Dogs skill

I suggest for having a dog in party to get perk Awareness and +10% outdoors or something.
What are your thoughts on this?

Dogs could track sneakers.

How is a dog gonna tell you if this guy or what not is hurt?  Getting awareness perk from dog doesn't make sense.

dogs give a bonus to OD? Did I read that right?

@op:
Yeah as has already been said getting awareness from a dog makes absolutely no sense.

I do like avv's idea however. I am for anything that can make "low level" stuff (like dogs instead of rocket launcher mercs) useful for big fights and all that.

Wolves single out the wounded for attack.

A trained dog perhaps could "point" to wounded, bark a certain way, etc.

So Awareness could make sense.

Telling the name of player from WM alert is a bit much though. That is more like having a good face memory and observing someone from a vantage point (simulated by good OD plus Awareness).

My bad guys, what I've meant instead of Awareness is actually Cautious Nature.
I was paying attention to the actual word meaning instead of what that perk does.

So what do you think about Cautious Nature <------------------ for dogs?

It does make better sense, but I still wouldn't do it.  Getting a perk just for the price of a dog seems a bit much.  Maybe a specially trained dog, one that costs 10x as much as a regular dog might be okay.... but still getting an extra perk just doesn't seem right.

Dog could be able to locate people (sneakers), demolition and drugs if we want to boost them. However personally I think the outdoorsman boost is enough.

Dogs have a base amount of Outdoorsman skill like any other NPC. I have never heard a dev say they give +50 OD. It's either your skill is higher, or the dogs skill is higher.

But I agree there should be some type of scout dogs, that have really good outdoorsman, or do make it so your OD is boosted while traveling. The Cautious Nature perk add-on sounds good too, and that's even if it works correctly. And avv's idea is good too, it could be that dogs have high PE, and could see any sneaking player, within 10 or 20 hexes, regardless of the sneak formula, and start running toward them (if their combat options are set like that).

Dog should give you perception.

If you are not PvP ape, you have to invest some SP into Charisma. So my idea is, that if you take dog as your companion, you will get bonus to your perception.

Because i dont exactly know, how many companion points (or how it is named) you will need after wipe, i suggest that charisma investment should be quite higher, than you PE bonus from dog, but it should be reasonable amount. (i.e. dogs need cca 3 charisma, you you will get 2 PE bonus).

You can obtain this bonus after reachong certain level of outdoorsman, so no lvl 1 bonuses.

PVP apes will not take dogs, because it is very vulnerable and they will rather invest directly into Perception. No PvP apes will be glad that they can see PKs.

Real life comparsion: 1) Perception is not only sight. There are other senses. 2) Hunters often uses dogs to support its own perception.

Do we play the same game? There is already a dog that gives you high OD  but it has a very low hp and from what I have seen he is a better fighter the the regular dog but it has 10-20 hp so not that useful. Now for the Cautious nature part... well its balancet do to hp assuming that we are talking about the scouting dog at 10-20 hp one hit and he is dead, even a molerat could kill him in 2-3 hits. When I start a new char I like to buy one to bust my OD until I get it to high lvls but I cant protect him so I am getting to the point  were I spend to much money on dogs (they die to quickly).
It could be nice if the dogs gets perks like the player (every 3 lvls) The scout dog could get OD perks like Explorer, Cautious Nature, Pathfinder. As for balance, it already has low hp and it takes out companion slots and good luck on keeping him alive  ;D As for lvling him same thing "good luck on keeping him alive  ;D" Lets say you get the dog to lvl 21...BAM! a pk comes and kills you and the dog and all that hard work on lvling him goes out the toilet and it hurts it hurts really bad.

Dog: "Hey Swag there's a guy over there, Combat Armor and a LSW... his hp is 159/180

Swag: "Hey thanks... but I already knew that, and where did you come from? I have 1 CH..."

Dog: "Ummm... I'm the Pariah Dog"

It is that damn bad luck dog.
