Title: Beginner's Protection
Post by: Kieran96336 on June 29, 2010, 01:02:44 pm
Just wondering aas it would help a lot of beginners to the game as i've only been playing an hour or two and already died about 6 times, which really does ruin the game.

NO , wasteland is harsh

sadly your poll is flawed. it's on the forum, most new players only come here for a second to bitch about how stupid the game is and then never log in again.

voted yes anyway. when i started i lost so much shit in the one pixel between NCR and my tent. particularly guns and ammo books and other hard to replace items, always by PKers, just turning off player encounters for the first week would be enough to fix the game.

You encounter scorpions, radscorpions and 'random player'.
you: peace?
random player: okay
you were critically hit in the eyes for 2948298 hit points and were killed
random player: LOL thats a good crit
random player: soz bro, wasteland is harsh (while stroking his dick) oh oh yeah oh wasteland is so harsh oh oh yes yes oh its so harsh oh its getting harsher oh i'm almost there oh oh god yes its so harsh PK me PK me! PK ME HARSHER! OH YEA DON'T STOP Oh oh oh... oh

yah than u have people abuse this lvl1 invunerability with stealing, sucicde bombing as if this isnt bad enough now. This community should really rise to help takecare of noobies imo, not have the game developers implement protection for noobs. The big problem facing noobs is that they have no way to store their stuff so dying means losing everything. I have made > 10 chars highest lvl is 3, all broke and homeless. 2 of them still ban by the GMs with their excellent fastlogin detection.

No.

No "noobs protection", "newbie towns", "1-lvl godmode" or other stupidity. If you can't play it without Guardian Angel, then simply don't play.

And to store your stuff there is a tent, made from 10 brahmin hides.

Implying prevailing non-friendly-to-newbies policy :>

Id rather see something more sophisticated, I know its all unfallouty, but it isnt even a bit pro joy of play. I know that wasteland is harsh, but consider one thing: Since the wipe theres a division of Hq & normal minerals which excluded mining alts and improved the game for the elite people but worsened it for loners, newbies, low-lvls where no armor is in the shop because of ridiculous requirements (LAmk2) made of boosted (2 times hp of golden gecko) animals.

Im against fake newbie policy, Id rather see boost in low-tier armors and lesser requirements... you hardly kill/see/get killed with an armour on, compare that to prewipe, everyone got something on, now not, PKrs have a heaven right now and I think devs have all lvls 21 :p

If you want to help newbies ingame just do it, the mechanic is right there.

Well I like the all "deal with it. wasteland is harsh."  ;D Just I dont know what other MMO is like that. Or we preserve "being different" policy :p. The gameplay is ok for lvl 21 but thats not the same for starting ones. If lvl 21's could have their boosted hp npcs because it was too booring why cant some lower lvl group have easier life as well? This question haunts me in the night when I read this forum  :-\

Lol, landslide victory for No.
And for a good reason.
Wasteland is tough, you should get used to it early on.
Good learning experiences etc.

where no armor is in the shop
I suggest move out of NCR a bit south, to Hub, and visit Jacob at Old Town. If you can't find any armor there, I'll give you 5 of LA Mk2 for free.
PKrs have a heaven right now and I think devs have all lvls 21 :p
PKrs have a heaven anytime they can shoot to pixels, and having 21 lvl is not impossible, even if you play casual, once-twice per week.
Just I dont know what other MMO is like that. Or we preserve "being different" policy :p.
That's because Fallout is unique. Enough said.
The gameplay is ok for lvl 21 but thats not the same for starting ones. If lvl 21's could have their boosted hp npcs because it was too booring why cant some lower lvl group have easier life as well?
Again - move from NCR, it's not Wasteland SimCity.
You can easily find low-hp NPCs anywhere. And there is no diminishing XP from long time now, so gaining experience is easier.

I find it stupid some people that say "they should get used to it the wasteland is harsh" but think about how many people have thought 'fuck this game , I cant be assed to play a game where I die every few minutes' which is what i have heard from a lot of people, but instead of a protection I have came up with another idea that doesn't make invulnerable newbies or give advantages to them. A simple tutorial at the beginning would give a world of help, and yes I know theres a manual but with most games a tutorial helps a lot more as you are getting experience from the game rather than words on a piece of paper. So then I truly think a tutorial at the beginning as now I have begun to estabilish myself. But I didn't even know about a tent until I saw on the forums and by god it didn't even have any hint of how to make it as not in a million years would i have guessed how to make it. So yet again the forums came to the rescue. But this could be cleared up with a simple tutorial. Now the comments of 'The Wasteland is harsh. Get used to it', No actually for most players it is 'I don't have a clue how to play this or what to do. Let's go over here. Oh look someone called ******. BANG. And your dead within a minute of starting.'

Check the wiki.  When I started playing, I got started rather quickly.  Dying is just a learning experience every time.  Just trudge through it, and you'll feel a sense of achievement having gotten where you are without being babied.  And then you will say to the noobs, "The wasteland is harsh, get used to it."
I think the system is perfect as it is.
If you want information, you have to seek it out yourself instead of having it spoon-fed to you.

No I know that it's that a tutorial would help people get used to game. Instead of doing what I had to do which was OMG what's this click on forums search oh its nothing of use to me. Yes I have left behind my noobish remnants as I have now estabilished myself. however I am still not going to turn around to noobs and say ' The wasteland is harsh' as it's not the wasteland it's the interface of the game as it gives no help at all you have to either learn the controls and how to play fast otherwise you're a dead man. It's not the wasteland anyway i've set up a new poll for a tutorial to help at the beginning so i will have this thread closed shortly.

Keeps most people out ;D.

fixed

shouldn't have to alt+tab to a website to know what to do in a game.. and then of course read "wasteland is harsh, get used to it or don't play" most people choose the second option after losing all their items to a pker, bomber, glitched guard, marauders or thief

What ever happened to asking players in-game what to do?  Most people will be happy to oblige and give you information or even some items if you're new.  Worked well for me.

All I ever got was a free mauser....

But thats because I had too much pride too ask  ::), I wanted to prove I could survive in the wasteland.

Well a possible fix for noobs is to make a starter quest so noobs can get their first tent. Since game is full loot, having that first tent is very impt. From personal experience when I started playing Fonline, I died alot, made new chars, and they also died fast. Some chars got lucky and looted radio, guns, caps, but died and lost them all cuz lvl 1 char running around u dont survive. Even if u go to the guarded towns, thief's, sucide bombers etc.. will get u killed.

After 2 weeks of senseless dying, I got my tent now the game is easier and more enjoyable.

I'm sick of these whiners.  The challenge at the beginning is what made this game so fun for me.  Knowing that I wans't protected and that I could be killed by damn near anything.  The challenge was great.
