Forum "profanity" filters.
« on: February 20, 2010, 10:00:44 pm »

It would be very nice if this forum software supported replacing some set words by others. Much like the old NMA sub-forum had.
I'm sure a lot of people will be confused and consider it going overboard (I do not, but hey, I'm being tolerant now) to use what NMA used. So I'm suggesting a simple "fix dumb words" filter that will just replace words with correct ones, but slightly highlighted in the event that it's an error, so that others can guess what it should be.

u - you (beige is a second-best colour, but it may be not noticeable enough)
ur - your (this'll be problematic, but screw them. At least this doesn't make my eyes bleed)
people - people (p p l but it got replaced :d)

And some more if you find any that annoy you.

Don't know why it's so hard using correct grammar etc. , sometimes it's a pain in the ass to read posts with "anyone", "cuz", "people", "pwn" etc. , or posts with a lack of commas and point-marks. Usually I don't even take one person serious if he doesn't give a fuck about writing correctly. So this "feature" on NMA is ok I think, but it would just lead to whining on the forum here if it's getting implemented.

We have such things already, but "words" like "u" or "ur" could easily be something else too. So it's not really possible to add a filter to it.

And yes, I hate it too and jump over every post where I see this.

You activated those filters or so, because I wrote "p p l" as an explanation and now there's "people".  :P
And without the usual eplanation in those "  [   ] " things like on NMA, so that the post isn't ripped apart.
Good! :)

As for "u" and "ur" please give me an example of what else they could be used for? Math problems?
That's why highlighting them with beige or yellow will allow others to know if it was on purpose or not.

Anyways filters would make the ESL posts even less comprehensible.
