Tent Upgrades
« on: June 06, 2011, 03:42:21 pm »

Never thought that tents should have workbenches? Write here what you think about this.
I thought that we could make "tent upgrades" or so, by actually making workbenches craftable with, let's say, 15 units of Wood, 10 of Junk, 10 of Metal Parts, and a Tool or Super Tool Kit.
Along this many other upgrades: a water purifier, a Nuka Cola fridge, a shooting range, and so...

O'rly?
Ya rly.

Official answer you would get is probably "engine does not support dynamic maps", however you can put a container spawned by drunken GM on a map and use it. Been there, abused that.

Looked at your ideas... good ones. But after all this is just making a "new" map, sobstituiting a tent with an "upgraded" version. They only need to add a new code to check if you are in your tent, otherwise it's just enough to change the result and mats.
I think that the tent code is something like this:
CheckLocation
-if RandomEmpty, go
-if NotRandomEmpty, give error message and stop
Go
-Create new zone only accesible by "TentMakerName"
CheckZoneTipe
-if Ruin, link new zone to "TentRuin"
Ecc ecc ecc.
It would be enought to change first line (ie instead of RandomEmpty, Tent) and last (instead of ruin, TentLVL1 [aka workbench], TentLVL2 [aka workbench+water purifier) ecc ecc ecc.

But since i'm not a modder, and i dont know how tent code is, i suppose devs will just eliminate this thread.

PLEASE DEVS DONT! I LIKE YOU AND YOUR WORK!

There is already a tent with a workbench like thing planned.

You won't be crafting miniguns there, but you will be able to craft basic things.

That's what i meaned, atleast being able to craft an Hatched and a Radio without going to Junktown (my tent is near Junktown, 'cause i can get almost every thing there, and 'cause they dont care i'm a slaver, not like NCR)

Instead of outdoorsman shouldnt be a more suitable thing reparation? or maybe science, cause it's about building the bench and the tool.

What you think about buying boxes for stuff? I mean, would be nice to storage stuff in few boxes, not to spread everything around tent.

w8, there will be more crafting places?(like in F:NV)
small workbench(all maps)
Workbenches(some unguarded towns and faction bases)
Umaga- Workbenches(where you will need blueprints to do and they are in quest availeble places
Ammo-terminal
Medical terminal
...

also about the sugestion, what will happen to the items on the floor and containters?  i mean that resseting a map to add something will erase everything on it
