Title: remove dog pp requirement
Post by: Roachor on November 16, 2012, 05:07:26 pm
Dogs are useless since they do less damage than a rat, its purely a cosmetic pet. There's no reason to have 40 pp requirement even if you had 10 you could barely hurt a molerat.

Its not all about killing, they give you 100 bonus to outdoors and they can't be stealed from so they make good mules

For real?

At least for scout dogs. Though it's not a straight +100, the dogs come with the appropriate OD skill, which will take over for enc detection. You're still going to be slow as molasses.

Not sure if I can confirm 100%, but that seems to be how it works.

won't be able to keep their poor scout doggy alive in anything but weak critter encounters unless auto flee.
One thing to keep in mind is that scout dogs have a bit of a reaction delay, meaning they usually start out running towards the enemy before actually fleeing. Coupled with their seriously low HP this sooner or later will get them wiped even if set to avoid combat.

I think maybe 30pp and a buff, they are quite weak...  Increase their damage and maybe hitpoints, I think 50% more damage wouldn't be bad.  Right now their only use is in a swarm to occupy the enemy while your character and or friends actually do the killing.  As for their scouting abilities.... negligible, maybe useful for low level chars but they wouldn't be able to get a dog in the first place, high end chars, won't be able to keep their poor scout doggy alive in anything but weak critter encounters unless auto flee.

Dogs have potential to be interesting.

Like this.

But to have a good feature out of dogs they should be available for everyone despite the stats. Otherwise we will just have boring dog-alts.

A wolf pack leader is good for one thing that I personally can attest to, and that is silver gecko hunters...  A pack of dogs and a 63hp girl leader can take out a dozen easily, repeatedly, over and over and over....   Lucrative?  not so much, as there are better uses of the time spent, but fun I guess.

This was planned, but when I talked about it, no scripter could be found to do this.

There are two types of dogs currently. One type was more for combat and the other more for scouting. They most likely need buffs in some ways.

While at it, find a scripter for this. Similar mechanic tied to it.

Dunno but I found it strange that normal dog and scout dog takes up the same PP. It would be nice to have 20 pp for normal dogs 40 for the scout especially if  they get a boost. Also it would be nice if we could name them... but that is off-topic.
