Why would you (or did you) join the army of your country? Or why didn't/won't you?

Leave your opinion here. :)

my friend from Finland said he was conscripted into service where they kept him and some other kids in a forest for couple of months. now they pay for his housing or something like that. sounds really cool beans except the part about being kidnapped and all.

Risk my life for low pay to murder at the behest of corrupt politicians to placate their corporate masters? Only a fool would agree.

I don't want to be responsible for any murder. Joining an army is already ideologically murder for me.

bu-bu-bu-bu- YER CUNTRY!  YE CUR, SATAN HATH YOU!  BEGONE VILE WHORE!

and so on...   :P  (just in case, I'm being sarcastic)

But I must ask you, what if you got conscripted?  If you don't agree they pretty much either execute you or... well awful stuff.

I think I'd rather put a bullet my own head before I let anyone force me to kill.  If I kill it's going to be my choice.

The fact that my country still has the conscription laws in effect tells me my country ain't worth fighting for.

So no, I would not join the army, unless the pay got better at the very least.

I signed up for basic military training (2 months in a military camp) at the end of those 2 months I could get a contract with the army and become a regular soldier + they'll pay your university + officer exams.  If I get that contract I probably ain't gonna sign it, got some other plans, but if my plans fail, army here I come.

Reasons why I signed was if some big shit arises and my idiotic country gets involved and begins drafting all males from age of 18, its better to have some military training than none. IMO all males should finish some sort of military training, they don't have to become soldiers, just so they know something if war ever happens and they are drafted.

When I got 18, I was already a trainee, this excludes you from mandatory military service in germany until you're done. When I got my job-degree with 21, mandatory military service was removed in germany.

But I would not want to join the military anyway. The only time I would pick up a gun for the bundeswehr is when our country is really threatened (inside the country, border - which will only happen if china begins world-conquering). But not to drive around the ocean hunting pirates or getting killed in the middle-eastern deserts.

Also If you kill a man/woman, you take a away someones father/mother, son/daugther, brother/sister, friend or lover. I don't want that to happen to me, so I would never do it to another human.

You should consider again.
