THQ are giving away steam keys. The link below actually routes to a facebook page, so if you can't be bothered with a Steam account and a Facebook account, don't waste your time trying or complaining here.
Also, the link doesn't work on mobile browsers AFAIK.

Quite nice and atmospheric game. Very railroaded though and it doesn't do the book justice. Awesome graphics, especially at the end, that was stunning. Thanks for the link, Gunduz!

The world is set in Moscow, 2033, a couple of years after the war. It is set in the moscow metro (duh), the player has to go through many different metro stations. Mutations of the wildlife occured, so you have to shoot some monsters. Oh, you also shoot Nazis (never gets old) etc. Don't know where you saw Zombies in it, though.

Think of the game as STALKER meets Half-Life. It's pretty much that - you play this Russian dude named Artyom (don't even try to pronounce it if you know nothing about Russian language basics - you will make yourself look like an idiot) based on some book that I haven't read set in a post apocalyptic world where the surface is radiated and stuff. People have taken cover in metro stations however there are still mutants and alike, so you will be going around shooting mutated stuff while also stealthily taking on humans like bandits and such baddies. In some areas, for example the surface, you will need a gas mask. Your gas mask requires filters, these filters can be used up, so you have to keep an eye on your watch to see if your filter is still filtering anything. You can also take off the gas mask because it can break in combat making it useless. If you don't use a gas mask in such areas, you... Well... You die, what else did you think would happen? It is said that ammo is scarce however I have found myself running on 90 shotgun bullets, 60 pistol rounds and a very nice stack of 100+ automatic rifle rounds, full stack of grenades and maxed out throwing knives while barely buying anything. And that is on the hardest difficulty (Well, not really, there are 2 ranger difficulties which remove HUD and make 2 shots lethal to everything - you and your opponents). Also, you get military grade munition which can be used to dish out extra damage with your automatic rifle. But that's not all, these pre-war rounds are also used as a currency in the whole metro system - you can buy new weapons and upgrades, gas mask filters, medkits, grenades, exchange for standard ammo. Also, I did mention medkits. It's kind of a strange design choice, since you do have health recovery just like you'd see it in boring titles like Call of Duty. Medkits take quite a lot of time to inject which means you have to put away your weapon, pull out the syringe and stab it in yourself. It's not that handy, since you can just shoot the enemies and wait in cover for your health to recover. I highly recommend you play the game on higher difficulties or else your enemies will turn into bullet magnetic sponges that seem to die only once they receive a critical amount of mass of lead by which in the laws of physics should make your target explode due to the previously mentioned critical mass.
It's not a perfect game, but it's great. Give it a try. It's free for now, after all.

Hahahaha. I've paid 2,50€ for it on a steam sale and even this I still regret.
Extremely linear, with scripted scenes every 10 meters and the rest of the game is simple shooting. Played it a few hours, then stopped and deinstalled. Sadly, due to this, I even lost the mood to read the book. Probably should have read the book before trying the game.

It's super linear shooter with scripted events, that's what makes it halflife ish. I loved the small details like gasmask lenses fogging up in the cold.
