We will be soon setting up some roleplay in a sealed Vault - as soon as the maps are done and we have enough people. Vaults are all the same, and among the sealed vaults, you could be aware of the Vault 13, for example. So basically, it will be a roleplay project in a working Vault, that is still closed, with no contact with the outside. All pertinent ideas are welcome, about what to put in the Vault or how to organize it.

So, a vault experiment? THAT sounds really interesting. Just a matter of time some inhabitants go crazy and slaughter the whole vault.

You have nothing to decide right now, if you want to be in, just create a character when the Vault will be ready. Further informations will be written, but this topic is above all meant to make the roleplayers aware of the project and to see if someone has got some interesting suggestions about it (I'm still waiting for it =D).

Sounds great, I want in. My only question is since no one can leave will we all be lvl 1 forever?
Probably, or not, in fact it's not really important.

Looking back at Hub project, we figured what was the problem of low popularity among players, and Izual decided to start new project, wich will leave players more space and opportunities for they role play.
Right now project gathering people and ideas together, and somethign else.
I think it will be nice to hear some ideas from you guys.

Also add some more depth + a scenario, not just seducing. Make it some kind of LARP, just not so  L lol ;3

One random vault dweller will be a maniac. His aim is to kill every other dweller. Aim of others is to find out who is this maniac! Maniac will be the same level like others (1?), but he has a weapon! He must hide it from others and show it only to someone, when he gotta use it! There's also be LIMITED number of radios, computers/terminals for blocking/opening doors in special rooms. Also some NPCs who will provide any quests fot getting XP/items but also it'll force players to be alone, or complete quests all together. The Maniac has access to all terminals and computers, he can use cameras there to see locations and people, and when someone is alone, he can come there, say "hello.." and ask why he is alone, and then blow his head with his gun.

I like it, but without any kind of structured activity for each player or overarching theme it will probably just fall apart pretty quickly.

A few token 'job' scripts and assigned activities here and there will work wonders for giving the place an 'alive' feel. Alerts for when the vault mechanic needs to go do some generator maintenance, some super exciting terminal science, hell, even standing guard. These kind of things work best when every player has responsibilities, I imagine.

One random vault dweller will be a maniac. His aim is to kill every other dweller. Aim of others is to find out who is this maniac! Maniac will be the same level like others (1?), but he has a weapon! He must hide it from others and show it only to someone, when he gotta use it! ha, if that is implemented it will most likely be a porno horror vault where the female is the maniac and likes to cut her potential male "friends" up before intercourse, but personally i wouldn't even be interested if i was the only male in a vault filled with hot women. Some freedom would be sweet, or some frequent raider attacks, if there would be 2 rival gangs in the vault i might be interested, would give switchblades some use, and if you kill anyone, absolutely anyone you'll be hated and become an outcast from the vault, or you could be pt in prison, and maybe have a makeshift police force with nightsticks and 10mm pistols, all of your stuff is unlootable, and the gangers could wear leather jackets, but only attack each others gangs, if they attack a bluesuit they get kicked from the vault.

Keep in mind the point of the vaults was to run social experiments. Ie one vault that got left open to see what would happen with the radiation leaking in, one vault that had crappy water chips to see what they would do when there only good one broke, etc.

So the main thing would be to first come up with the social experiment that Vault Tec would have been  enacting on this particular vault. So just thinking of some ideas; they hid a robot in a locked room that only the overseer could access and at a certain point in time the overseer is suppose to open the room to the robot and let it run it's commands (which would be a secret for the DM's to decide). Or another scenario could be that the vault was poisoned with some genetic mutagen that only killed people over the age of 18 so the only people in the vault left are children and they have to figure out how to survive. Another possible scenario could be that the vault is locked and permanently sealed so that there is no escape at all by normal means, but the module to recycle oxygen is going to go bad and the vault dwellers have to figure out a way to escape the vault before the oxygen runs out and they all die.

These are social experiments that I think might be interesting for an RP type event.

Well if the target is Vault 13 then it is easy. You have two factions in the vault after the Lone Wandere left. The group lead by the overseer that want to keep everyone there and the group that wants to leave the vault and settle in the wastelands. Then the RP is all around the struggle there and trying to see who will win whether they will stay sealed in the vault or whether they leave to settle.

