I've read old Russian topics and found amazing ghoul's head texture.
http://xmages.net/upload/4decd7fd.jpg (http://xmages.net/upload/4decd7fd.jpg)
If somebody will make the rest body - it the job will be complete.
We can use Van Buren normal or wiry human models for ghouls.

can you make it more red for the red-slow ghouls(original in F1)

Hum... I'm going to play the party-breaker again but isn't it a lot different than Fallout 1&2 sprites? I mean, the skin is white, and it has hair. It's not similar to this (http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/images/b/bc/Ghoul-fix.gif), this (http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/images/c/cd/Lenny-fix.gif) or this (http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/images/8/8d/Glowing_one-fix.gif), is it? (Sorry if it has already been discussed somewhere, was unable to find anything.)
-
Hair on ghouls isn't wrong. But I agree that the texture right now kind of looks not like a fallouty ghoul. :p

Doesn't mean that all ghouls should look like this, but it's the direction we should try to go.
-
Graf: yeah, kinda like that
Lexx: probably, but all the ghouls you showned have a missing eye, we need from time to time ghouls with both eyes
Izual:it looks a little bit, but as you can see on the red ghoul and Harold&Set, we shoud have a better look at there skull

Read:

-
I think the reason they look so similar is because of development cost, they probably made a "base" model for ghoul head to save time and then just changed it a bit. So the same eye is missing in Harold and Seth.
-
So, to make it clear - is the goal to make ghouls similar to the talking heads, or to the game sprites?

both, but the talking hears are some sort of "whorst case scenario" for a ghoul

It's not only the ghouls. Most talking heads in Fallout 1 are copies of each other and just slightly modified / rendered in a different perspective. Same in Fallout 2--- the old elder from Arroyo is nearly the same head as Tandi in the NCR, etc.

Lets dig up the thread ;D
How about this one as a ghoul?
(http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6745/ghoulteszt.jpg) (http://img192.imageshack.us/i/ghoulteszt.jpg/)
I know whats with the old one well ::) that used part of the original critter and texture was two small (40x40)
This one has better texture face is painted from Seth talking head I will need to change it to an original so it won't look like a copy.
Hope it looks sprite like enough will make the glowing out look too but first I concentrate on a supermutant...
-
dress it up and it will be awesome
this one is a perfect base for all the ghoul cloth and armor
Edit: if you can remember, you can give to Lenny all the armors in the game and he can wear them(including BA, PA, MA)
-
I remember he was one of the best followers alongside Marcus they had some nice comments toward each other. I plan to take the armors from the human meshes and merge them with the ghoul, there will be a nude texture (this one) and I plan to make two different clothed version short trouser and short trouser plus teared shirt
-
damn they look ugly :D ugly as ghouls should look, good job :>
but what about other ghoul skins, the lenny skin and glowing one ?
-
How about this one as a ghoul?
It's a LEGEND... wait for it ...DARY ;D Seriously, it looks great, just as a ghoul should look like. Do you mind to send it to me, so I can try to get it in-game for a few tests?

About the other skins they will be made from this one at least the glowing one which will be made with messing with the colors, about the Lenny skin I think it will be a totally new texture.

Hope obj format is ok the model doesn't have armature yet its good you mentioned the testing its definitely needed. As usual i uploaded to 2shared links below
http://www.2shared.com/file/57V5rSle/ghoul.html
I'm looking forward to see an in game screen shot hope the model will blend in to the area.
-
Some progress on trouser ghoul and glowing one the first need to be flipped later one will need some more glowing parts at chest area but they are on the road now.
(http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/7340/showul.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/818/showul.jpg/)
Next stage is close see the simple armature this one should work I think.
(http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/1845/bonestructure.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/703/bonestructure.jpg/)
Comment needed mostly on the bone structure btw if I haven't said I'm on blender
-
I don't know anything really about bones and animations, but it looks good to me :/
-
awesome man!!!
edit: how about female ghouls?
-

Maybe a texture will be enough?
-
how about female ghouls?
I'm 95% sure, that there wasn't any female ghouls in any of canonic Fallout games.
-
There are (we have at least one in 2238 as well). But you don't see any real difference in their bodyform.
-
only cuz they had the same spite
but for female ghouls just increas the bust size and make them a bit hourglass shape, not veary hard to do modificasion

look at the new Fallouts, you can make the diference of female and male ghouls, why don't we make them a bit diferent here too?

the only real difference is characters voice. No need to bother in making them different.

yup, i agree with vederas
-
Why won't you just reskin the human model?
-
ghouls need different animations in first place, like running :>
-
Why won't you just reskin the human model?
Maybe because ghouls aren't really humans? They are fleshy, you can see rib bones squizing trough the flesh and other stuff. I'm against making a ghoul a skin for normal human model.

