...i'll go get a screen shot...klahmath is far...here's shots of professor...nothing...so my next question is..i got the book from the guy in VC...but the other three won't give me jack shit...is the mission suppose to show up in my pipboy? and the reason i can't get it b/c of that?

If you ticked the option "both modes" in your foconfig.exe , when you stumble upon an encounter on the worldmap, if your outdoorsmanskill is high enough and the roll is good, you get asked wether you want the encounter in turn based, or in real time mode.
If you have outdoorsman roll, you'll choose between TB/RT anyway, regardless what mode you've taken. "Both modes" working same like "Real-Time". So it has no difference, as I know.

No, it'll be RT, because YOU encountered him, if he got RT, then encounter will be in RT, and everyone who come there will be in RT.
If you created this encounter in TB, then everyone, who get in, will be in TB, even if they have RT in config, because it's YOUR encounter.

If you created this encounter in TB, then everyone, who get in, will be in TB, even if they have RT in config, because it's YOUR encounter.


There were several times when I stumbled upon someone elses encounter, which was fully Realtime. When I entered the map, it became turn based and very very often people start to get angry about this. :D

you need to talk with dude in amenities office to be able to receive books from those others.

And I'll confirmed that "both modes" is the same thing as "real-time". If you get your outdoorsman and get to choose to go into a fight, you get to choose whether you want Turn-based or real-time, regardless of what your option was.

question about party system. How do you keep in a party it seems it works for a bit then when say after a encounter i go to leave and sometimes the window that says for my friend to follow wont come up. So my question is do you keep having to click that party looking button each time?

No, you shouldn't have to. When you enter an encounter with something hostile, combat with immediately start if you are in Turn-Based. So the question is, are you in turn-based battle when your friend leaves and you want to join him? Also, if you are in real-time, make sure your Combat cooldown is gone.

Btw, "T" button toggles the view of Tags.

Was it turn-based or real-time when you actually entered the encounter? If the leader doesn't get attacked by a foe and is able to leave, the follower might not be able to leave because he just got hit by a critter or something.

Oh, also, forgot to make screenshot, but I have only 12% Energy weapons skill, holding a laser rifle at hands, have only 5 ST (laser rifle requires 6 ST, or else -20% to hit). But I have 58% to hit at point blank and at distance ~8 hexes to 0 AC person (*I had 54% to 4 AC person also). Start of ~9th hex I had dramatically lose my % to hit, and in few (3-4) hexes it was 5% to hit (minimal). I even killed 3 thieves with this laser rifle and 12% EW skill.

So there's a question:
Is "Long Range" weapon perk bugged and overpowered? I mean, it working at close range too? I have 8 PE, probably this is bonus I got to chance to hit, and that's why I had so "high" chance to hit a target. Probably I need to post it in bug section, but I want to clearify how exactly Long Range perk works?

 This is more a problem than a question:

 My character is CH:6, IN:6 and hasn't spent a single point in Barter. I at the moment dedicate to kill raiders, robbers, mobsters, and sell their weapons to buy more ammunition (usually .44, but making a transition to .223 guns or 5mm would be nice). My other source of income is crafting BB's. The question is ¿Which are the best locations to apply this hunter/reseller strategy? Prices for my items at Hub make me cry, Gunrunners usually lack currency, so does the trader at Adytum, and New Reno, the only place which offers me 2 traders with different merchandise thresholds (Renesco, Eldridge) is regularly camped by PKs. Not to mention the general shortage of .44 and .223.

What does my loot consist of? Regularly ugly Mausers, 10mm pistols, D'eagles, Huntin' rifles, 10mm SMGs. You know.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Psycho gives to you -9 PE.
So, if you have 10 PE, you use psycho, your PE becomes 10-9=1.
Then you use x2 cigs: 10-9+1+1=3.
Then x2 mentats: 10-9+1+1+1+1=5.

Yes, of couse it's going "under" 1. You have penalty -9, but SPECIAL can't be higher than 10 and lower than 1. So, for example, if you have 8 PE, using psycho will make it 1, not -1. But you still will have -9 penalty, so taking 1 cig will make this penalty -8, still 1 PE, taking other cig will make -7, again 1 PE..

