Title: A beta truck.
Post by: Lizard on November 06, 2011, 06:55:13 pm
While i wandered the wastes with my brahmin, i found something really interesting...

(http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/9659/truckpainted.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/257/truckpainted.jpg/)

I have a thick rope in my bag and some waterbags for my brahmin. It looks like it could pull this to my hideout. But, could this rolling piece of junk be restored, i wonder? Do i have all the tools? Or should i leave it as is and don't bother?

Go for it, try to restore it.

That's not how it works, a real Fonline player would somehow rig it with explosives so the blue suit who found it next would think it was their lucky day and explode 3 seconds later.  ;D

All I can say, don't start showing something off that ain't finished, you might end up on never finishing it. I did that mistake too many times.

2 Rails, a steering wheel and a couple of tires attached? I don't think this thing would ever be able to properly move its own weight. The idea is p. nice, but you should tweak it a bit, add some accesoires, try to see if it would actually be able to move in the real world etc. In any way, keep up the good work.

Um? It's a chassis.

I would like to see the car finished :)

I could've guessed, why the wreck was abandoned.

Liz, why don't you texture this truck fully and give us a peek how it could look as a frame? Perhaps post the UV, so one could provide additional textures? And, oh, the front wheels are a bit too far from each other.

So, why are you talking to yourself again?

Whom are you adressing to, Inspector Gadget? And why are you asking him, perhaps he just wants to roleplay?
(http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/2672/yousee.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/818/yousee.jpg/)

Of course, he needs a reliant rp partner. Now try to find those who're interested in obscure scenarios, like maintaining a secret garage, while helping build original content or just don't want to pwn RP nubs by bumping the "secret garage" to public view before planned date.

You like RP, i think you'll understand that.

So, LagMaster, i think my cave is busted. I need a new hideout, any idea where it could be, do you know a good location?

But i have this truck done, btw.
Would you like to see another colour variations? Some crates with ore, crates loaded, a tarp perhaps? Feel free to suggest, i accept also faction variations This was planned as a replacement frame mod for the Highwayman, btw, i dunno if the devs would like a additional vehicle.

A bit darker shade of green for the truck. About the carried goods would be nice to see some closed creates and barels at the back.

Aww, and i hoped this truck having implemented in 2238. All but for a naught, baww.

Anyway, i'm gonna throw my Highwayman away for this, replace the sprite then.

But why isn't this fallouty, Surf? Too 70' or what? Any suggestions on style?

You could make the front and the sideburns (?) a bit bulkier and make the edges round and round - you know like all those 50ies cars and that.

There's a flavour of 50's utilitarian design truck for you, Surf. With a board.

Oh, and LagMaster, i think the tent is quite nice and comfy on the shore. But you'll need to hide it better. Thanks for the new canvas, btw. ;)

Looks much better now! Make the front a slight bit more bulkier, texture it and you'll have a very nice fallouty truck.

end remember that perspective is the key...
also when u gona finish it in 100% just check how would it look if u put it thru fallout color palette , usually it helps a lot with blending new object into fallout envoirment

First dithering attempt, i know, it's in JPG. I gotta draw the shadow via hand, it seems.

Thanks, Senocular! Ye, Lagmaster, i just borrowed them, you'll get them back. With something much better. So you live on the shore?

Also, dithering attempt Nr.2, in GIMP. Still can't figure out how to delete this annoying blue edge.

I think i managed the problem with the outline while rendering, Haraldx, but i still have problems with the render the Fallout palette and proper dithering. The render picture will always look glossy and have sun reflexes on it. Could you put this image through Fallout palette in Photoshop, please?
I'm not that good in photoshopping pictures...

Lizard make 2 render one with OSA sett on and one without that. Also add a screen from the game as a background to set the proper size. I wasn't able yet to do anything with the blend you sent me but as I seen it was pretty well made though a bit too highpoly in my eyes you made a real detailed model. The new color is definitely better however to give it a sprite like filling there should be some overpaint on the edges beside the applying of the palette.

Okay.
I did now following: set the Fallout palette and smudge a bit with blur. And this here is a result:

(http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/2746/truckditherpalett.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/36/truckditherpalett.png/)

On the map, it would look something like this, unfortunately some glitch made a white outline during scaling. Shadow is provisional drawn on the layer beneath with a marker.
(http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/599/privatemineexttruck.th.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/638/privatemineexttruck.jpg/)

What do you think?

Your model looks good. Technically, you rendered it in a wrong way meaning it is of couple of inches, (just compare it to the original FO graphics and you will see it is off). Simple as that. It is just not a good and fitting Fallout model.

Simply compare this :

(http://www.abload.de/img/car2nx7ra.gif) to that: (http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/2746/truckditherpalett.png)

It is not a matter of "is he skilledor not" - it is a matter of making it in the fallout style. ;)

to that:

Hm? The lack of manually painting over the model is not the only problem, it is that your model simply doesn't fit. As said, it is a cool model, but it is too modern, lacks manually "love to detail" and such.

Thanks, man. Everyone, when you like it, it's the best seal of approval for me  ;D

Surf, i'm not a Leonard Boyarsky. I think he'll probably have a hard time with you, too.

I'm just offering the COMMUNITY a piece of my art, if you don't like it, fine, Lexx hates it, too. Fat chance for implementing it for me.
Maybe someone sees it another way, i'll be glad to hear them.

Revisiting the truck, using a scavenged cabin and even more dithering and decent pixelpaint. I think the original truck cabin looks better than something made completely from the scratch, so i pasted the edited original graphic over a part of original content.

That is bloody sweet man, i want one!! :D

@ Surf: About the previous version not fitting, then what the hell is the hummer from tactics doing in Fonline. Everything about it screams non fallout compared to the destroyed car you used for comparison.

@ Lizard: Your original truck would make a nice Fallout tactics scenary piece, do u mind if i convert it to Fallout Tactics?
Title: Re: Chimaera truck.
Post by: Lizard on March 16, 2012, 10:43:54 am
Thanks, Ox-Skull! That means a lot to me! ;D

Of course you can use it for Tactics as a scenery piece, but i'll try also to make some graphics for driveable version. I'm not very well-versed in Tactics modding, but I suppose one might need additional animated renders, if you want to make this truck driveable. Or destroyable. ;)

I could provide these, but i'm also interested how much animations the Tactics engine can handle - i was thinking about steering animations and different wheel speeds - the original Hummer had fixed wheels straightforward and spinning wheels while standing in TB mode.
