Title: Status 17/04/2010
Post by: Lexx on April 17, 2010, 10:38:18 am
A small status update: We fixed some memory leaks and tested the server already a few hours. As the ones who tried to play might have noticed, the server is more stable now. Still, we continue with fixing and correcting various elements.

Beside this, the server port is set back to 2238.

It is how it supposed to be. Befor it was disabled, due to lag invetigation.

well, another crash, and another HUGE rollback (about 20-30 minutes)
BESIDES, i and my friend were in Junktown, but after rollback, I HAVE stuff FROM BASE, but i am in junktown, while my friend in base
so.... i guess you have something to think about devs

Huge rollback ? Are you kidding ? It was ten minutes at most.

Post by: Pandemon on April 17, 2010, 12:01:42 pm
Anyway, it rolled back more than before update (before was about 1-2 minute rollback, now it was 10-15).
I know its still less than 2 hours rollback like 2 days ago but indeed its annoying.

It seems that the cows in junktown have a very small walkaround area.. just going back and forth.. this is just based on where you see the crap, but still, if someone else sees the same thing..

Lag is still there, as Ghosthack said it's another issue, but it's anyway a pleasure to be able to play :)

In real combat mode reloading weapon cost is one ap higher than in turn based...

Really? I actually found it to be better.  ;)  Maybe it's because there's more people playing due to stability? More players = more bandwidth used = higher average ping across the player base.

I mean, less people logging off because of crash/rollbacks, more people playing for extended amounts of time because they aren't frustrated? Just now the server was up for almost 5 & 1/2 hours, then taken down on purpose (not crashed). And right before this there were 400+ players online. I've only been playing a few weeks, maybe I've been missing peak times I don't know but prior to this most I've seen has been in the 290 range on weekends...  :-\

Post by: Gruik on April 18, 2010, 01:56:10 am
Yes, it was like this before, but without FOV at all. Devs are testing some improvements, and the fact of being able to see trough walls is part of it.
Title: Re: Status 17/04/2010
Post by: Atom on April 18, 2010, 02:04:57 am
The server currently runs in a heavy debug mode and is restarted several times a day with new executables (for additional debugging info and with fixes for found problems). Expect the unexpected. Right now the only priority is optimization and searching for bottlenecks. Good news is that there was much progress done in the last two days.

94.23.237.127 port 2238  <-- is this not correct?

edit:  tried port 4040, still nothing.

According to this (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=9.0), The Updater Port and IP should be:

IP: 94.23.237.127
Port: 4040

I'm not at my home PC so that I can check it it out in the game files though.

The port is back to 2238. Check the first page of this topic.
However the game and updater is running just fine on my PC.
I double checked the Smakula's address and port and it's same as mine. I updated and played successfully today, so there might be some other problem.

He asked for the updater's port, not the actual game server port. :P

However, maybe Firewall issues Smakula? Because as you see people don't have problems using the same IP and Port Address.  :-\

Uptime is over 14 hours now, server is still leaking but at a much slower pace, estimates are it has about 37 more hours until it runs out of memory. It's not satisfying yet, but much better than previous expected lifetime, just over 2 hours.
Title: Re: Status 17/04/2010

So it is still not clear, is the field of view a bug? as in being able to see through everything.

Title: 2238=TLA?
Post by: West on April 20, 2010, 05:01:08 pm
So i can see, that sneak became like old TLA version (if you have 260+ sneak, people can see you only with  3 gecks)
And you can see people through walls
i dont like it, BUT lags are dissapear (not so much lags now, almost gone)
so, lags were due to this 2238 features? (like not seeing through walls and etc..)

Sneak is temporary, the same as rengen-eyes.
When everything with server will be ok, they will make FoV normal again.

It would be too much to explain in details, but lag problem is still there and fov is just something that would currently made it much worse. Once enough of the basic performance problems are gone (causing the lag to drop to more acceptable level), fov will be enabled again. By "lag" is meant application response time, and not the response time of the physical machine. Lag will never go below that response time, of course.

[edit] as of now, the fov is enabled again and we'll see if it can stay that way.

There's something strange about sneak, please check it out, creeps are almost uneffected by sneak (while players are) although ofc in a different way than before, the penalties are on for sure.

Lag, lag, LAAAG.

Everybody does the lag dance! Jerk forward, jerk again, MOONWALK SLIDE, WHOO-HOO! *bang!*

Fleeing is impossible, as is the fight, because PKs have "lag bonus sequence" now.
I'm done with the game for now.

Same here, I can say even perfect gameplay, no lag at all. May be delay sometimes for 200-300 milliseconds, but no more.