I agree though it would probably be cool if you created a new vault and setup a totally new scenario.

The problem is - that "normal" RP doesn't let the people stay there. If you only stay around the whole day and chat nothing will happen and players lose interest. There need to be little "events" even when they are small, like a computer got destroyed and the inhabitants must repair etc. Or give the players a little daily job, just a tiny one asided from the chatting. Otherwise it will be the same like what happened in the hub - no progress - the players lose interest.

Also you need to have very much stronger personalities than in the hub f.e. Remember that everyone in the vault has the same history, they know each other since they were born. So one has to be the shy guy, others the macho, etc etc. Everyone needs a task for the special person so that it's not becoming boring.

I think this would be good because, at this point the overseer is starting to loss power over the vault as population splinters and this new group wants to leave. I think maybe he makes it into more of a democracy to show this splinter group that they are wrong since so many people want to stay (but they are people either under the influence of the overseer or are scared to leave. So this splinter group has to try and convince the others to leave, since they can't make it on their own and they need to follow the "democracy" that has been setup.

So the roleplay would all revolve around the splinter group trying to convince the others to leave and the others trying to convince them to stay. The struggle behind this disenfranchised splinter group and maybe some of them go on strike which would cause huge issues inside a closed society like that. Also, the other side of the coin, the fear of braving the wasteland and trying to start a new leaving the safety of the vault.

I agree, I think the point is that, using my scenario for example, you need to have a GM who is maybe the overseer, and a GM who is maybe the leader of the splinter group and they have to kind of give out the tasks and events that occur, directing the story that evolves. This sounds like it is suppose to be RP not just a safe place to chat. If it is RP then I would assume there would be events and an ongoing story that is changed and played out through the players actions.

This idea require work from scripters, and I bet they have more important things to work on at the moment. In my opinion, we should concentrate on ideas that can be set up by players, and eventually mapper - e.g. if you got a scenario/background idea and you need something special in the map to make it work.

If I like the RP exp offer,
I really dont see any soluce to anim a fully sealed vault.

By RP I mean behavior, not only litterature.
And behavior become from situations/need... the best situation is the danger, and the best need stayin alive.

Without fear of death, I dont see how interest players in RP.
Only "teamwork" as I have read before cannot be enough in my mind.

That's said I continue searching concept for this project.

Whoa, a vault RP? Now things are getting interesting! Being it Vault 13, there are a few things we should bear in mind:

-It's 2238, way after the Dweller left, and the overseer, according to vault dwellers interrogated in the Enclave Rig, might be dead or missing due to a mob that judged him guilty for expelling the Vault Dweller. I'm not sure if we should take Fallout 2's cannon as a scenario, but instead of that supercomputer occupying the overseer's room, as it was in Fallout 2, perhaps someone could be the overseer, sitting down in that room all day and dispatching orders. Overseer skin walks, right? By the way, let's forget about all that talking deathclaw crap!

-The song remains the same: we need a central plot, and it could be as well the old question: if we have a new overseer, why can't we leave yet? Of course, part could be wanting to leave, part could be wanting to stay, and why not, let's innovate with other sorts of alignment: Vault Dweller radical worshipers, nationalists, megalomaniacs, pacifists, environmentalists preventing human interference, who knows?

-Everyone will need a role: a Vault is a small community, thus to earn their rations and water everyone needs to have a job. There'll be need for security guards, doctors, nurses, computer technicians, librarians (for the computer data), mechanics, storage keepers, scientists (all sorts of science), perhaps entertainers, perhaps a chaplain, and whatever else you guys can come up with. For the roles in a rather enclosed society, we might as well look upon the example of the Brotherhood and its Knights, Scribes and Paladins. It's too simple, but we can develop those classes further specifying more job roles.

