The new idea of junk gathering is very cool and climatic, i ilke it very much. But how come- I've been searching ruins for 30 inutes already and I still haven't found any junk... This way junk, which is widely used in crafting, will soon become the most precious resource of our Postapocalyptia!
We need more junk in ruins!
Who is with me?!
-
i'm down with that man.
my first hour was spent on getting 3 junk..
-
ok nearly after 45 minutes i have found 2 piles of junk... and guess what? I had to fight for it! Against some Russian crafter guy...
this is riddiculous!
-
this is riddiculous!
Prewipe "waiting in front of the junk barrel afk and click on it every few seconds" was ridicolous.
The new system is fine.
-
i agree i like it but there is to little junk in the ruins, this system is certainly better than previous one, but still...

Not being able to lvl because you can't find mats for a 10mm pistol is not "fine".

Its awesome!

well fighting the poor rusian crafter off my junk was fun but in the longer duration it is boring... how ever i have noticed that i don't need junk for ammo, thats good!
-
i like it, provided all materials are as difficult to get, mad max style.
-
style, atmosphere, fluff... all is cool but sometimes unplayable... for now i stop whining for more junk, as maybe something changed in crafting so i don't need as much junk as I thought i would
-
Anyone who has ever had the experience of hunting in a junkyard looking for the parts you need will understand that this new system is sweet.
Sure ore is easy to get... but try going to a junk pile and finding a spring that is just the right size for your 10mm pistol... will take some time... just like hunting for the junk... could take you a while to find just the right junk part... or better yet... try to find a trash can with a 10mm pipe in it for a barrel... the crafting timer to me represents the amount of time you have spent looking for these parts... now when i get a junk pile i just think... "damn it took a long time to find that spring" just as it would be in the waste.
-
agreed, i've always said that this game should have all gear available, but in a mad max sort of style make everything very expensive and powerful.
-
hmmm.. maybe junktown can be place where you can get junk?
-
heh after playing a bit... it seems i get junk faster the new way! ;D
-
it is Junk, the post apo. world should be full of Junk.
-
do you still need repair 30 to find junk in city maps?

I think you needed 20% but I guess the answer is no anyway, I did it myself and I have less.
-

Indeed!
Yet it's not all the SAME junk.
To paraphrase Blarg:
The scarcity of junk can be interpreted to reflect the difficulty of finding the Right junk.
Still there should be a bit more.
Maybe have it be barter in caravan encounters. (10+Luck*1.5% of 0-3 junk in merchant inventory, with luck above 5 giving a chance that the 0 junk possibility is changed to a minimum of 1. Say 10% at Luck 6, 25% at Lk 7, 45% at Lk 8, 70% at Lk 9, 100% at Luck 10.
I designed the progression to go +10, +15, +20, +25, +30 (Non-cumulative). This is to make each Luck level have its own meaningful impact.
Also: Explorer, Scout, Ranger, Survivalist should all give bonus to chances and quantities of junk and electronic parts.
This would be an excellent compromise addressing the Scout Class, which obviously cannot be implemented due to the massive griefing potential. (A Hunter Class could be used for seeking enemies in similar way.)
Edit: Make Scout Class have 2 Paths, Hunter and Scav. Scav being the one that grubs for Junk and Electronic Parts.
Perhaps the first level is a generic Scout level that serves as "Introduction to Wasteland Resources", then the class branches into Hunter and Scav.
Best of all: bring back the Scrounger Perk, and make it work with junk and electronic parts.
A Junk Economy, lol.

Took me an hour to find some junk... Then I was attacked 3 times crossing one square on my way to make some guns and killed.
Why's everyone always after mah junk? >:(

Oh, this exact same BS happened to me, also. I FINALLY found some junk around V15, and (finally satisfied) I went a couple of blocks east or NE of NCR to look for flint, and on my way back to NCR to use the damn workbench (Why the HELL didn't they put a work bench in with the mines?!) I get murdered by ONE goddamn marauder.
Not to mention that annoying running lag is still there when you try to escape...
I'm going to try again today, but if I run into as much frustration and scarcity as I did yesterday, then I'm just going to say "screw it" and go play elsewhere.

I kinda like scavenging for junk. It reminds of the "scavengers" near Cathedral that have junk on them at death. You can easily find junk by going into city locations on the same tile as Vault 15 (but not actually the green Vault 15 part). Maybe the cool-downs could be a tiny bit less for finding one piece of junk, but overall I like it.
-
I think junk should be harvestable from cars and other metal things in encounters, like EP is from computers. But the current system is still much better than the old barrel crap.
-
Actually, now that I've been running around the ruins of buildings, I find junk pretty easily. I honestly dunno what it was about searching for junk when I first started (post-wipe), but I could never find ANY!
Now I feel like I should scavenge junk just to sell...
;)

Soon Junk will cost more than High Quality Alloys, for sure.
Another hole in the economy... I guess we still can get Junk by disassembling weapons, though.
So, mine a heap of ore and minerals, craft metal parts, alloys, craft FN FAL, disassemble it, get 2 Junk... - a good way?
-
We have 80 junk at our base.... How do you need junk so badly?

Blah... It'll vanish in a blink of an eye, nothing to boast about :)
You'll need much more for a decent crafting process, in these terms it's puny amount :)
-
It is not hole in eco. It is good income for non-gang players. Iam alone and have around 30 junk.
-
I don't get it how it's possible that people got problems with obatining junk. Well I guess people are just lazy.

or maybe people dont feel like playing Gathering Online
(or Cooldown Online tbh)

@up
Sissy. Cooldowns aren't cool but bitchin about junk just because earlier you were boting/camping barells in NCR is quite silly.

I'm sorry i'm not a hardcore online gatherer like you dude. When players feel the need to macro, how hard is it to guess it's because it's a tedious and boring experiance, you don't solve that by making the same process take even more time and have a longer downtime.. you do the opposite.
Myself I prefer to macro a barrel sure, but I'm cool with the junk scavanging method but not the cooldown and the downtime it brings..
-
Uh, old junk barrel got timeout as well.
