Horse travelling
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:08:33 pm »

What about travelling by horse? I know that there weren't any horses in Fallout 1/2/Tactics (also 3 probibly, but I didt play this shit), but why could they be implemented. You could hunt them and tame like brahmins or buy for lets say 500 caps, and with enough outdoorsman (100?) you could ride it, increasing travell speed. I think it would be really fun and it will bring more western movies clima. Of couse I mean only worldmap travelling, in location map horse should just follow you like brahmin.

What do you think about it?

It was mentioned once, but totaly ignored

o right. sorry, i forgot. This propostion was because I am a fan of postapocalypse in general, where bikes are a funny and climatic idea.
so maybe horses then?

Horse? Where is the climat of mutated post-apocaliptic animals? I'd rather travel on Brahmin than on a Horse in Fallout.
Totally disagree with this suggestion!!

According to the fallout canon horses are extinct.
Also it would need a whole lot of new animation sets and it wouldnt fit in the fallout world.

I really dont see the problem. If you like mutated animals it could be horse with six legs, or with two butts. Maybe you would like riding mole rats or mutated beattle or grasshooper? I prefer horse riding, why all animals have to be mutated? People could save some animals in vaults.

Maybe I dont have whole knowledge about fallout world, but why horses have to be extincted?

Acording to fallout canon people "die after death" and are not reproduced. So even if something contradict fallout canon, it doesnt mean it can be implemented.

Dont get me wrong, adding a bit diversity in the game is great, maybe a bit of a scifi western etc.
But it still has to follow a bit the fallout world. And the writer of the fallout bible decided to make the horses extinct... ;)

Maybe molerats as you said, but as said, I doubt we will see this ingame.

This game needs some cheap mean of transport, like horse. I think molerats should do nicely. You tame molerat and while travelling with your molerat, you gain % increase in travelling speed. But unlike brahmin, you wouldnt be able to store anything in molerat, so brahmins will still be useful.

I still prefer a bicycle. Taming a molerat should require 100% outdoorsman and 6 ST because it is a fierce beast. A bicycle is much easier to do, especially if you know how to make an assault rifle.

Molerat can't be considered as a mount. Neither horse or anything that we have ingame right now. Just imagine that molerat with 80kg guy and his X kg equip on its back. That animal just don't have stamina for such purpose. Only beasts that could fit this job are imho centaurs, desert stalkers and deathclaws. And since they all are wasteland most fearsome and deadliest beasts I doubt they would let you to tame them.

I like this idea but with current bestiary it would look ridiculous no matter what animal you pick for this. Give us some mutated horse or some not so agressive animal and it might work but I doubt this will get ever realized.

Well in fact, molerats are quite huge so I dont see any problems using them. The reason why to use molerats is that devs dont have to make new models or content, just to make molerats tameable and implement algorithm that gives you % speed increase.
But sure, any beast can do.

There are no horses in Fallout universe, they are extinct ; plus it would need too much balance like pathfinder perk (as said above), and worldmap travellign is truly a pain to balance I think =p

I put this into Closed Suggestions as it's against fallout's canon, devs will re-open it if they think it's valuable anyway.

hmm, maybe be able to capture a baby deathclaw, and pretty much using it as a pet, feeding it with meat every few ingame days to advance its size, however, if it does not get fed every 20 ingame days it dies, and when it is fully grown you can mount weapons on it, and ride it into unprotected towns, imagine that, the deathclaw knight order, in metal armour, riding armored deathclaws, carrying powerlances, too fantasyish, maybe, awesome fucking thing to see, yes indeed.
