Merc prices
« on: February 02, 2011, 04:37:40 am »

Are too damn high!!! 37k for EW merc? 30k for BG human merc that will get himself killed in 5 min? 83k for a strong mutant!?!?!?

Luckily I have a large bank account generating lots of intrest, but I feel very bad for any new player trying to use mercs. How is someone new to the game or someone that doesn't have the time to play this all day expected to get mercs, so they can play with the big boys too?

This session started at begin of September. So everybody has tons of caps and play around with mercs. I think prices is ok.
Regarding new players - muties and ew mercs are not for them anyway. They may join gang that can provide with EVERYTHING.

Yup maybe join a gang, hope they don't just take whatever you already have and leave you hanging.  Or they're nice and do 'everything' for you taking any type of experience of gameplay pretty much out of it.  The prices are honestly a bit high, because people who actually want to build up in game, aren't going to be as powerful as existing players.  Why should they be punished any more than new players already are?

Actually earning caps are much more easier than from begin of the session.
You can level up without being overcrowded, you can farm (doubt rich guys farm anymore), you can sell valuable stuff to players with good profit - 20k for BA!

So, it is Fallout. Prepare for future!

I don't know if there's such kind of gangs. Our gang don't take anything from our newcomers.
We give them descent builds, help to level up and provide gear, transport etc.

Playing mercs require much investment anyway. 85k*5 = 550k. Then you need to level up them, provide weapons, repairs, ammo. You need transport (hummer or highwayman)
And you can lose it at 1 TB encounter in a moment.

If you're poor, you can hire 5 niggas with hammers and farm geckos, brahmins or whatever  :)

War destroys economics. Always. As long as major factions will use mercenaries for their advantage, the prices will remain high.

If you really want to use your own personal hit squad using BGs and EWs. catch some combat slaves from the moonshiners, they're not half as good, but they're free if you can kill the other guys in their group.

And it is a VERY GOOD that price depends on REAL PLAYERS MARKET DEMAND.
It kinda add more life to economics.

vendors only cary 13k on average untill someone cleans them out.... You realize how long it would take for a player to gather the kinds of funds needed for this? WEEKS of non stop grinding and saving are the only way, aside from massive bank accounts generating intrest. I guess casual players just can't use mercs, and that is the answer.

For the moment, its the economy that destroy all wars. The problem is being able to make caps by interest, having money in bank is already a big advantage, as it is safe, should you be rewarded for having safe money in your bank? That is the true reason why mercs are so costly right now, as some players earn hundreds of thousands (if not millions for big gangs) of caps a day in interest. For them, its no problem to loose there mercs in 5 minutes, they just go buy some more.

Well change the price of mercs from caps to a different currency, problem solved :)

Yes the big gangs have a shitload of caps, its the nature of the beast.  If they are rich and decide to abuse the bank system then thats their thing.  Even without interest they would still be filthy rich.

Dare I say this bank interest blame is borderline trolling.

Without bank interest, average joes would be screwed every which way.  Right now even casual players can afford mercs if they don't mind camping boneyard and selling BBs.  Can casual players ever compete with big guildsi in regards to mercs?   No of course not.  But then again big guilds always achieve more than loners.

Are you insane!? he's right!! generating 800k caps/day is insane and is the reason the prices are so high!!

Assume you allready have 500k worth of gear to sell lieing around... It will take you weeks just to find enough caps on vendors to pay for 1 mutant army. There is only one other way to afford them, and thats intrest.

Just grind a bunch at the start of a wipe, grind for the first 2 months and save 2 mil. Then stop playing for a month or so and come back, WOW! You have 12 mil and are now generating 360k/game day.

There needs to be a boundary for interest.

Like, say 500k-1 mil, then interest stops.

Alts alts alts... but hey, works with crafting.  And we won't re-deconstruct loner/beginner lives.
