Title: Increase encounter rate
Post by: Fat Man on October 10, 2012, 08:48:33 am
Increase encounter rate why does it need to take 20 minutes to find a unity encounter?

Then people who travel without outdoorsman would get countless of annoying forced encounters.

But I agree that encounter finding needs to be less about zigzagging on worldmap and more about dealing with the encounters.

That is what cars are for.

Let's not forget new players who want to travel the world with terrible builds, constantly dying even against the easiest encounters.

Most of the wasteland is fine for some reason unity takes centuries to find one encounter.

when you are looking for something it never will be found
when you are not looking for something it will come to you all the time
This is how enounters work in 2238

Yes this game is exactly like that. But still the issue is unity patrols is like the slowest encounter to find.

and increase rating in encounters around mariposa

Try pretending you don't want any encounters... Maybe it'll fool the game and actually give you some encounters.

Or maybe give us 24lvl just after character creation it will be fun !"

Best way to increase encounter rate is to leave Outdoor untagged and unleveled. For everything else there's a Highwayman.

All outdoorsman does is increase the chance the menu comes up to skip the encounter or enter it in rl/tb, doesn't increase the chance to find the encounter.

It doesn't make a differnce if you have more or less outdoorsman unity takes forever to find.

This isn't an issue of outdoorsman its on the development end. Begining of this session unity encounters would come up like the enclave in their squares. But they changed this becuase apparently iyou're not suppose to farm and stock your base up with laser rifles and rocket launchers. And everything has to be more time consuming and more frustrating because having base loaded with gear is not acceptable ::)

You should try Glow.

Even if you don't find encounter, it seems like you already did it.

Hmmmm, I seem to vaguely remember somebody bitching about this along time ago....

...oh well, I guess this is more productive running around trying to find unity vs rogues, gives you the opportunity to watch most of an episode of New Jerseys Housewives without these pesky encounter interruptions.  :)

Not exactly. Outdoorsman alone and http://fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Explorer http://fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Pathfinder do increase WM travel speed. WM travel speed affects how far from each other the 'steps' {red dots} will be. On every 'step' you have a chance to encounter something (chance is depending on the critters in the zone).

So the lower Outdoorsman, the slower WM travel speed, thus more 'steps' on the way, thus higher chance to encountery something.

Well obviously its an annoying problem that only adds to frustration, tedium and boredom.  As such it should be fixed, this is a game not an exercise to see how many players you can get rid of through attrition of shitty unfun mechanics?  Game=fun?  Right?  No, my mistake, this is fonline, continue as you were, resume head up ass formation.

Make a Hunting Mode?

(Recycle the old Tracking thing or just add a window on area exit to choose hunting.)

Also, doesn't Unity accumulate bad rep towards you?

Yes you get - reputation with unity but they don't start shooting the minute you enter encounter until you get -2,000. Its not much of an issue. Its best to have an alt dedicated to farming if you are worried about town and faction reputations that you want to visit.

-300 actually.

After that it's all the same, having -300 with unity or -76000 is pretty much the same.

Now bad rep with critters from guarded towns is another story...

A "search for lifeforms/people" button would be an idea. instant-encounter for people who want to find an encounter, without OD applying (so no fast XP grind). I mean whats the point of the x minute wait until the next encounter pops up if you are looking for them? This doesn't balance anything, I can understand 45 minutes CD on weapons and armors but encounters happen so often, we don't really need a CD for people that are looking for them.

Agreed. There's absolutely no reason to keep players grinding the map for encounters. Only matters that need to take time in pve are: dealing with the hostile npcs, looting them and managing the loot.
