Title: Generic MMO quests
Post by: Mike Crosser on March 17, 2013, 11:19:02 pm
This is a bit of a autism only kind of thing but what the hell.

Here is how it goes:
1.Go to quest giver A
2.Receive quest and get teleported/travel to a special quest location
3.Kill creatures X that drop the item Z Y amount of times
4.Go back to quest giver after you have the necessary amount of Z items
5.Receive award of 1000 bottle caps

5 easy steps for simple, grindtastic, quests that will make no lifes have something to do.
Add about 7 of these in each major town and it's done.

I know this sounds retarded as hell but some MMO players just seem to like grinding, normal people can't explain it,they just do.

Well this is an MMO ain't it.
And grind is sort of the only thing that keeps people playing this and indeed most if not all MMOs.

That kinda cripples ones character.
With that whole rep and tatto thing.

This is something for neutral players to make a quick buck without having to travel to the Den and risk having to loose their blue pajamas.

You need money, you create an alt, isnt it?
And then there is crates lifting, shit shoveling, courier quests, book fetching, craft selling, water bringing...
Not very profitable like slaving, but present.

Its a good idea but people in this game are so set that this game has to be "harsh lol" so they don't want repeatable quest because that would give newbies a chance.

But aren't alts something we are trying to reduce,no?

Besides lifting boxes and shoveling crap isn't really something a person would find so interesting.

While let's say clearing out a cave full of raiders that drop randomly generated loot would be something that multiple people would find entertaining and would be profitable.
Maybe even some deathclaws,or just some rats if you are noob who uses a shovel as a primary weapon.

Yes doing odd jobs in the Hub can get you some caps, maybe even a gun.But you will eventually have to use that gun.Otherwise it's just pocket decoration.

edit:

Its a good idea but people in this game are so set that this game has to be "harsh lol" so they don't want repeatable quest because that would give newbies a chance.
Not sure if serious or just acting like an ass.

Caving and scavenging are also available. Or are you complaining about the prize not worth the effort unlike slaveruns?

The "cave" was just an example,it doesn't have to be cave it can be a farm or a scrapyard or anything, what I am suggesting here i simple:
Go there, kill that,go back get money

I know there are other quests like this, the problem is there should be more quests like this IMO.

The suggestion is flawed and I see it,but it has a leg to stand on even if it is just a pegleg.

Why suggest a existing feature, then?
Or, why not working the suggestion out instead of just admitting that it sucks and doing it anyway?

Because I know that the things I want are not similar to those things everyone else wants, otherwise I would have suggested alien plasma cannons to replace 10mm pistol.

I want to first see the response then change the suggestion as I go along.

And yeah it exists but not in the desired form.

I like it. Either that or rework (the rewards of) existing grindquests.

We used to have the ants quest in sf but then the reward was nerfed  ;D

People used to make ant-alts because it had a cooldown.

No.
Who are you trying to deceive? It's already implented in form of slaver runs.

Yet it is not what he suggests.

I don't see an issue with buffing quests a little bit, in terms of putting in more combat challenges and more loot. As it stands power-PvE on the world map is much more efficient for obtaining loot--thus it's not a matter of the quests being 'exploitable' as much as players having little incentive for doing them at all.

Go there, kill that,go back get money

Or raw materials, or other basics. This idea is beautiful in it's simplicity and would be a helluva lot better than shit-shoveling or box-lifting, tasks that keep you locked in one place.

Exactly the problrm. I think 1000 caps is excessive, maybe swap out half for XP, but otherwise a fairly good idea.
Maybe tie it to karma somehow, too. Not so many caps if you're a known troublemaker in town.

Its a good idea. The ones avialible, get old, though the Dog quest in adytum can be fun. See how many dogs you can take out in 1 burst.

Each city needs something like adytum has with the Feral dog packs quest.
