Recently bought ClearSky a week ago, beat it in about 5 days. (Which is a record long time considering how long it was for me) If any other stalker players/fans would help enlighten me on a few things, because the story left me a bit confused... because I don't see the point in arsing myself with a forum registration on their site just for a few questions. And since this is a nuclear postapo community I figure most people have at least heard of Stalker :).
1. What happened to you at the end of ClearSky? That huge emission. It never clarifies whether "YOU" (your character) died. Just that everyone else did.
2. Are you able to have companions on any of the series? I remember a vid where you had a couple guys go down in this tunnel with you, with (after reading some youtube comments and description of vid) were special characters you could choose. I think it was call of pripyat though.
3. What is the point of joining a faction and destroying the other? Besides loots from beating them? There seems to be no real point.
4. those guys (the scientists) at the beginning of ClearSky, they were never explained in the game, are they ever explained?
5. After playing Clearsky, seeing as its a prequal to Chernobyl, yet its the second in the series, which one should I buy next to get the story and such correctly?
Thats about all, feel free to use the thread to ask your own questions about the series as well.

Well I played every stalker game and I can glady say its awesome . I still remember those horrible X-Labs from stalker 1. But yes you can get followers in Prypyat while you tavel through that tunnel you got with a fat guy and some military guy you get from the scientists. You can get both of them or just the fatty. But first you gotta make some missions for scientists to get the closed respiratory suit or something like that.In Clear Sky and in Prypyat there is a background story for them .You can usually find more info when you aquarie PDA's and readding the info about them.Joining a faction is another cool thing and feature. This gives you possibiliets like getting better equipment or just some shit stuff to sell to get some cash for upgrades and other stuff. You should always keep and eye for Bloodsukers in Prypyat if you played it. Thats all I got to say ;)
P.S All the stalker games have alternative endings thus forcing the player to play the game again.

So your actions change this then? I joined Duty and totally destroyed freedom within 20 minutes,(my first playthrough i had it on novice :C) and at the end of the game an emission fucked everything up. So in theory, if I joined freedom and fucked up Duty, there would be no Emission disaster?
Or are the endings just random?

Eeach action you do influence the ending.

Dunno either. In "Shadow of Chernobyl" I've never decided to join the Freedom or the Duty. Simply, being a loner gives you more opportunities.
But maybe because of quests?

One hint for stalker shadow of chernobyl. If you meet controller.Just stay as much close as you can to him. That way his attack wont have any effect against you. I don't remember good if this works for others too.But it works great for stalker soc. Also in stalker soc joining faction's didn't have any impact on game or story.Just allowed you to gain some extra cash armor and some weapons.
-
to kill da controler you need to get close to him and then stab his fucking face with a knife [i love that]
Anyway Joining to Factions allows you to get some special items for finishing their oponent [Ex. as playing on Freedom and geting your hands to duty base you will get Freedom Exoskeleton/ More items in shop]
Companions in All stalker series are...Unable? you can get them to follow only on quests so i dont count is as it
About Mercenary Scar...he dont die on end but Clear Sky faction do, He gets into hands of monolith and goes to Brainwash, You can find him in Call of Pripat in one place [the dudes near bandit outpost in Janov]
Anymore questions ask :] i finished STALKER series on all modes [novice - master] also with mods

You don't know, finish the last game to get some clues

Only scripted guys where you're part of an action or quest ( like escorting scientist in first game )
3. What is the point of joining a faction and destroying the other? Besides loots from beating them? There seems to be no real point.
Fun
4. those guys (the scientists) at the beginning of ClearSky, they were never explained in the game, are they ever explained?
Clear Sky faction ceases to exist after the ending of CS IIRC.
5. After playing Clearsky, seeing as its a prequal to Chernobyl, yet its the second in the series, which one should I buy next to get the story and such correctly?
Definetly the first game, its a little buggy, but has great gameplay and atmosphere

SoC>CoP>CS
BTW, if you do by chance get SoC, and wanna really make the game better, download the Super Mod Pack 2.4...Its amazing.
-
Stalker 2 is going to arive at the end of 2011.
-
no soldier would ever wear a gas mask. it's harder to run, aim and shoot with a gasmask on. these girls need to grow up and breath in that radiation. cell damaging free radicals builds character, gas masks do not.

Where would I find these guys in ClearSky?
About Mercenary Scar...he dont die on end but Clear Sky faction do, He gets into hands of monolith and goes to Brainwash, You can find him in Call of Pripat in one place [the dudes near bandit outpost in Janov]
Since he is monolith now I'm guessing he just shoots at you... or did he escape like Strelok? The latter would certainly be more interesting...

