I want to know if they only spawn in guarded towns.

Otherwise it's friggin simple they are only located at bars and general merchants afaik never seen them ANYWHERE else.

I found a companion in Becky's in The Den, which I'm pretty sure is an unguarded town. First one I'd ever spotted, and I've been looking quite often, so I guess they're quite rare - or more likely they're quite frequent, but someone else always gets there first :)

I found 2 within 8 hours inside the Hub. Inside Maltese Falcon, standing just inside to the right of the easternmost door. (There are two doors leading in, right next to each other.)

Sorry, this is only location I know, but as I find out more, I'll update here. ^_^

I'll post a screenshot tomorrow.

I frequently see companions go to Dusty's Bar in the inner city of NCR, next to the counter... these ones wear mostly metal or combat armor...

I've never seen a companion with default combat armor......  :o  ???  ::)

Look in San Frans Train station, I saw a guy in CA that was just standing there in it and he was a traveler
But I didn't have enough speech to take him :/

Sorry for the offtopicness of the following:

Is it possible to aquire more than one companion?
If one is the maximum: what minimum does my character need to have in terms of charisma, speech, goodnatured? Or maybe it varies.

The reason I ask here is because I'm sure the professionals of followers read this topic ;-)

Yes you can have more than one companion.  You can have a maximum of 300 party points, companions take 70.  To get the 300 it would require you to have 10 charisma, good natured, magnetic personality and 300% speech (bit excessive) and you would not be able to have slaves.  But it would allow you to have 4 companions, in my opinion it's much easier to just do 10 charisma, magnetic personality and 150-180% speech (with 180% speech you could have 3 companions) and you can still slave.  AFAIK ALL companions take up 70 party points although some are superior to others in what they do (Damn you throwing tagged companions!)

players donT take up party points. 1 ch for every player you can carry is how it goes. so with 10 ch you can cary 9 players 10 with yourself.

No, I have confirmed through continuous observation/visiting of these places on a consistant basis that you cannot obtain followers in New Reno.

Which is kind of dumb, all these gangster wannabees as there always is in such themed areas there's not a single one you can attempt to manipulate?

Yeah, I thought reno would be the companion hotspot so I went there pretty often the first days after wipe and never found any so gave up searching there  ???

Also nothing in New Reno. Maybe we should start ruling out places they are not found. Like did anyone find one in gecko? Or Broken Hills?

So far it's NCR in Dusty's, Hub in Maltese Falcon, Den in Becky's and San Francisco in train station bar.

Anyone got more leads just post'em, let's get those lazy companions ! ;p

Check this places 3 times per day and you will find companion in 1-2 days (or even sooner).

Looks like I'm that bad guy. Created some alts to oversee a few known companion spots. Already asked a gm/dev if its okay to do so. Certainly i wouldnt do it if it was against the rules. Everyone got the posibility to do the same and i already saw some other people doing it. As a matter of fact i dont even take every traveller i spot. Took only one of the last 4 i have spotted. I just observed the behavior of 2 travellers to see what they are doing if not taken and for the last one i even shoutet out his presence in hub/ncr for people who are willing to take him. Guess what? No one showed up for about 20 minutes. And this was at rush hour. Couldnt believe it. Eventually another spotter droped by and took him.

About the observation: Spotted a traveller in the small bar in junktown. After about 40 minutes of roaming he just despawned right in front of my face. About 3 Minutes later a new traveller droped by in the same place with a better armor and more hp. So i got the conclusion that if not taken, a better one will spawn. After another roughly 40 minutes the second one despawned as well, but no new showed up. It was nighttime at that point and junktown closed so i dont know if that was the reason or if the second spawn was just blind chance.

I was rather disappointed about the despawn. It decreases the already small chance to get a traveller.
Thats why i would desire a traveller location hint system like already suggested, or just a better spawnrate/always at least one traveller active somewhere.

Btw: I had to die 3 times for the last of the 4 mentioned earlier. Some gang "closed" Den and called it a "military operation". Was lucky that they didnt notice the traveller in beckys casino. Was really tough to get him, so dont blame me too much ;)

I spoke to a traveller a few days ago just to realize, she didn't want to talk with me because of low INT. Got some mentats but I haven't been able to meet any traveller since then. I just hope that levelling this only char I've got wasn't futile. I didn't see any info about INT requirement on wiki.

Um, what did the traveller say? Something like "Who do you think you are?/Who are you?". In that case it was already occupied by another player.

I dont really know if drugs will help. Imagine you take the drugs, get the traveller and after the drugs wear off you cant even talk properly to your own companion. I just dont know. Guess you have to try it out  :-\

As of NCR, I know three companion spots...they hang out inside Dusty's cantina by one of the chairs, to the immediate left of the door to the Rawhide Saloon, or in the table surrounded by chairs in the bazaar(next to iguana stand).
In junktown, they are in the bar next to the south gate, as well as by the dog salesman near Gizmo's casino.
In the Hub, I know that they wait in multiple places inside the maltese falcon, or in front of Mitch of the all-in-one store.
In the Den, I saw some in Becky's bar, either in front of the counter or between the tables.
I have heard rumors of San Francisco train station, but it is not verified.
Hope this helps people, I will keep updating when I find new things.
Also, something you may want to note, the travellers are balanced out in stats. High Hp ones often have bad stats. Low hp ones usually have higher stats. The only ones that seem to matter is strength and perception for accuracy, agility for AP, and endurance for level up HP gain. Of course, you could have a 5 ap thrower with 86 hp who cant aim and doesn't have enough strength to throw beyond his face. The way I see it is their stats are randomly forumlated, and their highest combat skill becomes the "tagged" one. So one could have a high intelligence, charisma, or luck, and low everything else, compared to a 218(highest I found so far)hp with 10 ap, 7 st, 6 pe, and 1 int/ch.
