i just read in the manual that if someone picks up your radio, it stays on the last channel it was set to, letting you possibly spy on a group.   o.    my.   god.   :D

you know, ive said it a million times, and i'll say it again.   multi million $ budget games are crap.   every time they release a new console, they rehash stale ideas with a new shiny coat.     i just shoveled brahmin shit.    then i dropped some on the street (had some cuz i didnt ask for a shovel at first and put some in my pocket) out of like a punk rock thing (shoulda thrown it at the front gate)  and now the town is a little bit angry at me.  i made a tent....  this game has everything.   crafting?   are you serious?

i probably will be angry here in about 20-25 minutes or so by being slaughtered at least a hundered times just trying to get my feet wet, but its ok.    small price to pay for the opportunity to...well.......shovel shit in the daytime and play with a radio tuner at night.   :'(   im just.....so.... :'(.....happy....

btw a shadowrun awakened mmo is in the works.   i read that they are going to make owning a corp an option.   like, giving orders from behind a desk if you wanted.   dont know if i'll ever stop playing this long enough to check it out, let alone sleep or eat.......

i know that the rule is to not trust anyone, and i dont mean to, but in the few hours on this game, ive been helped out without asking by one random person after the next.   probably only a matter of time before im splattered in front of my own tent, but the insane amount of features in this game are going to keep me here.

i still cant get over the radio having a 5 digit channel selector with broadcast options (lol that still blows my mind). why cant companies like ubisoft understand its all about the content?  im playing the best mmo ever and it was free.   ;D

so far im haing a blast, and everyone has been cool as a penguin sack.   you guys are the shit.    :-*

OMFG SOMEONE DID READ THE MANUAL

Alec, you made my day.

I printed out a manual when I started, spiral bound it at work.  Printed it at work too, to avoid paying for paper.
Then I left it on top of the toilet tank at home so I could read it when dropping deuces.

no complaints here.    its the wasteland, its supposed to be rape around every corner.   plus it affords this crazy territory climate.  ive been reading some posts dealing with power shifts and clans.   cool stuff.     i hear some clan is trying to make redding pk free?    amazing!

im just glad i can keep my tent and items in it when i die.  takes away alot of stress.   plus, i have my stupid radio.   i always looked at this thing in fallout 2 and wanted it to do more than interact with 1 specific mission.  now i can broadcast over the wasteland  whenever i want?  score.

plus im retarded for good rpg elements.  ive spent a good hour broadcasting to absolutley nobody.  another hour scanning random channels.  or i'll sit in my tent and blaze doing nothing and just thinking "its alllllllll out there, and im under-equipped"      like i said, retarded.
but ive been waiting for something like this.   i'll never get why top dollar game companies cant make a game like fonline.

If they did what would be the point of making any more games?  That means -$ for them in the long run.  A huge company can't survive off of one mmo, they need those BIG sales like Halo to keep chuckin.

Remember, radio channel 0 (zero) is the unofficial Radio Wasteland.  That's the channel that everybody is on, if they're not on their gang channel.  So broadcast on that, if you want to chat to folks.

the worst string of bad luck 45 minutes can give me does not help my sunny disposition.    laying there slowly regenerating health points affords me time to laugh at my newb self, because anything else leads to tears. :'(           damn you vc caravan for using burst fire.   you looted your enemy, and left me to die.

i think the coolest part of this game is the player driven drama.   i cant think of a better word than drama.    i dunno, i watched a friend of mine play WoW for about 5 minutes before i knew i hated it.    everything just seemed to be "do what the game wants"  and i didnt see anything controlled or changed by players. maybe i didnt give it enough time, but with the way the game LOOKS, who would want to?  ugly ugly game.

here, players have so much control.   in the short time ive been here, ive been feeling like this is the fallout ive always wanted to play.

sure, ive been keeping out of sight, laying low, as to not attract pk'ers, and i know im going to have to deal with that sooner or later, but thats ok.   im sure if i wasnt nervous about leaving the tent, i wouldnt consider it much of a wasteland.  not excusing pk'ers, but for some strange reason, they seem to "fit" here.     i know, big words from someone who hasnt yet ripped out their hair in frustration,  but its cool feeling like anything could happen outside my tent.  makes the world seem bigger anyhow!!

lol, only with the help from experienced players, with fast cars, have i seen the southern half of the map.  got pk'd (damn you senken63, no reason for that!! i had nothing!! lol  8)  )     and that was ok, i got to scrounge for radio parts until i built one, and used it to call for a pickup.  after i got picked up, we rode around in the car lookin for him, talkin shit, messin with him on the radio he got from me, all that was missing was beer in the trunk :).    great fun.   good times.

im glad i dont have to restart my character after dying like ive heard you must do in EVE online. (i would love to play that some day)  even though that concept makes character life and death more valuable, i dont think i would last long here if i had to keep restarting.   as it stands,  i wouldnt change anything, save adding a few things im not alone in wanting to see.   im sure i havent played enough to see what other people regard as flaws in the numbers, but for now, im having the time of my life, and most of it comes from interacting with all of YOU.   cool things can happen when enough control is left to the payers, even if you have to have some griefing troll-monkeys somewhere in the mix.

worth it.    to everyone ive met so far, (except senken63 :P)  thanks for help and info, and offering free guns when you recognized my name.

i'll be playing this all night, girlfriend can bitch all she wants.