What is the best mods for clearsky? And is there a tutorial for integrating them into the game? I am very bad with this section of technology :P.
Is there anyway to fix the messed up game engine on ClearSky? The lags and shit... I already lower things as low as possible and although 90% its smooth, sometimes, (like in camps with fires for some reason) it gets extremely laggy. Especially in big firefights. Its Juuuuuusssstttt smooth enough to be able to fight correctly but it's still a bitch.
HOW, THE SHIT, DID YOU BEAT IT ON MASTER????? Its Tough as SHIT on Stalker already. Hell I just gave up the firefight shit and just resorted to sniping every motherfucker With the hint of red on their name.
-
Actually companions in CS might be a red herring, he might mean some sort of faction related following or mod where you can exchange 1 medkit and any stalker will follow you (wtf)?
-
Clear Sky has some scarry shit in it.Like those Monolith worshiping that garbage statue.I had nightmares about it.Or was it Pripyat? I think it was Prypiat....Correct me if I'm mistaking.

I have another STALKER story to share:
So i go down into that underground research facility with the poltergeists. Damn man, i go down there and take a quick look inside the first room.
Ok just some crates.
I take a quick peek around the corner and stare into the darkness of the hallway.
Damn, its dark in here, good thing i have a suit with nightvision sight.
I turn around to face inside the room agai- BAMM!
What the fraack!
The stupid crates where thrown right into my face me by the poltergeist just the moment i turn around, so i could not see them float in the air for a few seconds.
Damn, mostly im shock resistant in games but this made me jump off my desk chair.
After that, every crate in every room died of pistol-fire.
I also was dumb enough to not shoot the glowing boltergeists as i thought they are some kind of anomality. So the stuff flying at me never stopped. I ran through the whole complex like a motherfucker not to be killed from flying cans and other scrap :D

Quite similar to my first walkthrough.
Especially this part

I actually didn't find out that Poltergeists can be killed before I played CoP (so I was still scared as shit when I played SoC for the 3rd time)
-
I made an observation that items are flying on me only when those damn lights are around. Because it was so annoying I decided to burst those lights, and I was quite surprised to find it's actualy a mutated species.
Well, you must love a game which makes you explore things instead of telling you just what to shoot.

Same thing is in SoC when you go look for Streloks stash.

I have a question, its a good one - Say, My favourite games are Fallout (old ones), Baldur, Planescape, (you see where its going?) Arcanum, Half Life (especially old one), Morrowind (pff.. okay, Buggerfall was okay as well) was okay but other than that i shit flames when i hear "Bethesda". I really adore the idea of postapo - radiation, mutation and stuff. I'm not against shooters, mainly I find them annoying cause they are dumb. (loved FEAR though).
Is trying STALKER in my case a good idea?
-
Even though I've never played Stalker (crappy PC, would love to play it) I'd say go for it. From what I saw it's a very atmospheric game, although not as "roleplay"-y as some games you mentionend.

It is the ultimate NUCLEAR-postapocalyptic game in my opinion. There isn't much roleplay in it, you can only use one phrase for any set of dialogue, so its actually technically, not RPG at all except when it comes to literal actions such as killing people and/or joining factions.
It IS EXTREMELY immersive/atmospheric as said... It has a little bit of everything you would and wouldn't expect in such a place/situations.
You bleed when you get hurt, you die when you get shot, your bullets are fine-tuned to represent realistic bullet actions. (over long ranges bullets fall) And the Combat AI is AMAZING. It's like they act as a group and not some shit "SShhwaarrmzzz, get up in face and PEW PEW!!" Like some brainswashed dumbshits just with guns strapped to them and not bombs. Although it fucks up occassionaly, you kick ass when you deserve it (use yrrrr brraiin) you laugh your ass off, and you piss your pants.
Even if you have a shitty PC, the games can run on VISTA! For god's sake! xD Just lower the graphics and all that stuff as low as possible and it's smooth as hell even on ClearSky. (Which I understand, it is somehow really laggy and such only because they tried to switch game engines and didn't quite make it).
And they only cost about $10 each... It's absolutely worth it.

You people made me get stalker clear sky again :)

Ahhh... Get out of here STALKER! I said come in!
So great memories! For those who don't remember those guys from STALKER SoC or never played the game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MtkauI3V4E (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MtkauI3V4E)
Never played STALKER Clear Sky tho, only Call of Pripyat and Shadow of Chernobyl! The first time I encountered a bloodsucker, poltergeist or a controller I was quite scared! Really love the bullet simulation in STALKER, you can experience more of it when taking a sniper rifle and trying to snipe someone from about 300 meters in Call of Pripyat - bullets even seem to lose speed, they slowly drop to the ground and sometimes do ricochets! I remember just aiming all the time about 3 meters in the sky when shooting at people at long range.

I was playing around with clear sky when I encountered this OMG ZOMBIES!

You sure that isn't a mod or something? I know zombies are in game but i've been everywhere and never seen them without guns... or very far from the facility they come from.

Cool, I think I know which one you're talking about although it only mentioned items, might get it. (in case it is not the right one do you mind posting the link to it?)
Btw, you made it sound like it was a surprise, which I guess was sarcasm. Epic Misfire ;D

Its called Helios Spawn Menu
http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Helios_Spawn_Menu_Mod;95248
Be carefull with it, it may cause the game to crash if you cheat quests or anything other than that its great to have it.
OH almost forgot if you want to spawn different zombies with weapons for example you can moddifie the mod files very easy.
