We have seven entries. The voting will take one week starting from now. Results are hidden and will be revealed automatic after voting time will pass.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. War... War never changes. Through the history the man always have been obsessed with ability to control his own fate. This lust lead to obtaining more knowledge. In twenty century mankind learnt how to use power of atom. But war never changes... and this dream of power was cut of. In 2077 the bombs fell and filled sky with light of thousands suns. Over tomb of lost civilisation, filled with cruelty that was never seen before the new world was born. Only fittest survived. In 2238 their grandchildren managed to establish new governments and sins forgotten long ago are being uncharted. Mankind again starts to dream...
2. War... war never changes. Over its existence, mankind has seen many empires, armies or smaller groups that claimed some land their own with all of its wealth.
Great kings and warlords rose to take the belongings of the weaker. Destruction and death were everlasting companions of these times.
Everything for the land and its resources. The end of the world occurred because of the same reason. But this time, no swords or guns were used to achieve victory... A nuclear spark bursting into a global firestorm devouring nearly all life on our planet. Somehow, mankind didn't completely vanish from the face of the earth. Many sought shelter in large underground bunkers, called vaults. Some might have been just lucky enough to be at a better place at the right time. People are wandering through the remains of the countries and cities, trying to survive. Some try to build a new home for what's left of humanity,
some are roaming the radioactive wasteland looting and murdering. What will you do in this hostile world? Because war never changes, in 2238.
3. War... War never changes... Struggling for survival... Developing new weapons... Killing "enemies" for your country while dying for it... An natural thing for a human to do...That was before 2077 October 23 when the apocalypse happened... Almost everything was wiped off from the face of the Earth there were only few survivors... But we are not here to tell about that... We are here to talk about the present... 2238, when most the vaults started to open up... New California republic started expanding even further... New organizations started forming up and fighting over territories got more and more intense... Just when the peace was forming up... BUT war never changes...
4. War. War never changes. Few still live to tell the tales of the horrific day where the sky was cracked open and the sun came down scorching the Earth's surface. Everything drenched in radioactive fire laying Mother Nature's beauty to waste. In the year 2238, nearly 160 years since that fateful day, scars still remain of the Great War between the flags of the countries of old, China and the USA. The world is a dangerous wasteland full of all sorts mutants, brutal gangs of raiders, and a hostile environment killing many who aren't ready to face the challenges of the wasteland. However society has began to redevelop as time has progressed. Some groups have made it there business to preserve the past, either by recovering powerful technology or preserving knowledge once precious to humanity. North of these groups lies a great nation, the New California republic, rallying beneath the flag of the great bear; a nation much like the one of old. The NCR has annexed many towns and hope to restore democracy. However the Enclave intends to return America's former glory, by much more nefarious means. Many towns lie north of the great NCR including a refuge for mutants and humans alike, a city where the great lights and pleasures of the old world reside, a great city where a large group of survivors witnessed the miracles of Vault-tec's technology before there eyes, and a town of scum resorting to an ancient practice on preying on the weak that was abolished many centuries before. Yet there are others just trying to eke out and existence in the harsh wasteland, surviving the everyday horrors they are exposed to. The wasteland is an eternal battlefield where many unknown souls perish in the desert, their existence wiped clean by the sand. And war. War never changes.
5. War. War never changes. Even though decades have passed since the bombs fell and the world we once had known turned into a pile of radioactive ashes, bloodshed still endures in the newly created wasteland. Deep underground vaults, originally designated to give birth to a new generation of humans, instead spawned swarms of scavengers to plunder the burned ruins of the former California. Hordes of mutated monsters stride the scorched deserts and packs of raiders chase loners through the ever so silent mountains. Only few managed to hold out in this harsh world, forming new communities to enhance their chance of survival In the year 2238, the New Californian Republic, once a small battered village with the name Shady Sands, became the most powerful and respected faction, able to control large areas of land. The proud Brotherhood of Steel relied on their knowledge and technology to maintain a last stronghold against any evil in the middle of nowhere, and the mysterious enclave widened its influence on the mainland, using upgraded pre-war machinery. But war never changes. The small towns and villages of the far north could not develop such strength and prosperity. Their fate lies in the hands of rivalling, marauding gangs, striving to dominate the wasteland. Countless battles unravelled the true face of Man, the utmost barbaric existence, driven on by nothing more than the sheer will to survive. At last, the world has fallen back to the state of nature and it lies in your hands to change it.
6. War, war never changes... War was with the humanity since it's exist. Since humans started to form tribes, then kingdoms, countries and even empires they needed war to push forward, but war never changes. In 21st century insane greed for natural resources released the most primitive of human's instincts. China invaded Alaska, Americans counter-attacked and annexed their north neighbours. Rest of the world spited to small countries which fought each other for the last remaining resources. In 2054, one of American corporations, West-Tek maintained the Project Safehouse, a system of fallout shelters called the Vaults, to save the people in case of nuclear attack. In 2077 the spirit of nuclear devastation haunted the Earth. In two short, dark hours human civilization has been turned into ashes and dust. Many Vaults were sealed without many people, due to Cry Wolf effect. Few survived, and this few was the last hope of humanity to rebuild the civilization from the ashed. In 2238, doors of Vaults 7, 14 and 17 was opened and it's dwellers faced a crucial opportunity to leave their shelters and start to live anew. Sandstorms, raider attacks, dangerous mutants dispelled the expeditions and from this time, without equipment and knowledge of the outside world, dwellers have to act on their own, facing the dangers of the post-nuclear reality. Their lifes are about to change...
7. War, War never changes. Nobody knows who initiated the exchange. However, there would be no disputing the result. In the span of mere moments, the actions of a few changed the course of history and the world. Some believed it was an act of god, retribution, for the sins of human kind. The survivors, tried to rebuild the best they could, and for a while, they were successful. But like man, war never changes. Hatred, distrust, paranoia, purely human concepts, again pre-vailed. In 2238, the law is neatly summed up in one simple phrase, "The wasteland is harsh". It is a time of tremendous good, and great evil. Humanity again will be forced to decide whether it will save or doom itself. What will you do?