Just pitched in the idea. That's how they did ghouls in fallout 3/NV. I mean the talkable intelligent ghouls. Sure ferals are a different story

in the cannon Fallout there are no ferals
-
in the cannon Fallout there are no ferals
in fallout 1 there were somewhat like that in necropolis. Those ghouls standing in small groups attacked players randomly without a reason :)
-
Yes, vedaras is right. Just because they aren't called the exact name it doesn't mean they aren't feral. You could get screwed over in random encounters too etc.Or, look at the Endless Walkers and such.
-
kk, tnx for iluminating me
-
Its not the same ghoul but here is a sample animation for movements some could be familiar from previous posts I was lazy to render the new ones only
This was an earlier model with different poly counts and topology the new ghoul looks better in my eyes and will use the animations from this char.
-
awesome animations, and the science ghoul is nice
how about we make scentist armor(aka Lab Coat)
you can find them in Fallout 3 (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vault_lab_uniform_(Fallout_3)) and even in fallout 2 (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Jones_(Fallout_2))

So will it be possible to equip ghoul models with human armour?
I was hoping that once we go 3D it would be possible to bring back PC's turning into ghouls since the problem with ghoul sprites being too limited would no longer be an issue.
-
So will it be possible to equip ghoul models with human armour?
I believe it's a good idea to let ghouls ability to equip light and medium armors (such as leather jacket, leather armor, ranger armor) and some specific, available for the ghouls only armors.
-
Why not heavy, like combat or power armor, in fot they share sprites with human.
If ghouls will be playable race, then we need female.

would female ghouls really look that different from male ghouls?

Are you saying that all ghouls look alike? Racist! :P

Racism isn't the same as sexism. Why not heavy, like combat or power armor, in fot they share sprites with human.
FO:T is far from original Fallouts. I don't see a way a fragile ghoul with 6 max strength (like in FO:T) can wear something that is about the same weight if not even more than themselves.
-
I guess ghouls will have female/male animations, both limping.
-
Ghouls are not a race, they are humans, with severe radiation sickness, extreme necrosis, probably a lot of pain, and many other difficulties. So I don't think they could run when they can barely stand on their feet. Talking about roleplay, it is known that somehow they developed a great sense of sight -though I don't know the reason- but, other than that, I dont think there could be any other positive stuff. On the negative side, they are weak, VERY weak, and slow, which is not good.
-
It's just a game, and ghouls are just fiction. I doubt anyone would survive like that, and even if they did, how possibly it'd ever extend their lifespan.
Well it's a job for developers to set up this kind of stuff and decide what will do. But I personally would suggest to study Necropolis as much as possible, for it is done by the very original crew, and it is where the idea of them appeared in it's first and purest form.
If you like the idea of them having timespan of several hundred years, being generaly good mechanics and snipers, no problem.
And well, ghouls would probably in this incairnation benefit from power armors the best, if they ever happen to have access to them. Their technical knowledge would allow them to maintain them, their radiance immunity would make those operations much easier, and mainly, equipping powered armor would allow them to reqain much of their lost mobility. Like becomming kind of cyborgs or something.
-
Ghouls like herald are typically wise because they have been around the block so many times with their extended lifespan. Perhaps a slightly raised level cap could simulate this kind of wisdom for PC ghouls. Its one of the balancing factors for ghouls, their knowledge that is, and with the RT system we have, not being able to run is a pretty big deal making ghouls very hard to overpower as it is.
Also a ghouls physiology is a little more agile than a humans, i.e. fingers falling off don't seem to be a big deal, eyeball's just get popped back in etc. For that reason perhaps an increased healing rate would be a fair boost for ghouls as well.
-

harold is not a goul but a unique FEV mutant in mid stage of severe mutation.
-
Harold uses the same model as Seth, and therefore his image is of same value.
-
i've tried to make such ghoul but i'm not happy with result, i'm trying to do it better in free time, first high and then retopology it to low poly

if I made something better I will post it here and source files to tracker

This one looks very good already, Baael. Keep up the good work! :)
-
At first I was against the coming of 3d.
But now looking at these threads.
Keep up the good work.
The talking heads should have had that art style in f3/nv.

but, if you are a ghoul with low radiation and low necrosis? like lenny? you can run
the middle of ghouls in this pic, could run no?

I guess he could run , but it would be still slower than a healthy human. Maybe the ones that use spears could be the agile ones, it would be harder to escape from them that way.
;)

what graphic program u use?

Its Zbrush as I see. There is a free alternative for this called Sculptriss though the trial version is a good go too. Its more less like when you do clay models quite an effective tool to make realistic organic models.

Yeah, Sculptris is also easier to learn and handles rendering of highpoly better than Blender, however ol' B. still can get the job done, too. Whatever.
Hey, you can surely explain why the highpoly is needed in FOnline, even if the game engine won't handle it... Not just for item icons.
-
This is Sculptris (no money for ZBrush now ;) ) Ingame models are low poly, but You can make much better textures (and shaders) when You retopology highpoly to lowpoly, and it is fun (if You like it ;) )
-
With this tool, is it possible to bake a normal map for the character model musculature?
-
yes
i've found example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMG6ZGiukTs

Pretty sure the reason given that ghouls can't operate power armour is their limbs would get ripped apart by the hydraulic controls.
