Title: Things that need to be fixed
Post by: Swarm on March 21, 2012, 05:19:41 pm
Not an offical thread, and this isn't a thread to cry baby and complain, we have the piece of shit game thread already. The purpose of this thread is to hopefully somebody who developes this game sees what we think as players need to be fixed.

Field of View
The lines red yellow and green lines only go 36 hexes. This is useful to many PvP players so they know where to stand and if a players is in or out of view.

Ghost encounters,
80's BOS initiates are the two that come to mind. I think either put the encounters back in or just remove them from even being encounters.

Plasma grenade silent death
Either balance this or remove it.

Melee NPCs
In some encounters NPC's with spears don't do anything in a turn unless they are close enough to attack. And this results in waiting the full 20-30 seconds for it to end its turn.

Town Control
The game is meant to be played and doing something interactive such as fighting other factions not go afk or stare at the same screen for hours on end.

Militia Laws
These are just bugged and need to be removed or fixed.

NPCs triggering militita
Yes there is a bug or if its intended if a town npc attacks you, it triggers the militia. Not sure if this has to do with laws or not.

The Lag spike
I do not know if its just me but I think its everybody on server there is a bizarre lag spike that happends every 30 minutes or something.

Treasure Hunter
This just needs to be fixed, chest that can't be opened with 300% skill + lockpicks and all that is inside is junk.

I'm getting it, confirmed it with 2 others on different occasions while travelling together. They both got it as well.

I was going to add that to my edit, but I saw the topic refreshed :P Yes the field of view really needs to be fixed. I can go without the other fixes but the FoV is one thing I really want fixed above all else.

Well I think it needs to be reworked, I would prefer balance than flat out getting removed.

HQ chemical components.

HQ fibers.

It would be nice have those items so some things can finally be crafted.

Barter is supposed to be fixed on next update, but I'll give it an honorable mention anyway.

Good idea to post a cumulative list. Should we move this to Bugs area though? And i agree with Dave about the HQ stuff - maybe add chance to find HQ materials to blueprint lockers?

HIGH
Town Control system (i know some of these are already being worked on)
Bartering with Vendors
Treasure Hunter is broken - working backwards
Clicking FIX button in Fix-Boy should stay on same screen

MEDIUM
Geiger counters not working
Client crashes sometimes when dropping items on the ground (thank you, HertogJan)
Perma-locked containers
HQ Fibers only appear in-game by Sciencing high-end gear (true?)
Water bags disappear from inventory when making Nuka Cola
Scrolling through lists in base/site terminals - some records hard to find
Certain resources not replenishing in bases (like tobacco at Outpost and trees at Trapper Camp)
Uranium ore not available (bug or not?)
Gunrunners rep not lowered for killing players there (bug or not?)

LOW
"80s" do not appear in 80s encounters
"Brotherhood Initiate Patrols" also do not appear in their own encounters
Entering flare quest in TB takes 2 hours (is this fixed already maybe?)
Buster's quest in NCR shows up as error in Pip-Boy
Flint dropped on ground should show up as rock, not as package
Gecko pelts dropped on ground should show up as pelts, not as boxes
Corpses sometimes move to new hex when being searched, so you have to search them again
Entering Login fields on Login prompt should highlight/replace existing data, and not require backspacing
Some rock clusters at mines are showing false "hands" or seem to be totally inactive
Apple trees in many wasteland encounters display as "tobacco plants"

OTHER (Wish List / Player Gripes)
Crafting recipes too expensive - cut junk requirements in half
Gear deteriorates much too quickly
Super sledgehammers should work for mining
Need a Violations table added to server to list player bans and reasons/resolutions

Very nice marko, yes 3/4 are bugs but things like town control and plasma sneaker are more so intended and not bugged.

I'm sure many of this stuff gets reported in the bug section but a thread where players can post to what they want fixed and to discuss such matters may get some attention.

Just one thing about the lag spikes that sometimes comes up devs should look into it the previous server was acting like this in the begining. I so hope its not an attack just some minor fault.

Unsafe town npcs going berserk after being hit by accident from burst.
Well I think its ok. At Jagged Alliance whole milita rebeled if you accidently hurt or killed civilians. NPC's should be more agressive in my opinion although they should try to get out of combat as long as they not hit.

I never considered it as a bug. And actually I quite liked the fact that by shooting everywhere and injuring civilians made the milita rebel and me to loose loyalty of the towns.
Actually it wasn't fixed cause you can reenable milita hostility. Or you can set them to be ok with you killing them.

-Uranium could still be bugged.
-Other players client crashes when putting items on the trade screen.
-Spear NPCs and NPCs that run to the edge of the map and wait out their turn while spamming chat messages.
-Lack of detonator parts.
-Can't give followers to other players (Unless this had been fixed)

For some time it seems like the development area of this game is ghost. I mean, we all know there are devs out there somewhere, but we just don't get any word from them about upcoming updates. The last one was 1,5 month ago, and there are so many things to be taken care of.
What's happening?

-Other players client crashes when putting items on the trade screen.

I get a weird crash sometimes when I pick up items or put on ground in one of my bases.

If you stand back from this whole project and get a broader perspective, the developers have actually provided very strong, solid communication in the following ways:

> We have a forum and it has a Bugs area - that means they care about this thing. That's the devs saying to the players "hey we care about this! Tell us about bugs!" That's strong comm right there.

> There is a developer blog too. That means they see value in informing us of news. That's the devs saying to the players "hey check out what's happening! here's the news!" More strong comm.

> We have wipes. That's solid proof the devs are working on this project in a major way. It's them saying, "We're on this thing!"

> Server migration. This only happened because they are committed to keeping this thing live and running. They didn't call you on your cell phone to tell you, true, but they migrated a ding-dang server! That took a lot of time, making calls, finding a new service, weighing the options, etc. Take that as more strong statements from the team that they are committed to this project.

So...their comm is not exactly what we all want. But rather than try to force them to adapt to our standards, let's try adjusting our expectations proportional to how much we pay each month to play here. I hope that helps, ie we're the ones who need to change, not them.

I agree with Marko, I've work as a game tester professionally and most devs don't give a shit about fiing bugs since it's all about having a working "good enough" product in the shortest timeframe. I've seen ridiculous glitches ignored just because the game passed the compliance standards and any more money spent fixing the game would be a waste. Shit gets fixed generally, the devs do pay attention to the community and a lot of good ideas are crowdsourced into the game. You can't expect people doing something for free to work like they are doing it for pay, long waits is the price of quality.

What is the respawn time for uranium ore in BH mine? I was standing there for an hour and still depleted. Can someone tell me, its buged or what?  :)

Maybe fix the player encounter system. I don't know how it works now but i havent been able to encounter other players pretty much at all this wipe. TC is not the only combat that needs work there are people who would like to pvp in turn based as well but it was all but erased from the game basically. Turn based perks were nerfed, its hard as hell to encounter players, and the lack of players on the server already make it near immpossible.

I don't believe it respawns at all.  Whether it's a bug or not I dunno, but it's been months since anyone I know has been able to mine it.
