What is Role Playing?
Lexx:
But it's annoying to read this kind of stuff in the game. Even reading this in the internet... wonder what these people think. It doesn't make them look much smarter...
baaelSiljan:
Love it or hate it, I choose to ignore it. But You can't change it.
Maybe by doing some filter for words like "lol" or emoticons to convert them to emotion whisper like: lol -> /e Laughing out loud or ":)" -> /e smiling , or even make dictionary:
noobstupid new boylolLaughing out louduYou
"lol u n00b i kill u" => Laughing out loud You stupid new boy i kill You
of course You can use leet (l33t) translation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet, or even check orthography and punctuation - but where's point?
I can find it fun, I really enjoy to meet people from whole wastelands and I feel cultural differences. From this point of view, it is really nice.
BTW:
Newbie is used since 1960s by US troppers.
Noob is used since 1981, same as leetspeak.
Arminius:
The good roleplayer can adapt himself provided there's a realistic environment to adapt himself to... And it's not the slang only, but also the whole story about levels and nerfing, and grinding, the the noting of the devs... You can't imagine a wasteland with levels, devs, admins, mods, skins, nerfing, whatever. You can't adapt to that without leaving the character's role.
You know what I think the game needs? That system in NMA that corrects leetspeak. :D

That would be a lot of coding.
Did you know that "C mon" (no space) changes to "come on" on this board?
baaelSiljan:
Sorry, but this isn't movie, theater or book. There are people who are playing game. If You lock them ability to be free in speaking, they will leave that game, or make own communicator (maybe via proxy or something). Otherhand - this is smallest problem of all of them. Even update and improve ingame dictionary (this one which modify your text corresponding to IN and speech skill) is more important.
come on ... lets be less restrictive.
