Merchants and BB's
« on: September 19, 2010, 11:11:24 am »

For example, look at Gunrunner's stock. About 70k of BB's :o. Why are merchants so eager to buy large amounts of BB's? My suggestion is that some merchants won't buy BB's any longer. I know that it will ruin so player's business but seriously a merchant who is selling snipers, miniguns and laser rifles souldn't buy all the BB's in the Wasteland. This ammo has no use (it has only one use "jut for lulz", but again 70k :o).
Now even with changed gathering cooldown it is extreamly easy to get large amount of junk.

First, 1 BB costs 4 caps at merchant selling small guns. I know it won't destroy economy when some new player sell 200 BB's but again 70k :o. Why should we even use caps when we can buy anything for fistful of BB's.
Second, this merchants are spammed with BB's and they don't have any wort-to-buy item or caps. I don't mind if players sell junk, minerals, gunpowder, deteriorated weapons... These are also easy to get resources and someone mightl be willing to buy them from merchant (in decent amount). But nobody will buy BB's.
The economy must go on, and if nobody wants the goods why should merchants increase its amount.

Maybe reducing price from 4 to 1 will be enought because crafting BB's from junk won't be profitable.

I think BBs are probably the most crafted item in the game. That says a lot about the crafting system, and I don't think the solution is to nerf BBs.

Crafting BBs works because it's fun. You wander around, getting into encounters, and scavenging what you find lying around. You craft it, and you can immediately then trade them in for reasonable gear. No messing around with professions or mines or anything. No tools required. There's not a huge amount of risk, and it's nicely integrated with combat - you're fighting and scavenging at the same time.

It's basically the scavenging system we have at its finest  ;D.

Making caps with BB's is an amazing idea. Think of it, it's the year 2238 the world has ended, people craft BB's with all the junk they find. The wasteland now has over 1 million Bb's everywhere, those bb's are made out of copper or brass or whatever. They are now recyclables, so therefore all merchants around the wastes are "trading" their BB's to NCR, Hub, San Fran etc, as raw materials. If you melt down 1 million bb's you now have the resources necessary to make all sorts of more advanced things, like metal walls, cars, armour, etc etc etc... That is why places like JunkTown would need "Junk".

Your idea is interesting and appreciated because of realism, but in the end BB's are vital to the lore of the Fallout World. If it weren't for the random pounds of pure melted down BB's the world just wouldn't be the same.

Its also a great way for noobs to play with each other online, grab 10 of your noob friends, go out and gather junk -> make bb's and BOOM your rich.

So what you're really saying is that we need a bb minigun to use up all those bbs. Imagine how fast you could copper plate your shack firing at 40,000 rpm.

i think base prise for bbs shoud be set to 1 or 2  becuse you can gather 2 junk at a time now so with a full in or junk 22 mins 22 junk and that makes 300 bbs in 20  min worth 1200
