OMGWTFBBQ?!
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:00:42 pm »

So far, I am hooked. Rather than hit the sack some.. oh, hours ago.. I'm still on my Sacred Quest to Obtain Brahmin Hides (incidentally, does anybody know of a map location containing Indian people? That might be actually easier... ;D).

My most recent achievement was an encounter with five cowbeasties, that ended up with my victorious possession of five (count 'em, FIVE!) hides. Also, along the way I found some tradeables that I hoped would suffice to cover the purchase of another five.

Unfortunately,I was stumbling about the more dangerous northern area, so after my previous experience in Broken Hills I decided to head south toward Boneyard where I previously aspied several of the Holy Items, with a stopover in the Hub in hopes off finally accomplishing the Task.

Alas, lack of familiarity with the map and dangers of the world brought me in the vicinity of the Necropolis. I was somewhat put away by being attacked by Zombie Scavengers (why can't we all be Carebears? Why?), but such is life in the Wasteland. Doing my already well practiced imitation of a headless chicken, I quickly outpaced the shuffling zombies (who aren't really all that slow, the cheating rascals).

Then I saw the big green blob of Necropolis itself. Figuring to skirt the settlement, I went to south-east of it, already being in one-square range. Ah, the sweet ignorance...

A moment later came the first encounter with Zombie Crazies. Thankfully, there was also a large pack of rats along for the ride (itself enough to kill me a few times over), so I only got hit once in the first round. Headless Chicken (tm) running away, I got hit, critically, twice. To the groin. From behind. Against all my expectations, being shot in the ass did not give me any AP advantage. I think it's a bug...

In any case, with 7 HPs I actually somehow managed to get out of range of those gun-wielding skin-shedding maniacs (or rats joined in and preoccupied them, whichever). Barely pausing to bind up my nobly gained wounds (quick first-aid boost up to 36 HPs), I did my best to get the HELL. AWAY.

Alas. Barely two travel dots away, I had the pleasure to run into another group of Crazies (some eight or so). I think there was something else also on the map. I don't know. It all went into a bit of a blur and I persevered, yet again, with more holes to my ass and a full 4 HP counter once I managed to get away.

Yes, my friends, lady Luck was with me. Then she went on a well-deserved break...

ONE travel dot away, where do I find myself, I ask you? Why, among a group of Desert Stalkers (and here I thought Deathclaws were mean...). Unfortunately, I run out of Chicken at that point, and the buggers chased me down. Then stood around while I hovered at 0 hps. Then killed me again once I recovered. Probably teabagged me after that, too, but I wasn't looking by then.

And thus yet another setback in my pursuit of the rarest of possessions, the Tent.

However, I shall endure.

For I am the Chosen One.

(Although this does beget the question - Chosen by what or whom?)

tl:dr - this game is bloody hilarious :D

Hehe, good to read something like that from time to time. Brahmin hides are hard to get, I agree =( But try to do quests, they're awesome and profitable !

I already received offers from kind players that wanted to give me the necessary items, but... that's not really the point of playing a game for me. Even if it's so. Bloody. Annoying!

I know from other games that it is very hard to match the initial experience when everything is new and a surprise (usually not of the good kind, either :D)

As to quests, I did some shoveling, and box carrying, but the prevalence of thieves in the safe towns just made it too much of a hassle. Not as much fun as getting my ass blown to bits by random NPCs.

The random encounters are awesome, though. Even if all I (mostly) do is run away from them. Especially when seeing another player in there :D

Although I did bravely face a pack of four rats! HAH!

I figure I might get the tent around... oh, level 15. Leveling up on rats alone...  ;D

Bloody nice piece of writing. Made me laugh a couple of times. Please provide us with some more extracts from the journeys of the Chosen One. Maybe the perilous travels to Broken Hills mine? Whatever they may be, keep them coming.

A old song about Sir Robin is in order here.

Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die,
O brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken,
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin!

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his pen...

Maybe the perilous travels to Broken Hills mine?

I am afraid that is not overly interesting.

"Ooh, new town. Lesse!"

"Huh. Muties. Shedskins. Hello Ms. Town Militia."

::Chat with the Mayor. Pretend to accept that Muties are nice. After all, that one's got a really, really big gun.::

"Hm, I wonder what that building is... Hotel? Never been in a hotel..."

"Bank? With a mutie teller? OMGWTFBB-"

::Kablooey. Zip. Splot.::

-Out of internal organs error-

That aside, the presence of a Supermutant bank teller explains the devaluation of caps. TI am not a racist, but those brutes were definitely behind the crash of housing market, especially in Broken Hills. Especially when you consider the CDO (Cash or Death Options) offered there! Nowadays, with the regional deregulation, they don't even bother with the first, either...

So. Now you know the real reason I still don't have my tent. I'm waiting for the market conditions to improve before I invest... Just don't let too many people know. Or send them over to me, I have a 36% guaranteed return scheme involving investment against caps.

Details can be yours for just a small one-time payment!

...

Or, as a promotional bonus for joining my continuous coverage of the Wasteland's Futures market:

Invest in heavy metals. I guarantee you their value is only going to increase while the value of caps, at best, remains constant. Although that is not guaranteed with the influx of cheap expensive products of the Chinese San Francisco workshops. On the other hand, an investment in, at least, Metal Armor and an alloy-composite Sledgehammer is guaranteed to return profits exceeding the initial investment. Moreso if you can afford to invest in such costly enterprise as Rocket Launcher or a Minigun.

(You can tell I am way past my regular bedtime, can't you? Or wake-up time, for that matter...  ;D)

Hah, don't tempt me or I'll start an in-game reporter-type character. Even got a spiffy title and caption for the newsrag:

It would have been much more safer and much more lucrative to have looked for the hides in NCR.  Also, if you ask around NCR for somebody to help you out, they'll usually oblige for a noob.  I usually give 10 hides if somebody needs it.   ;D

I visited NCR once, for about five minutes, and if the other characters were female might have stayed for longer, but all that hand-heavy attention from men is just not for me, sorry.

I also got offers of help from kind folks on the forum, but that kind of kills the whole idea, doesn't it? Besides, by now it turned into an epic adventure :D

I didn't feel like doing page layout, and thankfully don't have my desktop publishing stuff installed (or text editor other than Wordpad, so excuse the typos and all).

You're a loonie.

Also... Daily Brahmin is absolutely genius.  If you'd put this in as an entry into the Battle of the Scribes event, you would have won.