It says to delete your character you have to type "~deleteself (password)  But I do it and it says invalid password... I did the ~myinfo and I retyped password and it still invalid apparently.  Not only that but after searching it say I have to type it in AFTER I've logged out which is impossible...  help?

Deletself should work perfectly if you do it like this: ~deleteself password

No brackets or parentheses. What it says on the forum is wrong. After you do that it will say that your character will be deleted after you log out. By this it means log out, wait 3 minutes, and then login again on your remade account, if you wish to remake it that is.

You'll need an alt to create other base, because base=gang.
And then add to 2nd base your 1st base-members as a friends of 2nd base.

How long does a nuka cola addiction last?

4 or 5 days ago while doing quests I got a mentat addiction first and a nuka cola addiction not long after that.
The mentat addiction is cured, but I'm still having the nuka cola addiction.
However my character isn't suffering from the -1 AG.
I'm not sure if it's a difference in the duration of the addictions or that it's some kind of bug caused by 2 addictions which would end approximately within the same hour.

According to the wiki it lasts just as long as mentats.
As I suffered both almost at the same time and 1 is gone and 1 isn't, I wasn't sure the wiki is correct.
If it is, I probably run into a minor bug.
As said, I'm not suffering the -1 AG.

Yeah, before the wipe my chr had a Nuka-Cola addiction that never went away.  There weren't any side affects though.

I call it roleplaying... It can be a part of your character without have any effect on your stats.

Yes, they can under certain circumstances. If you just do "Expel Member" command on the faction terminal, they will be able to see the base. You must kill them inside the base after expelling them for them to not be able to see it.

Here is my suggestion:
Get a powerful mercenary near the spawn point of the base, set it to only attack enemies of the faction (Or every non-member if you choose), give it a minigun, and one day that person you want expelled will get blown away from it before the map even loads for them.

EDIT: Note, you must have the expelled member's status as "Enemy" of course.

Normal cola contains caffeine which gives an energy boost.
Combined with a lack of sugar it would result in a lack of energy.
Nuka cola contains energy cells, meaning you would need to kick of from the energy boost it gives.
It should result in a temporary drawback in action points.

Not knowing about sugar water addiction, yeah apparently I know nothing about addictions.

-1 action point isn't unbalanced in my opinion.
According to the wiki (http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Nuka_cola) nuka cola does -1 AG.
Most people have an even AG, so for most people that means -1 AP.
The wiki says the effect last 20 days.
I'm already passed that, so no more negative effect even though I'm not taking the stuff anymore, yet the addiction is eternal and uncurable?
Very weird in my opinion.
Also if that's correct, someone please adjust the wiki.

Equip shovel to use on item and shovel some, I have a bunch in my inventory now
I try and talk to the guy again to get my xp and caps but I can only initiate the job, not end it.

Am I missing something?

Getting them in your inventory is not cleaning them.
You have to get the shovel in your inventory, click on a shit and select the bag, then the shovel in your inventory. A text will appear, telling you you shovelled one shit and gained some xp. Talk back to the herdsman to get the caps.

I tryed many times, also tryed to disarm to get thier weapon, I even exploded with a bomb once one GM (in captain of NCR army skin), nothing helps. Also they immune to critical hits/effects.

I had a few question concerning private mines: is it required to have a escort of your faction members  to buy a private mine? Can you invite people to this location or is it visibly automatically for your gang members? Does the location have a terminal and a workbench?

I had a few question concerning private mines: is it required to have a escort of your faction members  to buy a private mine? Can you invite people to this location or is it visibly automatically for your gang members? Does the location have a terminal and a workbench?
Are there private HQ mines?

Since i went to old medical terminal position and i saw its gone, then i watched all "medical terminal looker likes" , none of them seemed to be real med terminal so i wonder was medical terminal removed or replaced to any other place? Tagging someone is clicking on him and selecting the arrow, by then, if you are near him when he goes in an exit grid, you have the option to follow him on worldmap. It is used by teams (to travel together) but also by griefers. If someone followed you, just re-enter the location and leave or click on him while on worldmap and choose the eject icon.

They're unlootable/undroppable weapon.
Tryed many times, you'll see message "and weapon droppped." but nothing dropped, they still shoot at you.

