Mercs Shoot Thieves Stealing From Them
« on: June 13, 2011, 09:22:20 pm »

Visit NCR with a merc or two... dumbass trolls who wouldn't normally steal from an armed person with sense on his shoulders, knows the loophole regarding mercs, and how you can steal from them safely without any consequences...

I suggest that merc AI be improved with self defense from thieves within towns. It's quite a bitch that during the loadtime upon entering NCR, that some troll can steal from a merc without any worry...

Suggested.  I'm pretty sure they attack "Caught" thieves, so as they dont get killed by gaurds.

Maybe the mercs should attack only if the thief failed. I mean, if the thief did not fail, they shouldn't even know they have been stolen from.

Also I think it'd be cool if they activated "Get out of my face, punk!" kind of comments when a player is sciencing them :P

Yeah, I remember how the slave would attack the thief, and then die by guards, too. Either make the merc only attack if it knows the thief is unprotected, or dialogue could possibly be added to make the merc/slave say something like "Hey! ____! Get back here!" "Where the hell did my stuff go!" or something like that when the thief fails, so that other people know that he is unprotected.

This is a good suggestion, I like this point.

Well I watched as thief, in broad daylight, in the front of my merc... not behind, not in sneak mode... stole stuff off my merc..

So are the chances of him noticing just surprisingly low?  I think it's ridiculous...

"Hey HauntedSoul, watch me as I steal from right in front of your merc"

-merc stands still and allows this to happen...

"ahahaha"

Obviously someone knows they're abusing some kind of system here?

Unless your merc has an M60, and the thief runs near a guard :(

Well it makes perfect sense that if someone successfully manages to steal from your merc he would not attack because, A - the merc would not have noticed and B - guards would kill him if the thief was successful and he attacked.

But perhaps a way to make mercs a little safer with goods is to be able to tell them to keep something in their off-hand (kind of like what is planed for BOS to keep people from stealing off them) with some kind of "keep this secret, keep this safe" dialogue :P However that would only work with one item (maybe they just do it automatically with the ammo for the weapon they are using?) so you would still need to be careful but i guess it would be an improvement.

Alternatively perhaps if you are close enough your own perception could make a roll when they are being thieved so there is a better chance the thief will be caught at which point the merc will act.

Either way it is just as much your job to keep them safe in town as it is in the waste. Remember you can always tell them to move if you catch someone messing with them.

Nope.  1hex, bluesuit, m60 = pwned

No chance for thief to move faster than the merc.

(ofc unless he has 200 HP and 2x Toughness.)