-There'll be couples for most people in vaults form families, it's basic survival.  This is where lies a big behavioral problem, aforementioned above, so players will have to be mature to rp ADEQUATELY these situations. And maybe the vaults could have kids (only they wouldn't wear jumpsuits I'm afraid).Each room would go to a family, they would work on wherever floor they do, then return to the second to sleep. Assuming a Vault's 2nd level has 8 rooms, we'd have maximum capacity at ~16. That without taking into account that not many women will play.

-Speaking of jobs, crafting would have, the way I see it, less importance within the Vault's walls. Most raw materials are outside the vault, and inside the vault there are processors of all sorts of equipment and food, so the most important jobs wouldn't be those who create, but those who maintain the machinery that creates. Again, pre-war society was very automated.

 I think that life in vault must be under constant pressure.

 Pressure from threat from inside:

 - old technics, broken power generator (only half of levels of vault is electrized  at one time and power must be switched to do neccesary things),
 - lack of resources, which must be taken from cave in front of vault where is radiation, rats, maybe something more powerful)
 - 2 big opinions about Vault future: stay in and try to repair all things X maximalize effort to get out soon
    - players should choose their leaders themselfs.. i mean hidden leaders (leader of we need go out faction). leader of hidden police will be named by overseer
 - i like the ideas of mini roleplay in this big one.. murders, traitors, ...
 - respawn after death should be in one special room in vault.. that room can be in closed for some time because of lack of energy (switching power)
 - all experienced players are death.. so we need to level up from level 1.. and we need highest levels with highest skills to repair something, use science on computers to switch power,...
 - communication with outside should be broken and it will be one of the biggest chalenges to repair it (but communication from vault can be deadly for vault)
 - there should be no weapons and armors at start.. we will need everything to craft.. resources will be valuable, so there must be democratic vote or overseer order to produce something (medicals, weapons, ....) this can be good backround for some revolts
 
 Threat from outside:

- constantinously attacking rats and molerats thru old ventilation...
- rat attacks in some levels
- maybe one deathclaws attack with one smart deathclaw surrender (what do with him? kill/inprisonment/release/asimilation)
- maybe little trip outside, only few yards near main gate to get some resources from cave
- at some moment, there will be need for special equip and some players should go out and find that stuff in wasteland (water chip  :)) ). so it will be nice quest(s)

Adding more floors in future is no problem. It is already planned to add some additional levels (but not right on start). As seen on various vault images, the vaults have more than just 3 levels anyway.

That takes care of housing, then :D Just like an underground condo.

vault-tec didn't really care about survival, just look at all those vaults. They just wanted to know how long will it take for dwellers to kill each other, go insane or run away. So couples are not a necessity, yet there is a serious space limit problem. Is there a way to create 3 lvl 2s? ;3 you know, we use teleports anyway, so just use second floor from different vault that are already in game.
Vault-Tec is long gone, and now the vault dwellers are in charge of vaults. Vault 13 was a control group so it needed to survive. It's not a serious, obligatory thing, but there might be one or two couples to reinforce realism.

There shouldn't be a currency imho, each and every person had daily rations and water, and their jobs were necessary for Vault survival so they worked anyway. A currency wouldn't be necessary, just like in a small commune. Vault 13 in Fallout had no currency.

hmmmm lets seee, vault role play, we need civiland police, food prepares, doctors, nurses to sleep with the doctors, angry relative who must beat the doctors for sleeping with their family members ( its a small place everybody is jealous over everybody), we neeeed god what else? i thimk this is pretty much it, oh wait maybe some tunnels were some worms and rats grow (good source of protein) we need energy for the power generators, techs to repair generator, the local ccrazy man soo people can have something interesting to talk about (not to mention gossiping about the nurse sluts) but see its a tight loop. i donno if this could work. but if it did it would be great.

(Food dispensers break down, fights over items, power struggles, skills being places, 'teams' and 'jobs'

Rabbling off ideas off the top of my head:
Technicians working shifts to keep a dispenser running, OUTDOORSMAN to simulate food preparation (chefs), Security guards to keep the order, necessity to sleep, and thus having locking doors and 'goods' to steal from rooms, Pets to look after, Science to do to improve the vaults technology (Research rat-anatomy before understanding how to extract rat-meat for the outdoorsmen to prepare in to more efficient meals) Fight arenas for entertainment, 'Services' (Instead of dispensers, food/drinks must be 'created' by a trained individual, training can be done via a 'class', perhaps taken via a terminal? no other means of leveling up) Controls for a moderator 'overseer' to carry out random experiments on the vault.