They all sound the same and are so well written but #7 is pretty cool beans.
-
They all sound the same and are so well written but #7 is pretty cool beans.
hah, yeah, #7 is obviously the winner.
-
(I know it was written that it should be in) but I find all these "War never changes" so horrible... When do people get that its meaning is long overused and abused that it rather sounds like a chore but a decent introduction narrating...
As for the contest I liked numero 4 the most. It's a bit lengthy, but very close to the FO1 narration, which I like.
The parts with the NCR and Enclave for example can be scrapped imo - then it's an excellent one.
Gotta say the others are all nice in their own way too.Good job done there to all of the participants.
-
I don't want to derail, but is there any thread discussing intro, or at least describing what's going on?
If yes, please link it in first post.
-
It's here (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=12103.0), Johnnybravo.
-
Damit I made a major mistake in my shit.
Agree with Surf, 4 is the best one imho.
-
I have to agree on the 4th one being the best, just make sure whichever one wins gets spell checked.
-
Number 4 seems not overally neutral to me, a bit too much "godbless" NCR feeling i got (they are not "good" guys if there is such thing, if you now think otherwise, think twice). I go for number 5, fairly neutral, i would cut the BOS part though, they seem somehow out of space. I mean, normal wastelander doesint know much or cares about BoS, and its those we play as not?
Well, just making a balance.
-
Well, I tihnk it's kind of "unfair", seeing as entry 2 is formatted with paragraphs and the others aren't. Some spelling mistakes and stuff could also be fixed.
-
I voted for 7. Why? I don't know because it has "something" who makes it good.
-
Voted for 2.
It reminds me lot about wasteland life than those others.
-

