Post by: vedaras on March 04, 2010, 05:15:25 pm
Now many players play as melee/unarmed characters but they cant craft stuff they need themselves (because of requirements for professions that has craftable HTH items). Please read whole topic to get exact idea of what i about.

No further intros, so i begin:

Martial arts master profession level 1. (cost 1500 caps to learn). Requires 80% unarmed 80% melee weapons 7 strenght to learn the profession.

Teachers:
Thomas in Lost hills bunker.
John Sullivan in Klamaths "Golden Gecko"
Boxing coach in New reno. (he is removed currently so he would need to be added)

So i think thats all i can think off as my suggestion, and as i say its just a suggestion so things can be improved, changed and etc. But i think you get the picture :>

Now: Energy crafter lost 5 items for crafting (well i dont think energy crafters make those anyway), so in exchange energy weapon should get new weapons for crafting too and my suggestion would be: Turbo Plasma Rifle, Gatling Laser and maybe even Allien blaster.

one more thing, the improved capacitor for the creation of the super cattle prod, and maybe have the choice of one of the skills tagged, i can't see myself tagging both unarmed and melee skills, Ever.
And, fuck yeah man, if it goes in then i can finally be allowed to make gatling lasers, the name just makes my mouth water.

But this is martial arts! I can't see martial arts master who can fight with hands but no with melee weapon, or opposite.

oh, i forgot that you don't need to do all in on close combat skills because of their range, i kinda was a little confused on why you'd spent skillpoints into two combat skills, but i forgor that the ranges are less than 5... sorry, my bad...

Why the hell not, good idea.

Just add the mastery for charging and pursuing moving enemy, (technically like a launched projectile from a weapon, since you can't dodge them). Unarmed skill would then actually make sense.

Maybe it's engine side, and therefore untouchable on their end. Alternatively, it may just be lower priority than super important things relevant to everyone like stopping disassembling weapons during combat.

Doesn't change the fact that the louisville slugger is bat made of wood. Wood! ;)
The only thing I could imagine that it has an aluminium "core" or something...

Wiki: "Louisville Slugger": "This all-American, hardwood, baseball bat will knock anything right out of the park."

But, really, who cares, why do you need gunpowder for MFC? Wood for flamer?? lol? Omg, it's just resources. Nobody really cares.

well then its my bad, but still i think that bozaar was minigun in f2, and i think it would be better this bat to be made out of metal.

What has the Bozar to do with the Louisville Slugger?
It was listed under "Big Guns" and acts like one, while it's more a very heavy sniper rifle. It's based in our real worlds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_M82 if I remember correct.

its not real world man, the game is for fun, not for keeping it real.

*sigh*

Everything I wanted to say is, that the FO1/2 devs took some real world weapons as a reference. And there is the barret m82, which was a reference for the bozar. It's a sniper rifle, no minigun.

it was weapon that player loved most in f2, and now its just shit :> What a great example of reality ...

Reality is always harsher than the wasteland and the louiseville slugger is made of wood and it even looks that way in game.If someone did a retexture of it to make it look like metal then it wouldnt be so bad.

Good point, a red ryder would explode if you put powder in them, it's pump action air rifle.

And the BBs require as much science to make as small energy cells. Not only is it silly, it's a wasted opportunity.

Yeah, you need to know how to polish them and make shiny, and also, I think, you need even more science to transform Junk and 2 Gunpowder packs into stainless steel....

BB's are made by pouring molten metal down a shaft and they harden in the air then sorted by size, any that aren't round get rolled off a platform and re melted.

Too many professions not good idea too. Martial arts = melee weapon and unarmed. Also that's really hard to find someone who know how to strike with knife/katana, but who don't know anything about unarmed fight. If you know how to stab with knife, but don't know how to hit with hands, than you can't be martial arts master.

well first aid and doctor are two separate skills too :/ and in other professions you need for example small guns and science and repair, so you waste some skill points even if you dont want to, and in this case i wouldnt call raising both skills skillpoints waste :/
Title: Re: Lets make it close and personal. New profession: martial arts master

I don't really like the requirements. You need both unarmed and melee which is waste. Most people stick to a single combat skill and focus on it. Forcing somoene to level 2 skills is just waste.

Sure, other professions need more than 1 skill. But those skill have a good use.
For example:

Repair = Repairing your gear, no one doesn't like not being able to fix his items.
Science = Dissembling, another usseful feature anyone likes to have.
Outdoorsman = Faster traveling and less pesky encounters. Need to say more?

While having 2 combat skills is completely unneeded.

How to solve this? either make it melee OR unarmed skill
Or split it it into 2 professions.
Another requirement bothers me: The strenght requirement.
If you want to use melee, why would you need 9 strenght?
It's not going to help in combat.
My Melee character has 4 strenght, and is somoene you don't want to meet in close quarters. (rippers ftw)
Your suggestion really needs improvements.

no, you wont repair item with 90 or 120 repair, the skillpoints are being wasted and i do not agree with that :>
Title: Re: Lets make it close and personal. New profession: martial arts master

doctor is for healing injured body parts, first aid is for filling HP = it is difference, and for profession like Doctor both are required, because what kind of doctor is he if he cant heal a crippled leg.

but martial arts master... thats funny, maybe if unarmed profession and melee profession would exist, but seperated, id agree on it, but they both are for one thing: hitting someone...
when you can raise up unarmed and use it well, why would you need melee? :D

If you raising unarmed skill only to hit someone, then go and hit someone. If you want to be martial arts master, then you also need to raise melee.

Ever tried using a tool and 120 repair? you will be able to fix most things just fine.
The whole problem are your requirements, the proffession really has to be split up.
To get martial arts you basicly have to tag two skills, one being almost completely usseles. Why use melee when you can use unarmed?
or why use unarmed when you can use melee?

It's the big problem with the tagged skills. They have to tag something usseful. And aren't meant to be wasted. So you are an martial arts master, how nice.
Now how the heck are you going to make those items? You need 80% repair for electronic parts. Sure you can make it your third tag skill.
So you will have to add some points to outdoorsman aswell. Since you have to be able to mine something.

You are going to waste ALLOT of skillpoints just being able to craft things. and how about First aid? or doctor? isn't that considered vital for any unarmed/melee character?
Simply because you are going to take allot of hits? sure you could tag that. But then you have to raise your repair. Unless you have 10 int it's going to be very hard for you to get around.

It simply doesn't work. tagging two combat skills is not a good idea. and It never will be, unless you are supported by an entire gang.
Either Split, or it's a no go if you ask me.
