Sneak should help you to sneak through encounters also
« on: March 31, 2011, 07:58:01 pm »

Playing as sneaker gave me an idea. In many encounters npcs doesnt even see you when you spawn so maybe they dont need to spot you at all? Well as outdoorsman helps you to spot and avoid encounters, sneak skill should help you to avoid encounters. I dont know about fonline, but in f2 there was "WorldMapEncounterRate" value which determined how often you were encountered. So i think it would be great if sneak skill (if turned on) would modify that worldmap encounter rate in that way (multiply/divide/plus/minus) that it would lower chance to get an encounter.  (sneak would have no effect in fighting/avoiding option check if you are encountered after all). So what do you think about that (and dont forget to vote)? :>

low sneak help at encounters in rt (helped me with BoS vs mutants, i hide, loot mutant or BoS, run like crazy far away from npc and hide again=they stop follow me, and meh start loot again and same).
same with run fast sneak and walk to exid grid with low sneak.

Agreed with the suggestion! It's sensible, logical, and doesn't need more alts - in fact, since there's less need for an additional taxi, it would make players with sneaker character to cheat less(multi log).

I disagree unless one count is added; if sneaking on the world map you move much more slowly, there has to be a trade off.

Yes, it does make sense, but it renders OD a bit useless

even tho sneak needs ~300 to be useful and ~120 on OD is already good, there's the thing where sneak would be good for world map AND combat (or avoiding it) and od only for world map

If sneak gets buff on worldmap, shouldn't outdoorsman get buff in combat?

Based on evidence collected from various sources by trustworthy attendees it is undisputed veritability that the land ravaged by atomic warfare which caused extreme change of the ecosystem and environmental hazards can be considered unpleasant, rugged and unforgiving.

I think all the non-combat skills should.

Doctor gives you a living anatomy-esque perk by default.
Repair gives your armour bonus damage resistance.
Outdoorsman gives you a HP bonus.
Speech gives your mercs a bunch of combat bonuses.

I have thought through none of these, they're just random examples. Obviously the 'skill perks' have a greater effect the higher the skill.

dont forget that outdoorsman gives you exp for avoided encounters, sneak wouldnt give you nothing, you would just be less spotted by npc critters. I dont consider that as a bonus, its more like a logical conclusion for sneak skill :> (because as i said in first post, you appear sneaked and enemies dont see you, so how can you get encountered by them if they didint see you?)

I think the same. All (or at least all popular) skills should give some more advantages.
Maybe you'll make a topic in a suggestion board for that?

I'm not sure. Posting suggestions isn't really my style. I'll have a think, see what I can come up with tomorrow.

Repair gives armor-fixing, so relative armor levels already give a net bonus to repairers.

Outdoorsman could increase healing rate very slightly as well as AP regen very slightly due to the physical conditioning that comes from being an outdoorsman.

Living Anatomy already presumes that knowing where to hit in a surgical sense translates to the agility and skill necessary to make some kind of mystical targeted shot.
Makes sense in "game terms", but not realistically.

Speech could make mercs less buggy (fix the merc bugs, but implement the fix as a gradient influenced by speech).
Giving them combat bonuses wouldn't make much sense unless the merc commander had some special skill or insight to share with the mercs, in which case Speech would help with the transfer of that information.

There'll soon be skill-related quests (for instance a quest only repairsmen can take etc) which net you certain perks and stuff by solving the respective ones.