                                          TL;DR?     fuck bethesda!!!     yay Fonline 2238!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I for one know how to control the stock prices in WoW so that you can make money really fast. WRT graphics, this is what we get when we add cool lighting and shading effects to models and textures created so that they would run on low-cost computers from 2004, and we even enforce these effects so that the game would never again run on these computers.
Title: Re: dont know how i missed this for so long.
Post by: Alec Ramsey on April 06, 2011, 06:10:51 am
sorry for being a layman,  but could you explain what you meant about the wrt graphics?  i didnt quite understand what you meant about enforcing the effects so that they wouldnt run on the comps?

im not tech savvy at all, but im always willing to listen and understand.

the way the game LOOKS, who would want to?  ugly ugly game.
WoW was made in 2004 and its system requirements are quite low (except for HDD because WoW takes up anything >20GB varying per non-trial user) and apropriate for those times.
So goes:
Windows XP or newer incl. Server editions (amd64 and x86 only)
Pentium 4 @ 1.3GHz or Athlon XP 1500+ (not physically 1.5GHz, actually below 1.5GHz, but working just as 1.5GHz Pentium)
1GB RAM (a lot for those times btw)
GeForce 5 or Radeon 9xxx (where x is element of [0,9] fitting actual models)

WoW has been enriched with HDR, which gives some enormous lighting effects. HDR is not natively supported by anything older than GeForce 6 and Radeon X (the series from X300 to X850), which voids some of its functionality for some people already. WoW has a lot of materials shovelled (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shovelware) from Warcraft 3, which brings in the models and textures from 2002. Huge amounts of objects also stress the graphic card, so normally users would turn down the effects to minimum to maintain smooth frame rate. This does not happen in the wilderness or dungeons, but in cities.

OH. I didn't notice the date when I first read. I actually thought for a millisecond that someone could just get into the game and find that it was fun.
Haha, well played, sir. Well played.

That shadowrun mmo interested me, though. Shadowrun is the shit. I went into their forums and it seems kinda... Dead. In 4 years they're just releasing an Alpha client. I wish works like that were more encouraged. I know a bleach MMO which is going by the same pace, years over years of development with little progress, since it's like 3~5 people working "hard" (they aren't getting profit so they still need to make a living) and some volunteers.

what do you mean about the date?

April's fool.

I was kidding. It was an, apparently unfortunate, anecdote.

Anyway, I was just like you when I found out about the game's first open beta test about 2 years ago. You'll learn quickly that this game isn't as far as amusing as it seems. Yeah, it can be fun, and it HAS LOTS of potential, but you'll notice soon enough that what you're playing isn't a final product, but a VERY early phase of the game. It can and most likely WILL be frustrating often, but still, I hope you enjoy. We're missing that spirit here.

oooooohhh..... NNNOOOOOOOWWWWW   i know what you guys were talkin about.

llike when you try to mine all day but every time you come out there is someone waiting to take your shit.

so you read, and try to find a safe mine which i guess there really isnt one.  but  you build a tent near redding after relocating all your stuff.
too bad the guards arent in the mines.
this PK'er named Conan  -follows- me -into- the- mine-  he KNEW i had nothing yet, but a sledge.

kills me anyways.   im laying there between 0 and -20, i suppose that wasnt enough, so he hits me until im dead. thanks conan, im sure that sledge was worth it.

40 min worth of gathering materials stolen often, and now my last sledge.    a DOC MARTEN STOMP on your scaggy balls, conan, i hope someone keys your car and kicks your dog.

cretin.

anyways, yeah i'll be jaded soon.   still fun game though.

Junktown (it has better guards now), NCR, and Klamath mines are guarded, if you aren't mining HQ.
Gecko is probably the safest (AKA most-dead) unguarded mine.

damn.   those are far.    its weird though.    now i can see the allure of camping mines and blasting people.  because who wants to be the one getting blasted?

instead of making a character that crafts, i should have made a combat character that takes what YOU craft.  its enough to turn one to the dark side.

