General scenery thread
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:36:35 pm »

As i know there's a similar thread on NMA, and a whole section on fonline.ru devoted to the graphics, i think it would be good to have a thread for scenery on 2238, too.

Here, one can post own creations or works of others (which should be credited by the poster or by other user, who recognised it), discuss and experiment with art.

I think, i'll start with a image from nyibelunger from NMA, which i edited a bit. (size, palette)

Your lack of pylons is disturbing.

Your lack of pylons is disturbing.

We require more minerals.

I would say the pylon needs to be more rusty and bent. Otherwise it's good. Wouldn't like to stand behind it with my character though.

For Fallout/FOnline scenery, the pylon has wrong perspective (same as in Fallout Tactics).

This is the art sub-forum not tools and modifications so let's care a bit less about it. I'm sick of the perspective discussion anyway.
Some things look good even if the perspective isn't completly right. See screenshots of Surf's 'What Remains' for example.

Thanks, Andr3aZ.
Also, additional pylons.

Graphics have to fit with each other. If they don't, it doesn't matter if a single graphic looks good or not, the whole image will become shit. Especially when it comes to Fallout mods, art style seems to matter for nearly no one - which explains why many look really, really bad. New graphics just for new graphics sake just doesn't cut it.

Take the jeep from first post as example. Alone it looks not bad, but place it between original art somewhere into the game and it *is* bad, because the style doesn't fit.

The pylons look ok, but especially the bended one looks very unnatural and is lacking signs of deteoration.

At least i aint prospering around.
I will see to tweak that pylons when im back from business trip.

Btw, a nice looking casino sign, looks familiar, too. Shinyness isnt a problem, but it needs a bit rugged looks.

Nevermind that it would or wouldn't fit in game, it's still a damn good shot...
I love the way casino neon lights are reflecting in pools, the sign is so colorful and the hooker smoking, that screen really has some of New Reno's harsh "Sin City" charm...
Damn, sometimes I'm angry at myself for not learning programing I would love to create my own, I believe hell'ova good role-play server with so many great ideas in my head  :-\

P.S
the sign looks like it is made of cardboard also it is too shiny for the 2230s.
The sign was created for 6 story building, heard it looks very good used that way...