I cant access my inventory and the skilldex and i cant use it on an equipped brahmin hide. If i put the hides on the ground and use the pointer on them it tells me that i need more hides. Confused

No idea if this is fixed with the last update.
The easiest way is to remember the times:
- 2 and 8 AM and PM go from NCR to VC
- 4 and 10 AM and PM go from NCR to the Boneyard

I think everyone can agree thats a load of crap tbh.....

Maybe not with every merchant but with some of them this has been proven.

Another question:  Why have merc's prices been jacked up?  Are they better than pre-update?  If not I find them somewhat useless to loner players....  I'll just use slaves if i must.

Apparently NCR station also has a quest that unlocks its location, however I don't think I've ever came across it and I assume Youkai meant the "Rail Line Gang" quest by his statement from the other thread but that quest didn't add the location when I checked recently.

So what quest does unlock its location?

i never completed one of these quests (vault city, followers of apocalypse, ncr tandi, do not know what else).
 i started with boneyardstation (followers of apocalypse show you) and travel to the other stations. first sanfran then i checked the time if train leave from boneyard to the ncr. rest is history

one way to solve this problem is creating an alternative char with charisma 9.
let him hire some  mercs.invite him to your base. there you have your guards.. but that idea sucks a little bit

The problem there is getting them there in the first place since dual-logging is illegal in the game....

The encounter is called "Enrologists" on the world map, but if you used Look on them, they are called Hubologists. Hubologists can have Power Fists, which is small energy cell (Energy C Cell) powered (Like Rippers). They don't have MFC.

somewhere i find info that every bulet in burst mode has own chance to hit and when one bulet miss target also other bullets folowing it will automaticaly miss too

Then go to Modoc, and exchange it for jerky meat 2:1 ratio.
Then you can use it for crafting different drugs.

1) If you're 10 CH character or have high science and repair skills (don't know exact numbers, but 120% repair and 100% science isn't enough), just talk to guard and you'll be VC citizen. Or else:
2) Go to Gecko, inside reactor find a ghoul (run to north corridor, not east), if you have 10 ST then he'll give you that thing, if not, then you can buy it for don't know how much.
*Create an alt with 10 ST, run there in bluesuit, take a thing, drop somewher at VC, pick up by main. If you die at Gecko, you have nothing to lose, if you lost quest item - ~deleteself, create other 10 ST alt, repeat.
Oh, also of couse you need to leave your previous PC/NPC faction.

How to get 1500+/- Reputation on any city ? When reaches 1000 it`s stop, this is a max of reputation or mayby can higher ?

You can't get higher than 1k by trading.
Some quests increasing your reputation regardless of what rep you had before, or joining/leaving PC factions can change it to.

Buying a base = becoming a gang leader (or a member), of couse you can't be in 2 factions at the same time.
But you can be as a friend of a faction (you'll see base on map, mercs won't shoot at you with option "shoot all who isn't a member or a friend", but if you die at base, you'll need to make friendship again).

Question about mercenaries:

I've noticed when I bought a mercenary (Though the prices are still quite insane) to test out how much they have improved in general I have noticed that a mercenary I have bought preveiously e.g. the last classic gunmen merc at bottom of list, has 140 hp instead of her usual 120 hp.  I'm not complaining, but I just want something to work with here, is she my level ?  I have 135 hp and she has 140 hp meaning she is possibly my level (21) and I wanted to know before I start having her grind up her level if its even worth doing since she is possibly lvl 21 already?

Oh and i noticed something really strange, she had 123/140 hp when i bought her and i had to First Aid her.  Any ideas about that?

This is a bug, will be fixed in the next update.

It's almost the same as 1 CH as I know, so if you can't talk to some NPCs with 1 CH, then you won't talk to them with 2 CH too.

Yes, but you can always die to lose all levels of radiation.

Further you'll lose some STR, END and then all SPECIAL except for Luck.

Also on max radiation level you'll turn into goo.

the real question is how much xp do they need to lvl? If its the same as players then no wonder it takes forever to get them to 21.

Yes, merc stats are slightly randomized from base stats.

If you tamed a brahmin and get it to your tent, it will stay forever unless you kill it. ;)
The number of tamable Brahmin is dependent on your Number of Charisma.