Yup, I voted for second too :)
-
what about *my favorite things* for intro ?:)
maybe in lennons sisters variant :D
for people that dunno:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNZfZby4RpE&feature=related
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things...
-
More like that one.
http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/thorbor/music/play921660
song plays automatically.
Due to copyright reasons, I can't post the version with the fallout 2 speech and some game sounds implemented. Just imagine a speech over the intro.
-
Don't say what you voted for. There'll be no suprise.
-
I like number 7 the most cuz it is a more realistic view, and written well.
By realistic i mean it not mention vaults, alsaka fallout stuff.
But number 2 is more fitting, and when read seems to have more flow.
Hard choice for me, but i go number 7. but it needs to end with war....war never changes.
-
Voted for number 7.
-
Number 4 is extremely well written, and is lengthy which shows more effort. 4 is the way to go
-
I like the 5th a lot, but i would put it rather in the begining of the game manual. I think that writer has much more to say, than can fit in short intro.
And i really can not decide between 2th and 7th. They are both just great, expressing very accurately the feeling of the world, that the player is thrown in. Maybe those writers should work together?
Also i think that there should be a second round, with say 3 best entries. And give authors some time to correct and improve their work.
-
i will add this, but i do not wanna participate:
War, war never changes... from the dawn of humanity small tribes where atacking ech other to get there food, wather and women. Today nothing changed, only the weapons, the scale and the loot. But war never changes...
In the year 2077 America was winning the great war, but there coward enemies launched all the bombs they got, making America a deserted wasteland, but allmoast all the population took shelter in great underground vaults so they can repopulate what was one, the great America.
In the year 2238, war took other form. Since there was not much urified wather, moast of the wastelanders sufered from intence dehydration, making them think tehy got killed in the worst ways they can imagine, but allways wakeing saved by some nive people from the wasteland. Some of them thinked they are invincible, so they started to raid caravans, patrools and other cityes, since they will allways wake up somewhere in the wasteland with just some easy to heal wounds, they started to kill with no fear of ever dieing. Moast of them organized im powerfull gangs that whants to help or to kill the poor wastelanders that just whant to survive.
Since no one can die, the fights will be endless, making this an ethernal war. But war, war never changes...
si not spell checked, can some one spell check it?(this is not an entry for the competition, this is what i think about the game)
-
Lag here's a voting thread, no?
-
Lag here's a voting thread, no?
well, whanted to post this somewhere, and if i made new topic than surf will come and tell some shity stuff and brah blah blahs and delete or move my monologe
so i find this here fitting just right, no Surf?
-
While you care about trollin' and tree controls, you've missed something creative. 7th entry won! Congratulations to author.
Well... my shit is placed 5th. (6th entry) Not bad for work with serious plot mistake.
-
What did i tell you guys? 8)
-
gotta make the next contest jury-based.
But yes, otherwise I agree. I mean, who cares about feeling for language anyway?
-
Personally, I don't like the "What will you do" at the end. Sounds too... lacking substance? I hope people didn't pick it solely because it was short (and that last option that would get most attention ;p). But maybe some sort of collaboration between the 1st place one and the 2nd place one would be nice.
-
I also didn't like the "what Will you Do" part but by then it was too late too make changes. I wanted to keep it short and succent to distinguish it from the originals, though in hindsight I could have added in a tiny bit more and re-arranged how it all flowed.
War, War never changes. Although it is unclear who fired first, the results could not have been more transparent. In the span of mere moments, the actions of a few, changed the course of history, and the world. Civilisation was almost annihilated, scourged by a great fire and radiation. Some of the survivors believed it was retribution, an act of god, for the sins of mankind. Others believed in a far more simpler explanation, human nature itself. Regardless, humanity managed to pick itself up from the ashes of the nuclear holocaust and rebuild. For a time it was good, but like man, war never changes. In 2238, the law of the wastes could be summed up in one simple phrase, "The wasteland is harsh". Hatred, greed, paranoia, age old human concepts, again pre-vailed. Fanatics who believed themselves chosen and protected by their gods, a united army of rogues, and those of the banner of the dot, were just some who roamed the wastes, taking as they pleased. Yet there were others who stood in their way. A coalition of soldiers who turned a long lost word into a symbol. These armed legal arbitrators, along with their allies, the VSB, brought back justice and humanity to the wastes. It is a time of tremendous good, and great evil. Allies and enemies, like ideaologies, continually shift and change. Humanity will once again be forced to decide whether to save, or doom itself.

^That text sounds a lot better but it still has these terms and phrases in there that are probably word to word translations and don't actually exist in english. Plus, there still are some syntax and punctuation issues.

Uh, which?
Besides, I don't think it's a good idea to include references to actual ingame Gangs or such in that, Keldorn. ;)
-
And thats the beauty of constructive criticism. I included in-game gangs as a tongue in cheek reference but it can be taken out and the message remain the same. I know there are some run on sentences but the commas are meant as breakers for the narrator.
-
wow i totally missed this one... this still open?

Nah, number 7 won.

Why not to include in-gangs reference? Most content is created by them.NPC faction right now are not worth mentioning, for exemple BoS serves only as a source of cheap ammo:D

It is?

Yeah, ask CS for example. Except "omfg u n00b i pwn u" they cannot into english.
Besides it's the best way to start yet another flamewar about gang e-penises.
-
It took "some" time to sum this up. Here is list of participants, bold one is winner of our lil contest (but in fact everyone that took part should feel like a winner, all in all it was only about making something creative):
1. skejwen
2. Andr3aZ
3. manian112
4. Kiljoy Sean
5. John Porno
6. headshot
7. Keldorn
-
I can't seem to get the scripter to work but I can submit material for Holodiscs/RP/Quests/etc.
-
i unfortunately lose this contest and i wanted to participe. i made my own intro script, but i was unable to send it, now i want to post it, i think is worst than the one of Keldorn, and also have a lot of sintax, and verbaltime errors since im Mexican and i dont know properly english (i only know "chicano") but i want to post my intro script, only for my selfhapyness :)
77 years has gone since the Vault Dweller choosed his fate, destroying the Master and the mutant army, he may die believing that a new world of hope and peace will begin, but war...war never changes.
Now is the year 2238, the northern cityes fell into a permanent anarchy state, now big legions of gangs disput the control of the remains of old setlements, city by city, room by room, wasteland has never seen that combat since before the Big War.
In the south the corrupted NCR tries to keep his status of republic and his expansionist purposes, but they are at the border of the civil war, the otherdays justice city of Fresno is now the refuge of the scum of the wastes.
Long time ago Enclave and the Brotherhood where the most powerful factions in the wasteland, but now powerful gangs has been growing up making his new laws in the tired desert, now they all are only little pieces in the big chess of the wasteland.
Meanwhile the forces of the Caesar looks from the east, planning the genocide, trying to take what NCR dont deserves.
Now you are nothing, so what will you do when the truly apocalipsis begins?
-
There are quite many grammar mistakes :-\
-
-snip-
2238 has absolutely nothing to do with Caesar's Legion.
Other then it's good.
@haraldax: He mentioned that...
-
2238 has absolutely nothing to do with Caesar's Legion.
You'll be surprised. :)
-
You'll be surprised. :)
Well not this 2238 anyways... It's been mentioned the devs will not be including caesar's legion into the game.
Took the time to fix it up by the way:

