Reduce the chance on X vs. Y vs. Z encounters
« on: April 05, 2011, 10:41:34 pm »

I think there are way too many encounters with multiple groups. In some areas it's not uncommon to encounter up to four groups at a time.

Arguments to reduce the chance to get into encounters with multiple groups:

realism:
- Stumbling upon a group should be far more likely than to stumble upon two groups fighting. Not to mention three or more groups. It's just logical: raiders are not fighting 12 hours per day, so when you stumble upon them, they should be alone most of the time.

game play:
- too easy to farm weapons without any risk, because the NPCs not always loot all their victims. Of course you should be able to get gear from encounters, but "wait and loot when the fight is over" is just lame.
- TB turns can take forever if you encounter multiple groups. (don't you hate it to run into 4 groups of ghouls and than realize that you're still in TB mode?)

What I suggest
- 80% of all encounters you encounter 1 group
- 15% of all encounters you encounter 2 groups
- 4 % of all encounters you encounter 3 groups
- 1 % of all encounters you encounter 4 groups or more

Percentages may vary per sector:  some sectors are more densely populated than others.

Fun as in waiting to see who's left and than kill the remains for the loot?
Knowing as in where to go to find the best farmeable encounters?

You seem to have missed the point of this suggestion.
Such encounters not being a challenge is one of the points of this suggestion.

I agree with this suggestion.

fun of blastin a rocket in a pile of enemies will drastically decrease :(

But if it is blanced it would be ok. like

50% 1 group
30% 2 groups
15% 3 groups
5%   4 groups

well me personally like big encounters, hell i love them bullets blasting everywhere you need good reaction and watch who to hit first/next etc. When you play in multiple free for all battle tactics come in to play, you need to weaken one group or another to triumph in the end, hell i like this and i would hate that to be changed. I would only think that big encounters should be more easy to avoid, since even blind guy could hear bullets blasting from a km away.

Yeah, awesome tactics, waiting for one group to overwhelm the other to receive free loot.

hell no, for example you see that 3 mutans, or like 7 yakuzas will win the fight, and you will be fucked right after, you need to cut off groups strength in equal proportions, so that the very weak would survive. And sometimes the other groups are attacking you, while you need to weaken different group, thus it makes you whole situation difficult. Of course if people live in ncr with other homos, and most they encountered are ncr caravan/army/rangers in these cases it is free loot indeed, but i dont think that people playing under these conditions should make suggestions for whole games neither 8)

i voted no and heres my opinion:

realism< gameplay

easy to farm? maybe in tb but not in rt

i presume ( i might be wrong) you are a tb person, but in rt all those arguements lose weight

also verdaras as a point

vedaras is telling da truth!
In general im trying to kill the whole encounter, even friendly NPCs, so I have to be tactical in whom I dissable first and get my position right.

If you go the internet tough  guy route and spice your arguments with stuff like "homos" then you might aswell don't post at all.

And what's your excuse?  I see you trolling everywhere lately.

p.s. the idea makes sense to be honest.  I once questioned how there is so many people and life in the "Wasteland" once.  Can't remember what happened to that.

They had squares get "depleted" for a while, and it didn't work out.

So maybe all the killing creates a vaccuum that attracts animals, raiders, etc. from surrounding areas.
Plus the flow has been established long enough that it has become an instinctive migration direction for mantii, molerats, etc. along with traveler's tales of the good looting to be had in California/Nevada area.

So it is like a Black Hole of death and rebirth.

Otherwise known as an "eco-system". But yeah, that would be a interesting feature - once someone grinds the same species over and over, other species will temporarily fill up those tiles as they eat and multiply from eating all the dead corpses of the animals you slaughtered.
