Blow them up! (About demolition expert)
« on: September 27, 2010, 12:59:33 pm »

I have some thoughts about a perk and profession.
As far as I know Demolition Expert perk only gives you a 10 dmg bonus for TNT and Plastic explosive and it will always explode at settled time. I was thinking about it usefulness, and maybe it should give additional 10 damage to all exploding weapon types. For instance there is a perk "Pyromaniac" for fire-based weapon. Since there is just 2 exploding weapon types (frag grenades and rockets) it could be much more useful and not to powerful.

Demolition Expert profession. According to wiki there is no chance to get 3rd level of that profession and requirements for each level is overrated. Not a single profession requires as much skill pints and stats to get just level 2. And besides that it almost doesn't gives you anything except 2 types of grenades. Additionally I think it is proper for demolition experts to make Rockets (Both Explosive and AP) it is, after all, explosives. Anyway this could improve an interest to this profession, and if explosives will be enabled...

P.S.
I was thinking about Melee\Thrown weapon Fighter who could first knock down an enemy with grenade, after that he could approach and finish him. Could be a nice adjustment to improve melee. (Someone with enough AP from bonus move and usual AP, if only bonus move would improve moving speed in RT, but that is for another discussion)

Good points dude. I thought about something like that too with my Rocketgirl.
would be nice to give the Demoman prof more advantages in other things except crafting & throwing Grenades or SuicideBomB some NCR dudes

I think that DemoExpert Perk should give percentual bonus to damage (something like 10%), right now it's just a wasted perk if you have high traps skill (even without it the explosives go off on time).

The DemoExpert Profession should be called Granade Smith imho, because since the 3rd era (the removal of C4) until now it has been used only to craft grenades (there are some exceptions in NCR :) )

Explosives have lot of unused potential in Fonline, but since there is no one really whining about it, i think it won't change anytime soon...

I one time died from a placed trap. and that was rare too. It could take PvP to a new level if you could lay mines and traps more efficent it would also encourage counter-trap chars to clean minefields and other traps.

Traps like mines only would lead to more trolling of people in guarded towns, or whenever "lulz" can be provided.
They are ingame, but not available for players, for obvious reasons.

Just sayin'.

I actually do not think so, since the guards have that divine detection of placing a trap, it could be easily solved if the guards were able to defuse explosives/traps even when the skill of a bomber is higher then 200 (it's not logical when guards kill someone for placing a trap and do nothing about the trap itself)

On a related note, guards now can detect a dynamite that has a set timer.  They shout something about a terriorist.  We had a nice hot potato game the other day with people picking it up and getting shot by guards.

as far as I know, this happens only when your traps skill is low...

L M A O.  Guards have divine nothing.  They will watch you get pickpocketed, They will sit there while people block you in and let you get unprotected.

I do like the idea's about modifying DE.  Looks like it has some promise.

Mines would be a good thing for PvP. We aint stupid we got many ways to prevent uber-trolling with mines.

As for guarded town: Let the guards defuse it. No checks, they just do it anyway.
As for nonguarded town: To prevent fully mining up the town, make a server-side counter, if layed mines get over amount X the first layed mine of amount X becomes a dud (taken from the game)

I'm thinking about posting this as a suggestion but im afraid of someone seeing no reason to add mines into the game.

Remote detonator (modyfied radio) anyone?

Just make Explosive Rocket Demo 1, AP Rocket Demo 2.

Demo is fine, really. Just have to make up your own creative uses.

Also, you can max it out and still get 2 levels in other stuff.

Mines/remote detonators are lulzy, but cause too much butthurt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps a HandMine- a "game compromise" claymore that cannot be ground planted due to abuse potential, but can be used from active slot. (And must be reloaded 1 at a time from inventory.)

Say 3 Junk, 3 MP, 1 Wood, 1 Electronic Part, 5 frag grenades, 1 hour crafting cooldown. Equal to 1 burst from an Avenger, always hits all in burst cone. -10 DR. 6 AP to use; does not work with BRoF or Fast Shot. Knockdown as SuperSledge or rocket.

Demo 2 Improved HandMine is regular HandMine plus a dynamite and 2 more junk and 2 more MP.  Damage as regular handmine plus 3 levels of BRD. -25 DR. 30 minute crafting cooldown. AP to use as regular HandMine. 50% better knockdown than regular HandMine.

Damage type? Explosive or 50% explosive/50% Normal (shrapnel).

I wish there were bags, backpacks, etc. in Fonline.

You mean the guy fires a handheld-mine from his hand against his foes ? Thats really badass dude, but very suicidal.
Also check out the suggestion of Mayck over here http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=9617.0

He has made some good points and we have also thought about a way to prevent mines/explosive ground traps to be no butthurt and no troll-tool.

Imagine a landmine type of grenade that you slide from under you to set hex so for example when someone is running after you you can run behind a wall toss a landmine and keep running saving you maybe 3 or more seconds and the distance of he explosive should throw you at least 5 hexes.