@below: Where is the part of bos/enclave?
-
You'll be surprised. :)
yes now there are Dam patrols and Powder Gangers pwtrolling the wasteland, it is not relationed to New Vegas but Van Burem, also i know it is gramatically a ghoul :P. but if you could read the spanish version...
also i modified my post to include something about BOS and enclave wich i see good to include
-
Well not this 2238 anyways... It's been mentioned the devs will not be including caesar's legion into the game.
Yeah, I'm talking out of the blue. ::) Anyway, you'll see.
-
Yeah, I'm talking out of the blue. ::) Anyway, you'll see.
We don't have Caesar's Legion, because we are in the year 2238. Schizophrenic nightkins and powder gangers are not an invention of FNV. Hoover Dam caravan is in the game since a year or so as well.
-
ok maybe legion dont exist yet, but in 2238 NCR has not begin his expansion.
so who are the Hoover Patrol?
PD: i will striketrough that part of my script
come on dont make a discussion about story line and canons, this is an artistic treath, also im not participating in it, i just showing my history, and dont tell me that then i should put it in the Fan Art section because anyway people will discusse about the legion
-
It has been a long 77 years since the defeat of the master and his army. The Vault Dweller, believeing that a new period of hope and peace had been ushered in, passed away with a clear concience.
But war, war never changes.
In 2238, the northern cities are in perpetual anarchy. Factional control is in a constant state of change, with no peace within sight. Block by block, room by room, the fighting is brutal. The horrors of urban combat, not seen since the days of the great war, is considered part of daily life.
In the south, the NCR has grown decadent. After years of un-interrupted rule, it vainly continues its expansionist goals. However, they are on the brink of civil war.
The Brotherhood Of Steel and the Enclave, continue to operate. Unfortunately, their policies of isolation have left them with no armies to execute policy. Their high technology, left un-used in their armories. With their fall came the rise of other gangs. They too, are now just pieces, to the chessboard of the wastes.
Meanwhile in the East, a new powerful faction has emerged. Taking their name from an empire of old, they plan on orchestratng a new genocide. Plans have been made to take what the NCR cannot hold onto.
A new apocalypse has been ushered in. How will you survive?
Just my take on Reinats contribution. I like how it is closer to the intros from 1 and 2, with mention to the previous Fallouts.
-
Reiniat, that depends on what you considering NCR not beggining their expansion, in 2241 they controlled the hub, boneyard and several other areas (granted thats 3 years after the server but I can't find a specific date on when they controlled those) i think it's safe to assume they technically "should" control those in game and as such have obviously expanded a bit, legion does indeed not exist yet (haven't played the van buren demo could be wrong since if anything i would go by that rather than bethseda, but according to bethseda the legion was created a bit later, Caesar being only 12 in the year 2238, Not quite sure what you mean about who are the hoover patrol, but possibly you are talking about the Desert rangers (before they joined the ncr rangers)
Also, how can you say to not make it about cannon, without cannon an intro would be semi shit, IMO.

there is actually a encounter called Dam Patrol in fonline,i dont know who are they, but the Desert Rangers supposition soundsprobably, i go to thw holy bible to be sure.
my intro cant be the official intro since Keldorn win, but yes without canon is useless
also about the aport of keldorn, its beautiful to see my intro without grammatic misspells, also you make it an profesional job. also i do the intro without seen the other intros, i actually see the contest post one day before of my vacations, i go to my ranch and write my intro, but when i come back it was close, i get thirsty and forget about it, until i get to this treath again and see the winners and the intros, i sincerously think that my intro is better than most of the intros, tough it has a horrible grammatic, if i just can come back three months..... or 15 years and properly learn english :'(
-
Well, it was fun to create this but at the same time i find it really difficult to get near the original, especialy when listened to the spoken intro.
All time i wrote this i read it out loud to myself in a similar voice. I must say that pronouncing and timing is esential for a good feeling, so sad thing we had no altruistic professional voiceactors who could have voiced the entries.
I congratulate all other participants and of course the winner of this little creativity contest. :)
