What is a good build for a noob?
« on: August 21, 2011, 09:18:35 pm »

just got the game working and was wondering how i should make my character.  i don't wanna spend hours upon hours on something that's gonna blow.  would a Fallout 2 build be good in Fonline, or are there a lot of differenced?  i'd like to tag guns but other than that i'm not sure what to do.

searched through some threads and found this build:

S 3
P 6
E 10
C 1
I 6
A 9
L 6

Small Frame
One Hander

Small Guns 220
First Aid 130
Doctor 91

3 Toughness
6 Bonus Ranged Damage
9 Bonus Ranged Damage
12 Lifegiver
15 Bonus Rate of Fire
18 Action Boy
21 Action Boy

how does it look?  any improvements?  would this build be ok for a first time player? or should i first make a character that focuses on crafting etc and then mule items over to a fighter?

My first build was a melee, and I didn't regret it. Since with unarmed, you don't need any weapons, and a even knifes are easy to craft, a death doesn't take too much, with doctor you can get back to killing right after death, and with repair, you can make and maintain your own armor. No need to rely on shops - you can get used to well how it is to go with 1 CHA. Well, you won't be a pvp badass on 21, but at the end, you have a beast of mines if you want to hammer resources for your next chars - what you will make with more wisdom than the first.

My other suggestion would be a big gunner - a flamethrower and ammo is easy to craft (if you know how to get the materials, if not it's a good practie to figure out) and since the profession only has 2 levels now, you can take armorer 2 and make metal armors - a CA might look tempting, but it's too cost heavy to lose against critters. With that equipment (that you can manufacture) you'll run trough the first 10-15 levels in no time.

A noob.

PER doesn't matter with melee/unarmed builds right?

Unarmed
Repair
Doctor

not sure about traits or perks

Unarmed is so useless that i dont need to be specialized because u van kill only geckos and brahmins with it. I used unarmed on some of my crafters to level them up for free.

Have to disagree, my stabber kills centaurs and I ghoul just fine with my new hth-crippler on lv10.

About exact stats, check this thread: http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=1876.msg15094#msg15094 - it presents two totally worthy pve-tank builds.

I suggest something like
5 6 6 3 6 8 6
Good Natured
SG crafter-burster/shoter
It can trade, shoot, take some damage (if toughness is taken)
perk set mb (for example)
awerness, toughness x2, Lifegiver, BRoF, BRDx2/ Brd+Action Boy

(never played small gun builds in FO)

Try this one:

or this one:

Pure combat chars are pain in the arse for beginners - 1 CH, low carry weight, problems with getting supplies.

Unarmed who can kill only Geckos and Brahmins is kind sad :P
I'm able to beat 2 tough deathclaws (Small+Large) alone with bluesuit and without unarmed weapons.

And btw is there anyway to get messbox.txt looking better than by editing it by yourself?

so if i went unarmed would this be good?:

An unarmed build is an excellent choice for a newbie,if well done. You are tough, you have nothing to lose, and ALL the loot is stashed in your tent, without the need to waste bullets or guns:Easy to became rich and suppoert your future chaaracters...just don t pick 1pe,is a pain to play-6pe is best for an unarmed guy.Needs for an unreplaceble perk. ;)

unarmed build is good only for suffering.
for newbie SG burster is optimal.

Have to agree with Doctor Eex here, SGburster/crafter is probably the easiest to start off with considering you can make the shit you use and also craft just to make some money. http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Main_Page  The wiki is very helpful (although parts of it are outdated)

Unarmed, Melee and BG builds are fastest way to get lvl 21.
With unarmed you don't need any weapons and bluesuit is enough to beat Mutated Molerats (300exp per kill) and later on Centaurs.
Melee builds use of course ripper and supersledge for killing enemies. Good kill Centaurs for fast exp.
BG use Flamer for leveling and start from normal Molerats and then to Mutated Molerats and finally Centaurs.