Well... this merc should have the same natural armor as normal super mutant, and if it's so, then he'll have 40% DR and 5 Treshold.
But... it's just my thinks. ;p

that is correct, but i did it for the lulz only,  9 charisma and 10 charisma is completely the same ^^ (except that with 9 you can lead 9 people group only, but if you have mp this no longer bothers you)

If by VATs you mean targeting, If you have fast shot you can't use it, And if not, Right click your weapon/fists with it in your active hand until you see a bullseye on the top-right part of the weapons image.

1) Starting HP = 15+ST+ENx2;
2) HP per level = 2+EN/2 (rounded down);

So, first of all count your starting HP with 1st formula, then add to this quantity 2nd formula x20 (20 levels).

So, for example you have 5 ST and 5 EN:
15+5+5x2=30;
2+5/2=4.5 -> 4;
30+4x20=110.

3) Lifegiver perk on 12th level gives to you 4 HP/level and total 40 HP.
4) Second Lifegiver on 15th level gives 28 HP total.
So with x2 Lifegiver, 5 ST and 5 EN you'll have 110+40+28=178 HP.

I am playing Fonline with some friends and one of them wants to make an "Energy Expert". Does he need to put some points into Charisma to actually get all 3 profession-levels or would he be able to do so with Charisma 1? He doesnt need to make quests because we can provide the starting equipment and also have a trader char in our group.

You can always eat mentats, which temporaly increases your CH on 2.
So if you need CH only for prof, then it's not so painfuly to use mentat once in a life.

I know that it is possible to take Mentats...but he wanted to try a "non-drug-build". So to make it crystalclear, he needs at least CH3 to get the professions? If so, we will think about the way to meet the requirements.

i guess thats not a bad advice. you tell us your friend dont need charisma for these quests or trading with npc´s

Character doesn't disappear from server as along as it's in combat mode. So it's impossible to run away just by logging off during battle, especially in turn based. And even if you fight in real time and you quit right after combat mode closed, there is 3 minute log off timeout so enemies in the location will probably get you anyway.

They are called Private Mines that you can buy. But it really isn't worth it at all to buy it right now, and the GMs had even said it isn't worth it. Their resources deplete rather quickly and they don't give HQ material, only regular. In the future it will probably change.

did you experience something like, when you go hunt for muties for example, you'll find 1 enconter very quick, then it takes forever to find a 2nd one, as if there were some kind of cooldown regarding encounters ?

Yes, there's a CD on encounters with non-low-grade loot like Unity, Enclave, BoS, etc.

It was usefull before wipe, but for now, dissassembling is useless : you won't gain much material, and only low quality, even with much science.

It is your Luck that affects it the most. Skill just affects your accuracy, but that 95% leaves a 5% for a miss and therefore always the chance for a critical miss, since you have 1 Luck. Also, your Strength affects it if you are using a weapon that requires more than the Strength you have. I just hit level 4, and I've been cranking repair, but I can't push it past 120%.  Do I have to reach a certain level to go higher or perform some task?  Searched the forums and found bupkus.

After 110% it takes more skill points to put into a skill to produce the same effect.

Alright, probably a less stupid question- Mitch at the Hub general store has shovels.  I want to buy one so I can give it to Dan for that miniquest and still have one to shovel with.  It's only worth $1; I tried to trade a piece of meat jerky ($5) for the shovel and four caps.  Mitch accepted the trade, took the jerky, gave me the caps, but I got no shovel.  I traded again, one cap for the shovel, lost the cap, and again, no shovel.  Do I have to get rid of mine first or something?  I'm extremely reluctant to do so without being certain I'll be able to get another.

It is your Luck that affects it the most. Skill just affects your accuracy, but that 95% leaves a 5% for a miss and therefore always the chance for a critical miss, since you have 1 Luck. Also, your Strength affects it if you are using a weapon that requires more than the Strength you have. Well that helps, plus I was using Tommy gun only because it was a gun i was given for free, and the only gun in ncr vendors where there was a plentifulish amount of ammo.

After 100%, not 110% ;p
Getting from 100% to 101%(102% if skill is tagged) consumes 1 SP, from 101% it's 2.

Because you holding a shovel in your main hand / off-hand, and it stack in one slot. That means you're holding 2 or 3 shovels now.

An ass hole pk gang controls the town and had them kill you.  Basically everyone is off limits to some cities because of this >.>.

