OMG this argument was used for overall picture of killing noobs for fun, not fot looting nuka cola.
I'm still right though, and you used Nuka-Cola as an example so I told you what was wrong with your example. A lot of people player-kill for sportsmanship, paranoia and many other things. You can't insult them for it by calling them dumb. If they are given the right to kill people, why not use it? Next thing you know people will ask for areas safe from pvp.

Anyway... about tutorial. Fallout 2 had Temple of Trails and whole Arroyo quests. If something like this could be implemented (with option to skip of course) it'll be great for newbies.
Fallout 2 was a single-player game, there is no guarantee a temple of trials would work in FOnline. People would still door block doors and piss people off unless they made it a different place for every new character - which would require hundreds of extra maps/map numbers - which would probably overload the server with that many maps being generated. And if they did that it would take out the feel of it being an online game and not really prepare you for any of the experience past it. Maybe they can stop player-killing in an area like this, but there are so many other ways to grief people.

Wasteland is harsh, and if you need a tutorial to start you will never get anywhere in the real game. This idea is hopeless, try Fallout 2 on hard, there's your tutorial for FOnline (without the online, of course). The thing that makes FOnline different from other MMORPGs is that it's brutal and ruthless, some people appreciate that unique aspect and some cry for starter towns and free noob weapons.

The difficulty of FOnline is very good feature - I like it because it so different from other MMOs and it give Fallout feeling. But from the other side - i will be nowhere without help from my friends - game is really hard for new player without someone to guide them. And you cannot blame them for not reading forum/manual. If new player start in NCR it's quite good - there are many players. But if he starts in one of northern cities? Bullet in head is common :) From the other hand starting in Boneyard is quite boring - no one in vincinity, no quests, no guides.

And of course the problems like this will be more frequent : http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?board=20.0

I dont want to be pessimistic ut with attitude like today there will be less and less new players. And then we will be playing in the same group all the time

That's the point, it is an online game so you have to work with others. This game isn't being made to play alone. Make friends with the FOnline community, join a gang, encourage your friends to play, etc. It isn't as hard when you have the initiative to do that.

That's because this game is Beta, there is a lot more to be added before the final release.

I am strongly against this starter town idea.

And the first rule of Wasteland? Don't trust anyone. Little paradox ;) But I got your point. However I still think that new players should have little easier start.

I know it's beta version and I hope the devs will make many upgrades to project. Yeah and I know they don't have much time right know because they're fighting with bugs etc.

That's more of a metaphor than a serious "rule". If nobody trusted anyone in the whole Wasteland - there would be no gangs, groups, anything.

I don't support the magical bluesuit isle, but I think one location should be given all the quests to explain any potentially baffling game elements. And that's where all new characters spawn. I'd suggest Klamath or Junktown, if not both.

Doing all of them should get you to level 3, have you set up with a tent, and acquainted with the basics of crafting.

Related to that, though, can we remove the skill checks on harvesting fruit/picking up flint/getting junk/picking broc flower/xander root?

Fuck it, give me whatever quest writing tool there is and I'll write them. I can't script, but I could probably make a dialogue tree.

Isn't it ironic, that in an MMO game, with at least hundred of players playing at any given time, people are still looking forward to have quests from scripted, fixed, uninteractive NPCs?

Noob island? THIS... IS... FALLOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Kicks OP in sewer*

But if we doin serious talk, the hardcoreness of FOnline is the main thing that really (yeah i admit it) addicts me to it. Thus i recently did a fun alt and with proper knowledge (this means using your brains and not fucking around with broken hands) its really easy to start the game. With completly no help from others or my main, no item support, no xp boosting, no NOTHING i got that char to lvl 6 in a matter of pair of hours. Also got nice item base right there.

O_o; WTF?

I can understand having a tutorial quest system, even for old-school players. To see how it work in practice, how it is implemented. Fine. But willingly accepting players who are too lazy to read the manual?

This is a free game. There is no need to "hunt" for new players. Fans will invite their friends, word will spread. It isn't an easy game, and I guess, never meant to be such.

Maybe a link in the new launcher.exe to the manual and forum would help a little.

If there is a need for such courtesy, devs could, maybe, implement a reduced, offline version of the game (1 town, micro-server), where players would use their newly registered character, without actually any achievements passed to the FOnline server.

Anyway, such an offline version is pointless now, as the game changes too often for the devs to keep a "tutorial" updated.

Meant for pirates, yet I'm *sure* there aren't many ;) - did you all forgot, that every player is obligated to have a (legit) copy of Fallout2 to play FOnline? Good for a tutorial imo.

The temple of trials was retarded, it screws you over big time if you made a char that has no melee/hth skill. Fing ants.

I have never had any problem with completing ToT with any char. Maybe you just can't play, Roachor? Nah, I'm sure you can play. It's rather that you just tend to dramatize, and the fact that it takes you 5 rounds to kill an ant instead of just one hit, you like to describe as "HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS" or "GETTING SCREWED BIG TIME".

When all your combat skills are useless and you only have 30 hp getting past all the ants AND the fight at the end can be tough.

You don't have to fight at the end. In fact, you don't have to fight at all in there.
