Because people expect more from a game than outdated top down rts style gameplay?

Hey now everyone should hope this game does come to light, with interplay making it it shouldnt become a failout 3 and I've seen fallen earth work quite well with the post apocalyptic theme and enough items/shit to craft that it keeps you interested...as long as bodies are fully lootable on their death of course because as we all know, The Wasted is Harsh.

I wonder, if Interplay rips off 2238, should we feel ourselves betrayed or honored?

Because, i'd really want to see certain elements from 2238 in this MMO again, like mining and crafting (perhaps with our beloved cooldown...), professions, valuables (fair "more risk/less grind" equations), bases with benches...

Also, what i would really appreciate, is the old travelling system. Why?

They don't have to map the entire Wasteland. Bigger areals and randomly generated terrain in encounters would suffice, if they make travelling in a classic, slightly improved map travelling interface, loading a small map upon encounter.

That way, they save themselves A LOT of work, which would probably lead to a encounter-cramped, yet overhuge Capital Wasteland anyway and concentrating on interesting encounters instead, also allowing them to add new content almost freely.

Also, that would expand the game world immensely and would allow hidden individual locations, like tents and faction bases.

But yet, they should at least mention the Pioneers of Fallout Online, then.

i'd say that it would be great, but as it so often happens, why make great, while good sells better?
I'm not really expecting much from it, prefer this instead.

Ha as if interplay would rip off 2238. Rip off what exactly? There's nothing groundbreaking or original going on here and they sure as hell aren't making a top down isometric game.

Gordulan does have a pretty good point, and lets be honest Interplay has had alot of financial troubles so they probably will gear it to the masses who enjoyed F3 and not as much to those that enjoyed the first two but still it will be a few years before its out so lets keep making FOnline better while we wait to see if its going to be shit or not.

I revive this thread for some news...

Some guy in The Vault gathered news posts by Chris Taylor about Fallout Online. It's pretty interesting.

See the last part? Well, it could really apply to FOnline. I mean, it's the main idea of traits. Right now there are traits that everyone take, some that no one take, but all are quite superficial. With traits that would change the character in a deeper way, we could really see some "classes" appear.

Well they can make some real money on this game thanks to F3 but I don't think the money will be worth it. There are simply too many good MMOs coming and I doubt that theirs FOnline will bring anything new to the market. MMOs like TERA, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Secret World and Guild Wars 2 will rule the internet when they are out. Especially GW2 with their "singleplayer" subscription.

There will be lots of PvP, but that won't be the only activity.
There will be restrictions. Our vision of PvP requires player consent.
PvP can occur pretty much anywhere in the world, but not all players can partake in PvP. This goes beyond the /duel command; there is a whole different system in play here. It's not the old EQ-style PVP switch. It's something new. We're just not ready to give details at this time.
If you heavily commit to PvP, you will be rewarded. It will be risky, but the rewards are designed to make it worthwhile. If you'd like to dabble in PvP, you will still be rewarded and won't risk as much. We hope to entice more people to be involved in PvP, without making it a requirement.

True, KOTOR online (as some guys use to call it) will rule ! But... Talking about Fallout Online, it just won't be worth it. Last Fallout games were bad, indeed : Fallout:BOS, Fallout 3, soon New Vegas that I'm not sure to like, and now Fallout Online. Names of Fallout's original developers won't be enough to convince me it's a good game. Even if look at it regardless of Fallout 1 & 2 experience, it won't be as good as the other MMOs that you quoted. And if we look at Fallout 1 & 2, and then at Fallout Online... Well... If it isn't similar to FOnline - at least in graphics - it will be bad :P

I enjoy to hear news about Interplay & his Fallout Online. I can't wait for this game. FOnline is the best mod for Fallout, but we must know this is only mod...

So how it works legaly and legaly uses maps, names, textures, plot etc. from oryginal Fallout? It works as mod, another way is excluded by the copyrights & law.

You are clearly confused about the meaning of the term game mod. FOnline is written from scratch, it's completely different engine. Just because it uses some dat files of Fallout to display the same graphics that Fallout had doesn't make it Fallout mod.