There is a timer for bartering, if u dont finish barter in some time and u r currently dragging some countable stuff(caps,ammo), u'll get "ban" for barter. Restarting the game helps, there's no need to starting a new char :p . The EW guy in Gecko is in the Power Plant at the end.

There is no 'ban' in bartering it is simply a bug, not that I have even had this bug unless you are talking about how the cursor doesn't change after the barter window closes, so you have to reclick somewhere to change your cursor or else it doesn't do anything.

Rule is : One character per player at a time, and waiting 10 minutes between each character connection. If you don't wait, we'll see it, and if you log several characters at once, we'll see it too ;p That's why having two computers doesn't bring any advantage (and it's fair).

Heh, if you could steal on world map, you would see lots thieves near exit grid tagging you and cleaning your inventory before you kick them from a party. ^_^

Before wipe CD on this quest was 4 real life hours. So try to repeat this quest in 4 hours after you complete it.

I've got another question. With one of my other characters, becoming a Slaver was pretty easy, but then when I talked to Metzger, I had the option to join his guild. Is this guild a separate faction on it's own? If so, what are the benefits of joining it?

you get access to the raiders compound, therefore granting you the ability to take the 3rd level of Small gunsmith, and a workbench with advanced tools, which allows you to craft any small gun and any normal weapons ammo. The drawback is that you will be shot on sight in ncr, you will be unable to join any player faction, and that you will not be able to join any other faction at all.

Btw Slaver+BOS member=very bad, I think they'll burst you on sigh at bunker, but I'm not sure, so I don't think it's possible to be a slaver and an initiate of BOS at the same time.

BoS bursting slavers on sight? Like NCR Ragners did before till thier FoV "bugged" (really fixed for guards), so now it's deactivated. Because with great NPC FoV NCR Rangers saw slavers on bazaar, ran throught all town from workbrench and then shoot poor guy. But BoS should still kill slavers on sight, probably.

I think I'm missing something (well, a lot, but also this in particular):

When engaged in unarmed combat, the AP cost of attacks fluctuates between base cost+1 aiming AP cost and base cost+1 aiming AP cost + 1 AP.

Meaning, strong punch, aimed, is supposed to (?) cost 4 AP points. Sometimes that's how much it takes, others 5 APs are detracted. The 5 AP cost sometimes shows in the weapon box as well, and if I cycle through attack modes, goes back to show 4 AP, but using it actually still costs 5.

I'm likely missing something, but a (admittedly, quick) search for any changes to unarmed combat didn't really produce anything answering this issue. Wiki doesn't mention any additional costs for attacks, either, so.

1. You can't go into any encounters (unless you click the green triangle) while staying still. If you took a drug that made your HP go down, that can still affect you on the world map. If you somehow have -HP and then log out for three minutes then log back in, you will be on the world map with -HP, unable to move until your Healing rate kicks in.
Your Healing Rate (if this is what you mean by regeneration?) adds to your health whether you are moving or not. I'm not sure how fast the frequency of the healing rate is.

2. No, they don't affect the chance to find special encounters as it would only lead to farming alts. I'm not sure what you mean by numerical specifications, sorry.

Once you acquired the 3rd level you can leave the raider faction.

Joining and leaving will have reputation changes, see the raider's faction wiki page (http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Raiders_faction).
If you're concerned about your reputation with other factions or want to increase it with some, you could do the following:
Craft the ammo and weapons you want/need and store them in your tent or another save place.
Pack a good gun, ammo, armor and some superstims and go the the northern raider's base to leave the faction.
Once you've left, shoot as many raider's as possible to increase your reputation with certain other factions (and decrease it with certain other factions).
Check the raider's faction wiki page to see which factions are influenced in which way when killing raiders at their base.
You're still able to see the raider's bases after you've left.

My faction has 7 mercs at the entrance positioned with LSWs. They are all set to "Kill anyone not a member (or Friend) of the faction". Some of the mercs are owned by me, some of them another player. If my merc accidentally bursts the other member's merc while aiming for another player, will that merc go berserk and try to fight my merc? If so, anyway to stop this?

It will since a burst does not count as friendly fire if it accidentaly hits the wrong target.

