Title: Change the way special encounters are found
Post by: avv on February 08, 2012, 11:24:49 am
It is possible to farm gauss because of the way the special encs work. They have a certain area in which you can find them and they are once per char. So some dedicated players keep making alts and walk them around in those areas to get the weapons. This is incredibly boring and dumb gameplay which hurts the precious nature of special encs.

I suggest they can be found anywhere at any time with equal chance or smaller as now and infinite times per one char. This way the special encs are tied to normal gameplay and don't need to be abused.

I support this. I also until now did not know how they work, but now my desire to find some down almost to zero.

Actually I think I have one char that got it two times. But yeah, this area thingy is retarded, should have equal chance everywhere.

Add pol with option *yes*  ;) :D

Also this is really weird to search gauss at 1 place at map, i mean themepark area.

Definitely YES. If remember correctly, special encounters in original Fallout games were totaly random and could be found everywhere on the WM.

Not even close.

They were all in preset locations.  Or well...  most of them.  A few were truly random but most preset.  (particularly tactics and fallout 2 it is noticeable)

I thought for sure I heard Solar or Surf say last era that all special encounters were 100% random and not tied to any one particular location.  Could be wrong though I guess.

1) I don't like this idea, because then it's all about luck not exploring world map.
You can just walk around on one easy square until you find them all.

2) But also I don't like that they are in "static" areas now, same for every player.
Because once you know where they are... see point 1)

So my proposition is:

When a new character is created, squares with each treasure are randomly chosen.
So basically locations of treasures would be static, but different for each character.
Coordinates of treasures can be stored as local player vars.
Big town and ocean/coast squares should be excluded.

Increase chance to find it once you are on the right square, to balance it.
Make sure people with outdoors have higher chance, taking into account that they move faster so leave squares faster.

I like it.