Not that you can't find nice poeple who won't blast you... I generally dont shoot miners cus i dont need the materials, I just kill guys in gear and get what i need that way :D.  However having mercenaries with me on auto attack is another story....

yeah ive found enough cool people on here who liek to work together, its not all bad.  i like the game,  im just steering clear of mines unless im escorted.  shame though, would like to move about redding freely under player security, that would have been really cool to do.     screw it though,  im back to trusting no factions at all.   probably smarter anyways.    guess im just mad for thinking there was a safe place that wasnt my tent, is all....im over it.

Best way to get a faction you can always trust is get your friends to play with you.

nah i know, i went to redding, everything pointed to that being safest one.

It's the safest of unsafe. You can ask someone on main street to check out mine while you mining.

lol, propaganda to poor noob :< All pkers that come to redding hide in mine, its hell not safest mine. Vault city mine is safest for sure, not even talking about pkers, but talking about people there at all, you can hardly meet anyone there at current stage of game, because everyone already has what they need.

exactly, i dont even have a chance to ask, they just shoot me without caring who i am.   they say "oh it must have been something you did".

so lame.

Of course it's safe since the squad which made this nice sign is anti-PK.

Really safe they said.

Use common sense.  Pictures with obvious alterations lack a certain credibility and readily believing into it is a little... ahem.

Went over shooped evidence in 2008. Hey let's go back to having CamStudio ready all the time. Or have a camera ready at all times to take photos of the screen.

Reading too much into it; common failing on here. I simply mean: if it has obvious blacking of names or crapping up of the picture, then be suspect of it.

Yep, I second the motion that the game's amazing. It's damn hard though. I'm a total noob although I've finished F1 and 2 like 5 times. But What I really like about it it's a real RPG experience. Yesterday I sucked dick in NCR for 10mm ammo... I pissed my pants laughing when I offered to suck dick for ammo and some guy dropped some at his feet and I had to reach down for it so it actually looked like I'm playing his flute. Thing I don't like though is getting a burst in the back by some random ass hole when I'm using the workbench... and those damn thieves... I mean life in the wastes is hard enough without you parasites, and I'm amazed how many poeople choose this game style. Is it caused by frustrations IRL or something? Anyway big thanks to the guys that help bluesuits out. I know I will help out someone if I can.

yeah, this is my favorite online rpg, nothing beats this..        when i see bluesuits getting some help, thats awesome because help is needed in this game if youre starting out.    i was shoveling shit when someone dropped 1000 caps at my feet (thanks dok!!!)  and other poeple have offered to help in all kinds of ways.  i never miss an opportunity to show new people how to use radio, how to gather stuff......and i always hook new people with brahmin hides when i can.
i cant wait for new additions to the gameplay, im going to play 2238 until the real bombs drop.

Same. Strangely, despite all my reservations and bitching about this game and its mechanics, I still enjoy it.  Few Multiplayer games attract me of all these new ones, mostly because... I dunno, the graphics don't attract me. And I want -more-.  This offers a little difference, and I like it.  Tis good to see others who like this too, I just wish them luck in retaining that interest and sticking with the community. ;)

this is the best MMO cause its not about quests and not about lvling its about the people and the gangs of the server no other MMO is like that and griding quests with a "guild" is so lame but camping reno with a "gang" its the best

Sadly enough, this game is based alot on your level and one big function in this game is the quest system.
Most of the people on the server cares alot about level and they can't see the potential some new players have
due to the fact that they're not high level or haven't got posts on the forum.

I, however, care about the knowledge players have about the game and the potential a player has.
I don't care that much about level... Having friends helping you out, is much more important.

This game is awesome however and has alot of features other games just can dream about!

i read the manual and the forum when i was newbie, manual only affort and overview, but is really an artistic and profesional job, same style like the original, thanks to the one who did it (i think is lexx).

This game is awesome, and has to many potential, its one of the two MMO that gain my interest, and i try a lot. believe me this is better than WoW, warhammer or EVE. (unfortunately i think that Magicka is even better, and i hate mitology games... but that "Vietnam" was just unincredible). I play fonline even having BFBC2 or Reach or any COD, shooters become boring with the time but this game not.

It still having problems with the combat sistem, but since is a in-working game we always see new content, sincerously i dont expext that this game go out from the beta, but this is nice.

about lvls, i only have one alt at lvl21. its funny because when im lvling a char i imagine another char and make it, TC chars are very squematized, but in the wastes you can use a lot of builts that work really good, its even better than other games

yeah, developers should have an appreciation thread, if theres not one already....cant believe this is done for no money at all.  thanks developers, thanks russia.

every day i meet more and more people who are just starting out near vc.   i guess this game is growing.   im never playing another mmorpg.   bethesda couldnt do this isf they tried.   they are too clueless to even lknow where to begin.

Actually this game is made by many people from different countries, not only by people from Russia :/ As far as I know, the only Russian is Cvet, and he made only the engine.