Aside from being able to cure Weakness all of the time at max level, is there any other reason to increase Doctor up to 210%? If not, what's the highest Doctor skill I should take in order to heal all possible injuries?

Oh, that's interesting. I noticed that with 120% in the skill I can already surgically repair crippled eyes very reliably. Maybe I'll get it up to 130, then take the Living Anatomy perk to qualify for VC citizenship. I originally left room to build Doctor up to 210%, but I thought about it and decided against pumping it up so high just for the guaranteed Weakening recovery.

Before joining the Vault City faction, you should keep in mind, that some other factions (Raiders, The Unity, Bishop Family and so on) will attack you when you are a Vault City citizen.

I got my doc up to 150 and then took Living Anatomy at 170. You heal crippled limbs always (I haven't failed once yet, and I've gotten a lot of crippled limbs), and you heal weakening about 90% of the time.

210% is what was needed pre-wipe for the 100% chance (or is it 95%?), I'm not sure if they changed the formula just like how they changed the First Aid/Luck formula.

New formula: Random((10+LK)*skill/100, skill).

In essence, the lower bound for random is (10+LK)% of the skill value. Having a First Aid Kit or Field Medic Kit in the active slot increase the skill by 25 or 50 percent points respectively and can increase it above 300%.


With 6 luck, minimum for snipers/minigunners.
Skill 100, luck 6: Random ((10+6) * 100/100, skill) = Random (16, 100) = 58 HP healed on average (Roughly a free stimpak and a half)
Skill 125, luck 6: Random ((10+6)*125/100,skill) = Random (20,125) = 72.5 HP healed on average
Skill 150, luck 6: Random ((10+6)*150/100,skill) = Random (24,150) = 87 HP healed on average
Skill 175, luck 6: Random ((10+6)*175/100,skill) = Random (28,175) = 101.5 HP healed on average (Roughly a free super stimpak)


With 10 luck
Skill 100, luck 10: Random ((10+10) * 100/100, skill) = Random (20, 100) = 60 HP healed on average
Skill 125, luck 10: Random ((10+10)*125/100,skill) = Random (25,125) =  75 HP healed on average

More skill = Shorter cooldown

With about 40 skill you have like an 8 minute cooldown. At about 160 skill, you have about the minimum cooldown, which is 2 minutes, maybe a few seconds less.

Edit: Actually, two minutes isn't the minimum. I can do First Aid with a guy with 201 skill, and the cooldown is about 90 seconds.

If you look around, you'll find some NPCs that'll barter with you even with only 1 CH. Off the top of my head, there's Dr. Jubilee in NCR, the caravans that you come across in the wastes, and almost all the merchant NPCs in Gecko. None in the Hub, as far as I know. However, I was once able to trade for Mentats with the merchant NPC ghoul just before the junkyard in Gecko, so you can get a temporary CH boost if you want by getting yourself those.

Now, I have a question. If I leave a slave to digg (sic) for ore and then log off, will the slave keep digging while I'm offline?

In NCR with 1 CH you can trade with Dusty, Mira, Doc Jubilee, brahmin guy, FLC guy and I think also with Iguana Bob and the lone wanderer/hermit type near Vortis.
In the Hub you can trade with the lady in the bar, FLC guy, iguana guy, brahmin guy and the caravan lady near the general store.
With 1 CH you can only trade with low level traders, not with higher level ones like Sha Enin en Buster.

No, they can't be attacked, but you might still want to set up Mercenaries in case anyone tries to "tent-tag" you. Also, you need more than two people to start a faction base.

Hi again, I have a question about buying a base this time. I found Earl, I think, in Junktown, because I want the cave base (for 30,000). However, when I talk to him, this is the dialog:

"Hey, you must be new here. What about this: You hand out a beer to me and we can talk, eh?"
- The fuck, no. Do I look like a bartender?
- Maybe later. I need to go now.

Whether or not I have a beer in my inventory, or in my hand, doesn't matter. I have no option to give him beer, he's not a barter-able NPC, and directly using the beer on him doesn't work. I've tried several words using Say, to no avail. How do I talk to this guy to buy a base?

There is one other way, and that is to kill Khan Raiders in the actual northern base - not just in random encounters, those don't work. I'm pretty sure it is a bug that killing Khan Raiders in random encounters doesn't raise your Rep.

