Turn Based remake for fonline

Propably impossible or too hard but I'm gonna say this anyways.


Turn based could work for Mmorpg like fonline better.

Making something like "global" turns would solve lots of problems. let me explain:
Players enter an encounter. They encountered a group of raiders.
- Turn based mode activates.
Everybody has now 20 seconds to "react" and do all the things they would do in "single player turn based:
after 20 seconds all characters and creatures will do their moves in order from highest sequence to the lowest.

Funny thing: low sequence character ordered his character to attack an other player with higher sequence. Higher sequence player hide himself behind an obstacle. Low sequence player hits the wall(or simply misses)- or maybe don't shot at all and gain AC for unused action points


possible problem?: people moving 1 hex to a window, take 1 aimed shot, hide again at the end of the turn.
possible solution: lower sequence player who ordered his char to shot enemy- but didnt get the chance to take the shot, will recive sequence points due to unused AC- and maybe get the caper next time.
possible solution2: characters and mobs won't be using all the AP imidiently. let's say turns could be divided. 1st part of turn = half AP usage. 2nd part of turn based = second half of AP usage. For example- If aimed shot costs you 7 AP coz you are aiming the eyes- you don't get to shot in the first part of turn(only move if you wanted to move a bit before shot). Once all have used their first 5 ap(did moves or shots-fastshots)- second part of TB begins and all snipers will finally do their eyes aimed shots.

what you guys think? With this system whole turn based would be faster and even possible on BIG maps. Maybe even a separate server for TB and RT?

I think it's a good idea, but it can be hard to do. And realy so much different, did you played Fallout 2 ? It's not like this, realy.

If you want it go play Toribash :s

But I think Turn Based have to be quicker. Like only 15 seconds to play.

yes i have played f1 f2, ft , ftBOS. f3, mods, multiply times.

My heart is simply bleeidng seeing how painful is TB in MMORPG fallout. It has to be redone if we really want to get to CHOOSE between RT and TB. And to reduce time consumption in TB fights. Imagine a TB fight in current system with 30 players. 1 turn = 15 mins or so...

IF this idea would work. 1 turn would take 15 seconds + imidient planned movements and actions even with 30 players on a big map.
Would be sweet if possible to implement :(

nah i dont like it at all, it would be similar to real time just delayed real time...

no, turn based now is more tactical choice, for example you can hit and run a bit so enemy wont hit you then, and with your suggestion it would be just a real time fight which takes more time.

Did you even read the first post?

Situation you described would occur only if after 15 seconds of "global turn" EVERYTHING would start moving and shooting and shit. That would be delayed real time.

I suggested a system that would be highly based on character sequence. Only 1 character moves at a time, before his turn/halfturn ends. After that another guy move with second best sequence to the first guy. so... well.. yeah that IS turn based.

besides, even of you don't like it- it's still a LOT better than current turn based, because simply SINGLE PLAYER turnbased system does not work well with a MMORPG... especially for anything else than small encounters(which still can be a PAIN)

I had similar vision once, +1 if possible to put it into "config"

My vision of config:

combat mode:
Real Time
Fixed Turns/Mixed Turns (Drakonis desribed them in 1st post)
Turn Based 15 sec
Turn Based 30 sec

Ability of choosing between them could satisfy all the players :D

As a general note about combat, it'd be nice to slow RT down at least a little bit. Causing running to drain AP, but not actually cost AP, if that makes sense. Slower AP charging. That kind of thing.

I like turn based, but I quickly become conscious of the fact I'm winning fights by just abusing terrible AI.
