Lag?
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:32:15 am »

It seems that whenever I am in a random event with hostile critters it is fine, but if I get hit by one of them either with a gun or in melee I get 'pulled back' so I end up moving far too slow and getting butchered. Is this due to lag? Does anyone else get this problem? The only time it occurs is if I get hit  :(

My ping averages at around 319. This lag makes real time combat unplayable. My only advice from this experience to you is to use turn based combat so you are not as disadvantaged, but in big hostile critter encounters it can be tedious  :(

Its part of the game, when you get hit you need to stay in one place untill the enemies turn is over and then try to make a move otherwise you will run away slowly (which sort of appears to be lag but it isnt). Remeber this is a Beta afterall.

its not lag, and its not a bug.
Think about it, If you get hit by something, be it rock, or bullet, are you just going to stay in motion at the same pace? no, this is emulation of that, in game.

It's a strange bug.

I use few different connections to play the game, and it occurs while I'm using two of them but not when I'm using the third. I think it's some high ping issue

Yes it's a problem. Certain times when you're not lagging (100 latency) even a mole rat can "drag" you back, making fleeing impossible. This is in real time, mind you. And it is a very big issue.

Both sides are right.

When you're hit you do check, to imitate the bullet hitting. But there is also some weird thing where you can get dragged back, which is a different thing.

Waow.
Funny thing. :)

Tell me if I have well understood, you mean that sometimes, your character use an animation showing him hit by something, and sometimes not.
If that's right, the roll can it modified by something, like a stat, or is it the same roll for everyone ?

Not really an animation, it just checks your run. Nothing character based changes it happening

Well IMHO it's probably a lag issue now, because why would the devs make there a negative side to using real time combat over turn based? I doubt it is meant to be a game feature. Does anyone with a low ping get this issue, maybe during a lag spike, or is it only high ping people?  :-\

It may be nothing they can do and I doubt they will fix it.

You enter real-time combat, and began running.. A mole rat attacks you and you seem to "warp" back to the position you were previously in.

Client-side, you are running away. The server still registers your location in the place you were attacked, thus moving you back to there. But it only happens on certain enemies, which is very strange.
