I would like to address the thief greifing problem.
« on: September 02, 2010, 10:20:33 pm »

Problem #1 Escape Lag

When you press escape twice, it tends to take an extra second to click off while in trade, you've all seen it, the blank dialogue screen just sitting there while your robbed leaving you helpless.

Problem #2 fake stealing

Some people like to be dicks and greif people by faking the steal skill on them making it impossible to trade with a vendor for a uneducated wastelander due to paranoia.

Problem #3 "Hey ass hole what am I payin ya fo?"

This is an address and a suggestion:  When a thief is caught stealing from YOU, lemme make it clear, YOU, any mercenaries you have with you will immediately attack and attempt to kill the thief AND, (yes theres an AND) LOOT the thief, so gaurds don't confiscate YOUR goods.  I mean, wtf man Your guys are just gonna stand there and watch some bitch pick your pockets????

Problem #4 Groups of thieves

This is technically ok, its a cool tactic BUT sometimes its overabused, when more than one thief blocks you in, idk, a corner or something, unless you have a gun and ammo in it, PLUS, only if they're caught stealing, its practically a fucking free-for-all with no way to counter it.

Thats about it atm.  :P

The thieves are hilarious!

Just give 6 RT minutes to kill a thief if he's caught.
(With the first minute of that counting as "Battle" for exit grid purposes.)

The kill flag expires on death, so he can come right back and start thieving again,
Nothing wrong with that, just don't be afraid to "die".

I don't think it should be possible for a 'gang' of thieves to corner you in a [guarded] town and take all your stuff.  Hell it's sad enough that the guards see it and all they do is say "Look he's trying to take something." in THEIR city.  Yet in the wasteland if someone is a Raider [professional thief] don't be standing between them and the people who work for the SAME town as those guards.  I think it wouldn't be such a harsh feature to add if someone becomes unguarded in a town, especially for stealing, that they get turned into human salsa, by all the firepower those guards are sitting on while they're picking their noses.

1. That's indeed a problem
2. As said in at least 1 thread in the suggestions forum, there should be a different animation for stealing
3. Agreed. Slaves and mercs should protect you against thieves
4. Door blockers should be shot by guards after a few seconds. If you're stupid enough to go stand in a corner like at Dusty's or Buster's in NCR, that's your mistake. On a side note, remove the fence at the doctor's office across Dusty's in NCR. Thieves regularly block your path there.

Yeah standing in the corner so your back is turned to the book cases, stupid idea, I should have known... [thieves get bonuses to steal from behind]

Still good ideas about something to balance, the so called [guarded] towns.

Standing with your back against a bookcase and standing in a corner are 2 different things.
It takes less people to block you when in a corner.
Another stupid spot to stand is against the wall next to the table in Dusty's.

There's a thief with hotel room in hub. So every time he dies he just gets back and tries to steal again. Why do the hub police allow such lowlife inhabit the city?

housing is stupid in general, anyone who gets there first gets it til the wipe is over. it should kick you out of the hotel if your rep drops below 50 or something.

I think there should just be more rooms. Definitely not enough housing for 400ish players.

This is something that really does need to be addressed.  These are supposed to be [guarded] towns and yet these people constantly able to break the law, and seriously make the 'beta-test' process much more difficult.

Thieving is part of the game and needs to be tested too.

The more I am with fonline I experience the impression that fonline = griefing. Those points you made, especially 3rd should be considered ASAP (People always say youll suffer because you dont have X SPECIAL point, now when players actually have the req SPECIAL and should take benefit out of it nothing is done to do that (ok recently mercs autoreload! bravo!) mercs or even slaves should guard you if we have such stupid griefing system when somebody would like to play fair.

Thieving is 1 of the many elements of this game, accept it.
It's fair as you have plenty of oppurtunity to walk away or avoid them (not going to NCR for instance).

I got killed yesterday by a group of 3 PK and today by 1 who seriously outleveled me.
As I like to play fair, I'm wondering what your solution to this problem is?
Hello Kitty?

Science, traps and especially speech and gambling are elements of the same game too and guess what? Theres nothing done with them (science/traps used for crafting not for real purpose like in F2, gambling speech do not exist)

Oh yes you do have opportunity, especially when you happen to casually enjoy and sell your inventory full of loot and some people either using any skill or steal on you or just approaching you making you hesitant or make you quit and come back to tedious dropping and coming back to your guerrilla warfare-like trading. Yeah, this is the skill of unleashed potential, im so grateful I do not need to know if someone heals me or steals from me.

If you're not wounded, you know the answer.
Simply don't allow people to stand next to you.
