Crafting...
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:10:15 am »

The change to crafting hasn't happened yet. It will be to make crafting tier 2 + 3 stuff "unsafe". Hopefully resulting in actually having to defend yourself whilst doing so meaning pure crafting alts will just die.

Also Tier 3 is going, so profession requirements are lower, meaning you have to sacrifice less to be able to craft what you want.

So the object is to make crafting higher lvl gear nearly impossible for anyone who isn't lvl 18+ with a gang behind them?  It is hard enough to craft anything above tier one, the mines are either full of several Heavy geared pkr's or there's 2 waiting outside to kill you on your way out.  Now you're considering making even the building process harder.  I mean if you don't have a base and you try to build something in a [guarded] town, you're likely to be picked clean before you get to a bench.

"crafting alts will just die."  If you want to build a character that can actually survive in the wastes, no matter the new crafting req's people are gonna have to make an alt.  Unless the req's are so low that anyone with under 100 in a skill can do it, and SPECIAL less than 6 in whatever stat.  Because you have to understand those players are going to be up against other PC's built solely for death, that will never end.  And I assure you, those people who are trying to craft will be targeted [MUCH] harder by the Combat PC's simply to take what they have.

In this game I do know it's about the interactions of people in the wasteland.  But it's beginning to look more and more like, if you aren't a member of a group you're boned.  Even the duo I run with we're still way behind a lot of people.  Don't get me wrong I'd love to join a gang.  Are there any out there that act like humans, that don't just slaughter anyone weaker than them without a thought of respect?  (yeah I'm not holding my breath)

basically it means the big factions will all retain their power while smaller players and groups get the shaft

I've got no problem that gangs will dominate in pvp and basically everything because setting up a gang and keeping its members requires some skill and understanding of group dynamics. One man's efforts should never overcome the efforts of many men. But one man can outsmart a group, but not in this game because our chars aim, shoot, sneak, spot enemies, dodge and resist shots for us. It doesn't take skill or cleverness to earn experience by grinding and then spending points in small guns. Why should it provide rewards which in most respected games are received with smartness and gaming ability?

Yes but they are trying to build a dynamic game that might actually go somewhere someday.  If the only way to progress in a game is to give up your reasons for playing the game and enjoying it, then why bother?  If I have to throw my respect for people and the thought that in a wasteland the only way to actually grow is to learn from the past, most notably mankinds inability to share (2077ad).  Then we might as well be playing as deathclaws, or feral ghouls.

If they continue gearing things in the game [crafting, surviving] towards those who can become mindless monsters.  The people who don't want to become that, are just gonna be as put earlier [Shafted]

Uhuh, but unsafe mines being unaccessible for certain people is problem that consists of many parts like too simple pvp, girdcamping, boredom and lack of consequences of actions. We can't discuss all these things here in this thread.

Very true.  But to change Crafting in the fashion they are considering would push things even further into the zone you speak of.

You could also quote the places where I say it will be also available through domination mode, faction scenario  .... and at the end of PvE.

I.e. Open to people via small numbers PvP, open numbers PvP where there is free equipment or at the end of a PvE place. Aswell as being freely available at any time in several unguarded locations.

Outside of the highest tier being avaialble for level 3 and 4 characters, which is silly, there should be a route for everyone to craft their stuff.

It's a turn to better direction for sure but it's not still open for everyone. Certain builds will dominate those matches and force everyone to make such builds or lose.

A guy who took a bit worse perks and didn't invest largely in main weapon skill, first aid, action points and hps will get his ass handed to him in those domination fights even if he plays dozens of rounds and learns the few strategic elements of pvp. Pvp should be open to all regardless of build and it takes some toggling with how stats, perks and skills reflect your chances of success.

Then they can do the PvE, or be one of many (hopefully) on a faction scenario team, where individuals will count for less.

Comon you know our community, what's not useful in pvp, will either be invested in alts and if there's no alts such features remain unused. If we're aiming towards future where alts aren't major part of gameplay we're gonna have lots of unused perks and scorned skills because they don't provide any fighting boost.

Unless there becomes other ways to gain power, respect and influence than face to face combat.

Well, you should have seen drug and weapons changes that make pure combat chars less awesome. This crafting change makes alting less great (forces chars to be able to defend themselves to craft, so needs more levels to build thi9s ability up (hopefully these domination, scenarios, PvE or unguarded maps add a little content to be enjoyed too) and the future will bring more ways that pure combat chars and well rounded ones or more equal too.

We'll get there eventually.

In the meantime you have routes for serious pvp players, casual players who enjoy event style combat and pure PvEers to be able to craft their fancy toys.

Here's hoping.  Still dodging some of the balance with crafting and over all survival.  But you're looking into those other issues.  Again, here's hoping.  ;D
