A suggestion to improve role playing.
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:27:13 pm »

We already have a filter to change stupid characters words in to even dumber words.

But what if we take it a step further?

My suggestion, is if someone types "lol" or any form of it, like lulz, or "umadbro?" or things like that, that they will suddenly explode with the force of 300% traps skill TNT.

This should help keep people from being random trolls, and at least disallow them to troll with that.

I think we have a winner here!

if the explosion doesn't get passed (and i hope it does) then these phrases could at least be changed to something more RP

lol or lulz = /e HAHAHAHA
noob, n00bie, noobnoob = rookie or youngblood

etc.

wasteland terminology instead of troll terminology

Am I right to assume that this explosion would only effect the one who used the troll term?

Personally I would like to see something like that still the /o (out of character text) should be exception out of character the player should type whatever nonsense he wants.

I love rolelplaying, but I think that force other players to roleplay is not right. Would be better to find some way to "defend" roleplaying from trolls without making RP a must.

I think that Jotisz's suggestion allows for both.

'lol' triggering '/e hahahaha' actually benefits everyone as a sort of shortcut.

if you really would prefer to say 'lol' instead then you can do it the long way; /o lol

I think this would benefit people more than annoy them. i mean whats better than simply typing lol to have your character actually laugh out loud?

in the same way variations of noob can be a shortcut for calling someone a rookie, a young-blood, or an amateur. Each variation could trigger a different word.

I think people usually use troll language because they are too lazy to type the way that a wastelander would speak. I don't see how this should really give them any reason to be angry, especially if they have the 'out of character speak' option which people who are RPing can take as a que to just ignore that person.

What a cheap suicide bomber it would make if gets implemented.
Why do you even care what others write as long as it is not offensive ?
And what do you do if I start trolling in my mother language ?
Or who decides what words should and shouldnt be allowed ?

1 angry person so far...

I think the original post was a bit of a joke, no?

The way i'm thinking about it is not that these words are not allowed (as they could still be used with /o) but they get translated from insta-txt speak to wasteland speak.

Whats the problem with that?

Lazy people should be happy they don't need to type coherently in order for their characters to speak coherently.
