In theory - yes, but making transparency version of all interface mods isn't a good solution IMHO. We try to find a way to "mix" different graphical mods (and maybe create some tools for that), and soon we post few ideas/suggestions (main idea needs very little engine change).

Make sure to remove any old /existing GUI mod by moving 'Misc' and 'Intrface' folder out of the art directory in fonline install.  Do that before running FOnline-TransparencyMod installer program.

Edit: Item does not appear in active hand slot.

I got problem when using this mod and using aimed shot (high transp.) - sometimes (not always) the game messes up and I see everything like this:
(http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/884/screen16072010214259.jpg) (http://img704.imageshack.us/i/screen16072010214259.jpg/)
In RT I sure would get killed with this kind of vision... also worldmap is not white like that but on the contrary dark as Lynettes...
After client restart all is normal again.

Before someone goes asking, yes, I did make those Obj/Item replacing in the default.ini.

Hmm the weirdest thing... the bug still exists even when totally uninstalled the game, deleted the whole folder and installed it again without this mod.
The bug triggers every time I do aimed shot now... Even weirder is that apparently it wasn't happening yesterday (I did not modify anything).
Everything (every window too) is half transparent as you can see on the screenshot, just the worldmap is dark.
(http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7758/screen20072010112515.jpg) (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/screen20072010112515.jpg/)

Do you think I should post it to the Bug section, or does the mod do some changes which can prevail even after totall reinstall? (registry modification?)

EDIT:
After some discussion on IRC, I found out this bug is not related to this MOD so don't fear to use it!

I thinks it's GmapPTownViewPic but i don't see the normal green delta in your screenshot .. look strange.
Change it in default.ini (yeah it's everywhere) of your interface and check in other ini files (if present) if they don't use these variable too => You can check with last normal ini files what was added/deleted versus your interface ini files.(need to be cleaned)
If it don't work you will have a picture in your interface folder that's that menu, if it's right check what variable use this picture to fix it.

You can check example of this "old" problem here :http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=5489.0 (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=5489.0)
(if it can help a little)

good luck.

Go to your Fonline folder, there will be Transparency application icon or sth and you set the values, save and run the client :)

The mod is outdated, you have to wait for update which probably won't be anytime soon (if ever), unless someone else than the WHINE team will take care of it, because the original authors are busy with other stuff / life / holidays / whatever.

No intention to annoy anyone, but after using some custom interfaces (really cool btw, their creators did a good job) I've decided to return to the custom interface. It's a shame this mod is not available anymore, as it was imo the best balance between being faithful to the original and playing the online version in a more confortable way :P so if anyone has the time and the will to bring it again, it would be really awesome.
Title: Re: Transparent Interface Mod 0.2
Post by: Lexx on April 29, 2011, 10:36:08 am
Making a new transparent interface mod isn't that hard. One only has to edit the interface shader file to create a transparent effect-- No need to edit any graphics. I don't know how to do it, though.
Title: Re: Transparent Interface Mod 0.2
Post by: Doctor Eex on April 29, 2011, 10:41:40 am
I't very easy. All you need to unpack default interface and make what you need to be transparent in GIMP for example (it's freeware)

You don't need to use shaders or whatever, just to modify *.png
Or, more simple - take them from this mod and replace default ones.

about 10-30 mins of work
Title: Re: Transparent Interface Mod 0.2
Post by: Lexx on April 29, 2011, 10:46:34 am
Yea and if you can write a shader, it's 1 minute of work with only 1 file involved for every interface element. :p

Hmm, if you want to get every element interface transparent :)
How shader will determine what to do transparent and what not to do?
Title: Re: Transparent Interface Mod 0.2
Post by: JovankaB on April 29, 2011, 11:14:50 am
Dunno about shaders but if you just make all graphics 50% transparent with one command, the final effect will suck. It's not that easy to make it look good.

Some graphics overlap so you will see what's behind, many parts took a lot of work to make them look good (aim window critters, character info screen).
Also some specific parts of background graphics are slightly less transparent to improve readability (window edges, text on windows, button parts and so on).

So if you think it's just a matter of pushing some button "make all 50% transparent" and you will have the same outcome as in WHINE mod, you are wrong  ;D

This stuff is still laying in mod folder, so i guess best will be to add what was done after last version and make it working... again. Fact that our first creation still have unfinished status is like sand in the eye for me :-\
Thanks to lack of time it's impossible to say if it will be tomorrow, next week or after server update, so don't hold your breath.

That's why I said it is better to adapt this mod to modern faction.ini  ;)

Even better is not touch default/faction.ini at all, and use own separated .ini - it makes installation (and uninstallation, if we talk about that) process of any mod much simpler.

Enforcing whole interface, when you need to change only few elements is just wrong.

Not coming, at least not from me. Dunno about other ex-WHINE, but AFAIK most of them are busy with other stuff.

Honestly for me the default interface is quite terrible and simply I'm not interested doing this again.

Especially that there are better interfaces now and when we were doing this there was none.

But the custom interfaces are all green transparent space-age orbs. Did the game structure change with some update that the interface cannot be transparent? :(
