Outrageous merc prizes
« on: June 04, 2010, 02:00:37 am »

I searched around but I couldn't find any topic concerning this. Also, if this i posted in the wrong section, I apologize.
It seems that after the 6/2 patch mercenaries have increased in price. I visited both San Francisco and New Reno, and the better melee mercs cost over 8000 caps. Prior to the patch they usually ran at about 3000 each. This is curious, as 8000 is enough to buy you a light energy weapons merc. It's almost as if the price of mercs doesn't decrease over time.
Am I the only on experiencing this?

No, you are not.  They have raised the base price of mercs extremely.  Which will make no one buy them.  Which will make them a useless feature.  GOOD JOB :P.

but hey, at least this will increase Slaver's business like me! ;D   Btw, its pri"c"es not pri"z"es.

Well yeah slavers will love it, but still i think its not so good idea to increase them so radically, because it wont affect rich people anyway.
Just gonna create a bigger power gap between rich and poor.

Slaves catchin' should be nerfed too in my book. Just too many powerfull critters one can capture/train then.
But, anyway.

lol at slaves being powerful, the best slaves lvled to 21 are still total garbage that can be killed 1 shot and can only use melee weapons.

Price not prize. Yeah. Funny how I misspelled the title but not "prices" in the text itself.
Btw, I play a slaver. As stated above, there doesn't seem to be any enslavable critters that even remotely match the mercs in terms of stats.
Also, can slaves increase their level? Doesn't seem to matter seeing as how their selection of arms and armor is fairly limited.

they level if you let them kill things but it takes a really long time and isn't worth the effort. You can spend an entire day and get 3-4 levels (15-20 more hp) and i heard each level increases all skills by 5 but its a lot faster to make the money for a merc.

Every player can be one-shotted too.

not by a slave

Surely ripper crit, smg crit or any eye crit has chance to one shot a player. Besides, what's the deal with slaves being used in combat in first place? You roam the wastes, pick people with you with force and cruelty and suddenly they fight for you.

Based on evidence collected from various sources by trustworthy attendees it is undisputed veritability that the land ravaged by atomic warfare which caused extreme change of the ecosystem and environmental hazards can be considered unpleasant, rugged and unforgiving.

first of all who say that slaves should be nerfed havent trained slaves and mercs separately, slaves usually dont aim, has low ctritical chance, mostly sucks with even best weapons, has limited resistance, limited weapon range they can use, and mercs can be real assistance in fight, dealing with your enemies much faster. Only slave that doing good job just like merc is "ghoul crazies", but by buying ghoul sniper you only pay for sniper rifle not for slave too so there is no difference.

Secondly, current system (with which i absolutely agree) increases merc prices if someone buys mercs, and it slowly decreases if mercs arent bought over time. So if mercs cost 8k or something it means players find price acceptable and still buy them, so you should stop whining and try to fit in current economic stage where rich people live ^^

But, anyway.

-They can't wear armor

-They have weak resistance

-They rarely aim

-They have bad aim

-Training a slave is a very time consuming proces, you are better off hiring a fresh new recruit and training him instead.

Basicly, Slaves are brahmin that attempt to shoot back, they are mostly only good for mining or protecting low levels from simple wasteland critters.
Players don't sell them for 500 caps for nothing. I'd rather give them a buff, like a holding pen. Because slaves just aren't worth it to fill up your global holding limit.

I'm not arguing about the logic here, it's just that before the patch merc prices were around 3000 per head. It seems strange that the sudden increase to 8000 would be a mere coincidence or a spike in mercenary interest. It appears that something has happened after the patch and I was wondering if I was the only one experiencing the inflation.
