Title: The Dynamic Server
Post by: NastyKhan on January 13, 2011, 06:56:46 pm
I just got an idea today, about what could be added to FOnline 2238 to make it more original and exciting. I called it: The Dynamic Server. The main different between a dynamic and normal server would be:

1. Limited time of playing. The dynamic server would reset (wipe) after every.. let say.. 100 calendar days. The current 'time left' could be seen in pipboy, just like in fallout 1.
2. The technology level will increase during the server age.

Its not a REPLACEMENT. It's just a SECOND server.

For example:
Day 1:
The server resets.
The Dark Ages begin - this period is based on the world of Mad Max. The technology level is low, and there are only two towns. Players are spending free time exploring, earning cash and raiding one of the town while defending the second one.
Towns: Junktown and Klamath are only available towns.
Weapons: Pipe rifle, shotgun, mauser, knife, brass knuckles and other T0/T1 junk.
Armors: Leather Jacket is available.
Other: Tents are available.

Day 2-19: New weapons and places become available slowly.

About day 20:
The Medieval Ages begin - this period is started by discovering Hub as well as combat armor, assault rifle, combat shotgun, AP ammo and other powerful stuff. The world is based on Fallout 1 universe. Technology level is moderate and the gangs begin to slowly appear. Hub is known as the most powerful place.
Towns: Most of small town are available, like Necropolis, Den, Modoc, Redding etc. The Hub is known as the most powerful of all and the only 'big one'.
Weapons: combat shotgun, assault rifle, sniper rifle, minigun, flamer, laser rifle, plasma rifle and most of fallout 1 weapons are available
Armors: Leather jacket, leather armor, metal armor and combat armor are available
Other: TC can be made using stuff like CA, Metal armor, a.riffle, s.rifle, minigun and such. Some cars are available.

Day 21-49: New stuff from time to time.

About day 50:
The Renessaince begins - this stage is based on fallout 2 and FOnline 2238 universe and begins with discovering the BoS as well as some of Big Towns.
Towns: Reno, Vault City, NCR, Broken Hills, Gun Runners, Brotherhood of steel.
Weapons: All 'upgraded' guns like scoped h.rifle, avenger minigun, electromag pistol etc.
Armors: All Mk2 armors and Brotherhood armor become available.
Other: TC can be made on standard rules. All cars available. Gang bases can be bought.

Day 51-89: Another towns and guns become available.

About day 90:
The Enlightenment age begins with discovering the Enclave and San francisco.
Towns: Glow, San francisco, Navarro etc.
Weapons: Say hello to turbo plasma rifle, bozar and other high-tec shit.
Armors: Power armors become available. First the t51-b's, then Advanced.

Day 100: Wipe again.

That is of course only a sketch (the monsters could be affected as well, the moments of advances could be randomized to make it more unpredictible, the order of discovered towns could be switched etc), but I think the idea itself is pretty good and should be considered.

Not bad at all, but you'll never see it on 2238.

I found it really good. With a good story line, and well represented IG, it would be awesome.

A server like this would be quite interesting, but i have to agree around 150 days would be nice, extended begginer time would be quite fun.

The idea is ok but what's the point of discussing it here if you're not actually suggesting it to be implemented in 2238?

Great idea :) I wonder to see that on 2238 someday. +1 to make the Dark ages much longer. In fact - fights with only T0/T1 weapons in Fonline is what I want to see most of all.
Also, if this will be ever implemented, it would be nice to have some level limitations for each age, for example:
--------
The Dark Ages: maximum level 6
The Medieval Ages: maximum level 12
The Renessaince: maximum level 18
The Enlightenment age: maximum level 21
-------

Very good idea for server but if devs don't want add it on 2238 server maybe other devs from other servers make it :)

It wont work:
First era - "OMG, this iz teh best server evah".
Second era - "Nice, Im having fun".
Third era - "Boooooooring".

People will get bored playing it over and over again with the same rules applied. Most of us like the progress in every MMO, even if it takes months of playing.

It would be nice if someone turn this idea into a real server, but personally, I dont want "main" server to be changed

I like that level cap idea of Graf.

And:What do you mean?
He mean about other servers and other developers who can make your system in their own servers.

I see. Well that would be cool :)

But i still think that people of 2238 would like that thing. If not regulary then maybe once (one session/era) only?

I think it is an intresting idea. Acually we have wipe every 100-200 days right now  :P I like the weapon progress. I would like to evolve this idea a bit though.

In this idea what would be important in my opinion would be scenarios and GM role. Not only weapon progress. Everything should be post planned for each session (like enclave invasion, or raiders taking NCR or whatever it will be) with possibly few options (so GMs can choose the one most fitting current world state), also with weapons, what weapon should appear when and why would be better then just all of the sudden. In that kind of session i think a story driven world with active GMs is a lot better (new story every wipe). But all in the end should be activated by GMs, that will have to see if the time is really right when it comes to it, also have abilitiy to manipulate the planned "happening" a bit to fit current state of the world, possible as much interactive towards players as possible.

For exemple, the plan set for this session late happening is NCR invades north, they recruit massive army from players and GM is the "general" and this is planned for lets say day 115 (if sessions would be 150). But, a player gang that lets say owns all towns in north, attacks NCR at day 105. Then a GM can adjust this to fit the current state of the world and make the start time of happening at 106 instead, also manupulates the happening by saying for exemple "We must stop *gang* raids once for all!".

Weapons, i think a good idea would be when lets say day 80 is the day where the most advanced weapons are to become avalible, then GMs could for exemple place a blueprint in a military base. Or, make a encounter with a crashed vertibird with a blueprint. Then the blueprint will spread, if a player hides the blueprint for himself not selling it or giving it, GMs have to spawn another one someplace.

Well, a very GM driven world i think, but with right GMs i think this is not a problem at all  8)

I Would play it, Not as much as 2238 Though.

Great idea, but  I have an even better one.
Instead of the game advancing by itself we get to choose when we want to advance "age". Once you gain the necessary exp to advance in tech the game asks you if you wish to advance in age, the previous age's towns will become invisible to you and you cannot encounter players in in the more barbaric age once you advance in age, however in you choose to not advance in age you gain no more experience until you press the "age advancement" button and thus keepiung a balacedish wasteland. This would make it easier for new players to get used to the game, and allows hardcore RPers to stay in one age indefinetly just because of the atmosphere of it.

Nah, it's not better. Fonline doesn't have so many players to divide them by "ages".