Probably most of these have already been listed, I haven't read past page 2 of this thread.

We will not add additional scripts in the beginning. Everything that will go on somehow, will be managed by game masters.

Ok so you have a bunch of people sealed in an area, and you want them to roleplay what exactly? All I can see is people talking to each other. Combat seems retarded as it won't really have any effect or just end the experiment depending on how you handle respawns. I'm just curious as how taking a game with nearly no content, then removing what little there is, will be fun. I still want to participate just because im curious to see how it plays out.

ok, i know this is grave dig, but let's hope for the best

now i invoke the Role players of this game to join this RP project!!!!is a good ideea!!!

we can use our skills to aid the vault, some pearsons can be security guards, some mecanics, some researchers(that will learn profesions)and it coud be semi-closed: if you wanna join it, make a caracter and join the project with kid skin

every one can have his place: we can have farmers(whit high scince) mechanics(whit high repair) researchers( crafting caracters) there can be a conspiracy to keep us locked in the vault and some rezidents can start a riot or something like a group that whant's to leave the vault.we can have security officers that can use the researchers stuff, and the moast important we can have a hell lot of time!!!!

so now please, all the roleplayers in this game join this project, let everyone hear about this, some PKs may join the project as some normal rezidents that commited crimes and are sentinced to stay in prison and work as farmers. the dead can join again as kids(we named our kid in the memory of the dead...) and we can have a lot of fun

Only question I have is- are characters supposed to have some experience already (to make them more useful mechanic/doctor/scientist) or will everyone be supposed to create new characters solely for the purpose of this RP event (well, something more than event).

the goal is to live, some will have there principals, some not
there can be some situations putted by the GMs, so others will become ghouls, Super Mutants, there will be some rat infestetion, and there can be a secret conspiracy to leave the vault,etc etc

Setting up some objectives isn't hard, like kicking out one vaultdweller each week if he did lose some contest etc, but the players shouldn't only relyon GMs help when it comes to roleplaying. That's why I'm a bit concerned that this project will bore the players very soon, but I'm probably wrong and it turns out to be good. ;) I'll see if I can rip out the Overseers Skin FRMS from Fallout 1 and we can include it in FOnline for this matter maybe.

(все что было обнаружено в главном терминале убежища)
и так вплоть до 2077 года
далее история умалчивает имена, известно что отцом *Kid Thompson* и матерью были любители более менее нормальной музыки, из доступной в убежище, и изготовленых из какихто медикаментов ( никто так и не узнал каких ) наркотиков.
мать *Kid Thompson* умерла при родах, отец - застрелился из украденного у охранника пистолета.

When it will start?
first of all we must prove that we are at least 50 RPers in this server, after that the devs and GMs will oranize the vault to enter it
The vault will be sealed, so  all the RPest will tell there caracter names and NOT passwords and the skin they whant to have and probably there role
but first we need to be 50
the devs will login with our acounts(they can do this) and move us in our rooms in the vault with the skins we whant and we can start to RP

Count me in. I will also take part of it with pleasure. ;) Anyway, i had similiar idea some time ago, but its hard to do it with only Old Bunker Base. :D

To end it once and for all: This project has been rejected LONG AGO.
It was just due to a (obvious) joke on IRC that Lagmaster thought this project is gonna actually happening.


1 - There is not enough GM power to maintenance a project of that big size at the moment.
2 - It's been proven often times that not all of the players have their fair and ok goals for a "Roleplay project" (lack of a test)
3 - While living in a vault sounds nice at first glance, it is not suitable for a long term roleplay project.
4- Before not anything nice and suitable from the other devs come, this project will sleep under the blankets.

So it gets locked here. Don't be disappointed, it wont mean this project will end here, but it wont be made under the current status. It wouldnt be fair to just throw the players in such a "RP enviroment" without checking before if they are even capable of and before there are no real things to do and more GMs to overwatch it.
