So I just joined this game yesterday, still figuring things out. (n00b warning) After dieing a few times I got some luck and was able to loot some raiders that a patrol of guards had killed. Went to Gecko to look for a quest and someone said that there was an easy newbie quest over in Modoc to deliver Jerky. So I looked up the wiki and found that quest was given by Grisham.

Looked all over Modoc and finally found Grisham.... dead.

=( Doh. Is he supposed to be dead? Do NPC's get perma-killed in this game or was it a mistake or is that a fake body and Grisham is really alive and well but hiding someplace else? He was dead last night and I thought, "Oh maybe he'll respawn later or something," but he is still dead this morning.

please help/explain.

He will respawn for sure. If im not wrong his respawn time is 60 real min.
Meanwhile you can bring shovel for ghoul in Gecko, deliver 2 rad scorion tails for dude in modoc and so on: quests
If You wont take reward you will get more exp.

Be warned both those towns are ungaurded which means any player can blow you away if they so wish.  As apposed to Vault City or NCR where they will just pickpocket you blind, maybe shop shoot you, or follow you out of town... Really just avoid contact with any other player sadly lol.