I almost allways use LK 3 or 4 chars and they are all crafters. In my experience it might influence repair, but they all work fine. As much as I know you don't want to use complex weaponry with small luck: already destroyed one improved flamer and a lot of simple weaponry because of it. That's my experience.

Never tried with that level of skill. It is no fun for me having a char with a skill over 150%. So I guess you have to try... I have failed sometimes repairing small guns with tool and 120% repair skill. Maybe super tool kit might help further. In my experience, since science is used only to check for crafting or getting a profession, for scientific chars it makes no sense to pursue high luck.

Luck doesn't affect repair, and yes, a low luck can cause your weapons to critically fail with worse consequences.

Living anatomy is supposed to apply after everything (DR too), so it's a bug or they are not considered like living creature.

Is the reputation in town (like: - 75) have any influence on my stealing skill when I try to steal from NPC? Like they are more alerted or something like that?

Anyway, what other things may inffluence the chance of stealing? Luck mayby?

Erm, and no, reputation hasn't any impact on steal success chance. Neither luck, afaik. Distance from nearest guard, however, counts.

Are there any restrictions about stealing skill, for example: with stealing skill 100-150 you can steal 1000 caps from a player, with skill 150-200 - 2000-3000 caps and so on...? I mean that with too low skill if I'll try take TOO MUCH I'll have automatic failure... Or is it just about percentage CHANCE of steling, but no matter of what I always can try take all his money and with good luck make a success...?

Well, it's all about real-life luck, really. I don't think there is a limit, if you a try a billion times to steal a million caps from someone maybe you will eventually succeed. But the less you try to steal at once, the more you have chance to succeed. You will have to learn alone what is the max amount that maintains a high success rate, or maybe one of our devoted stealers can tell you here :)

it's 10 for some users, adn others (like me) have it at 3minutes, as long as it takes to change character without changing the game drive.
C: drive has a separate login timer from D: drive, tested this extensively last season.

And, the rule is that you wait 10 minutes between accounts, but what is most important is that you at least don't fast-relog to bypass the 3-minute wait. But since it isn't in the actual game rules thread, I am confused about it too.

I remember that one of my first chars had quite high Outdorsman skill, and first during character development I started getting messages that I met "wastelander", then when I raised the skill a little more I started getting messages with the exact nickname of a player in encounter.

Does anyone knows on what level of Outdoorsman it starts? Like 120, 140...? ;)  

I'm asking cause I have an idea of makeing a PvP char, hunting others on main map :D You know... camping is boring :P and in most unguarded cities you need to have a group to surwive, and I like to hunt alone sometimes...

Btw. I KNOW that it depends from Outdoorsman skill of a other player too (I mean the chance to "find him" on map), but most players have this skill about 100 points or even less, so the question is how much do I need to have this advantage over them.

I think you have the wrong assumption. I'll try to explain. When you have the option to encounter a person in an encounter, it will come as "Scorpions and wastelander" if you don't have Awareness perk. It will come up as "Scorpions and [Player name] if you do have Awareness.

You can have the option to encounter other players with 40 Outdoorsman and with 200 Outdoorsman, it is just you have more chance of finding optional encounters with higher Outdoorsman.

Also, if you are in congested areas like around NCR, you will get a lot more of these encounters than in an isolated place like around the Glow.

Edit - Okay I have a question:

In the case of the caravan encounters people use as traps, is it possible to enter the encounter by just encountering them by going over the world-map tile or do I have to intentionally go into the dot?

I'm no expert on power builds, but some comments here:
- the best small guns require a strength of 5
- strength 5 with small frame gives you a carry weight of 45, not to mention an extra character point
- finesse seems to be rather useless as it reduces damage
- make a choice between becoming a burster or a sniper before you create your character as it makes a difference in where you put your character points
- decide whether or not you want to be a crafter as it makes a difference in which skills you want to tag besides small guns

If you want to be a crafter, you can put points in science and repair and tag 1 or both.
If not, you could choose 'Good Natured' (no matter what, it's a good trait) as 1 of your traits and tag FA, perhaps together with either doctor or outdoorsman.

Not according to some people who looked into it more deeper and used the formulas to calculate the chances.

