Why not create an island aprox. 9 squares big for newbies out in the Pacific. Have all Encounters turned Way down to easy mode with no loot, and just a few small locations available to visit. If you die on Nooby Island, you merely get knocked out and Care Taker NPC will spawn to fight off your attackers, and revive you but loot everything except what you are wearing and armed with. Beginner quests will show players how to navigate the game.

Background Info for Nooby Island:
Nooby island is the location of the orphanage where you were deposited by a do-gooder. Resources on the island are limited, so you after proving yourself valuable to the Orphanage they agree to let you go on a trade voyage with them to San Francisco via Boat. Alternately you can craft a raft with some wood and rope. Using a handmade raft is always a bad idea, you will randomly wash ashore with no possessions

The boat that takes you to the mainland becomes shipwrecked, and you wash up on the beach with no possessions and no way to get back.

Beginnner Quests on Nooby Island include:
Picking up Brahmin Poo
Feeding the Brahmin
Killing all the molerats in the garden
Crafting various items (depending on your skills)
Learning to Sneak
Learning to Steal
Learning to Lockpick

Only if suicide bombers can reach the island to teach them the true nature of the wastes.

Another "starter town"? We have Hub/NCR already, and both cities are good place for all begginers. Keeping them under glass will only make them crying more than now, when wasteland kick them in ass - and it will happen, sooner or later.

Faster you see real face of wasteland, better for you.

Well MMO without New Player protection or similiar system is harder to get for new players. New players = more action in game = more fun.

in b4: great flame from hark00rz playerzzz and comparisions to Sims/WoW etc.

And soon population will change to 50-100 (where 30% will be crafting/gathering in bases) and Wasteland will be empty. I know this is bad scenario ;)

However these normal players after some time will become 1337 too (remember everyone started as a noob ;p) and some kind of protection system (or maybe tutorial system) will encourage them to staying.

And for trolls... there is always 5mm for them

Let's say a tutorial, an interactive manual - Ok. But completly separated from the rest of game IMO.

no new player protection = filter for dumbasses = healthier player base = more fun

If the current player base is the "elite" than I don't see a future for this game.

OMG this argument was used for overall picture of killing noobs for fun, not fot looting nuka cola.

Anyway... about tutorial. Fallout 2 had Temple of Trails and whole Arroyo quests. If something like this could be implemented (with option to skip of course) it'll be great for newbies.