I would appreciate if you would pass me some suggestions on this, I'm not planning to make it a powerbuild, already got a "spotter" sniper char, a "crippler" sniper char, and a crafter char, throgh combat I've amassed a fortune in terms of stimpacks (up at about 800 now), nd of course, all I've dealt with is extremes inFOnline so far, so a different, not-so-extreme build would actually add a bit of RP feelig into my gametime.

Traits: One Handler, Fast Shot
Skills: Small Guns, FA and for the RP Outdoors

Perks to choose from:
Awareness, Toughness, BRD, Better Criticals, More Criticals (would stick to 1 level), Lifegiver at level 12, BRoF, Action Boy

I would at least take 1 level of toughness as hp are useless when you can't take a hit.
BRD is good with burst weapons.
Lifegiver at level 12 is always nice.
You have to decide which you really want based upon what kind of RP you're planning.

I was thinking more of good natured since I'll be able to take a bonus of 70-80 skillpoint boost at the start, since I'm not really looking for a burster, i'm more thinking of kinda a singleshotter, close range, eyepopper style gunslinger (25-30 hex is close range).

yeah, it is when you multiclick the enemy, the ammount of attacks is correspondent up to the number of times you click in RT, in other words, you cue your commands there, and as long as you don't lose sight of the enemy it will be uninterrupted.

How do you do that?

.223 has range of 30, so 6 PE should do.
If you want to use a .223 pistol, you need 5 ST, move the PE point in ST for this.
5 ST and small frame trait gives you a carry weight of 45.
You could put the extra point in IN for extra skill points, in CH to be able to pick up an extra follower or in PE for a better view.

14mm pistol requires 4 ST and has a range of 24, 5 PE could do.
ST stays at 4, so no small frames trait.
You have 1 point to spend.

Good Natured is always a good trait.

This will result in a character starting with less than 50% in small guns, which means you can do the quest (http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Talk_to_the_guard_to_get_a_bonus_to_the_Small_Guns_skill) to get the 15% bonus.

Wiki says < 50%, so max. 49%.
I'm pretty sure it said 45% not long ago.

I never heared about AP requirements for tent building and can't find anything about that in the wiki.
No matter what, AG 6 is a minimum requirement for any character.

Go to Necropolis with caps and call a GM.
They will temporarily put the ghoul back so you can talk to it and buy the bunker.

i tried it with CH1. fail. i don´t know wheter that perk "magnetic personality" will change that fact. i guess not.

Well, to be a slaver, you don't need any charisma, but it will be useless to become a slaver if you can't own any slave, so...
And to become a raider, I think you need to be able to talk to NPCs, to obtain quests, so you need at least 3 Charisma.

just a question, what is the formula for healing crippled limbs, stuck near the den with a crippled leg... now there for about an hour, bloody failed doc attempts...

If I have CH 3, will upping my barter skill (to around 100%) help in terms of buy/sell price?

Are Energy Weapons the most powerful (craftable) items?
Would there be any advantage to choosing BG over EW?

Any SPECIAL suggestions for a EW crafter?

Is LK 6 essential for someone who wants to manage well in PVP?

luck 6 is the basis for minigunners in PvP, 10 luck is a must for any sort of sniper because they go for armour bypass criticals, especially laser rifle snipers.

1 question about chem reliant - we have 2 means: 1. Addict with this trait finish faster. 2. 'flashback' from drugs finish faster(like from jet is -4AP,-2strenght etc)

And how do I raise my rep the Mordino Family without doing any quests?  Like killing something or some people over n over?

there si of course the slavers near the den, for every slaver you've killed yu get +1 reputation with all factions, but only up to 0 (neutral)

10% (luck10) + 10% (finesse) + 15%(more criticals) + %60 (aim shoot in head) = 95% to do a critical
so guys does the game have a critical % limit??

I am aware you need a hatchet, or the other one-use axe. I have made 12 of these.

But I have not found a tree that shows the 'hand' icon. The ones around town have leaves and look alive, but do not work. I have zoned into about 20 different wasteland areas and every tree looks dead and you do not get the 'hand' icon.  I have tried 8 different square areas around NCR.

Is the problem just the wasteland location?

I have yet to earn enough caps for a tent, so I don't really want to be trekking miles across the wasteland, just for a few pieces of wood.
