Bottom left says connecting to server then connection established, authentication...This is the error you get when you are not on the right server, afaik. Check in FOConfig.exe (NET tab) that your "Game Server Host" is 94.23.237.127 and port 2238.
heya, just found out about this game and I'm pretty excited, I ust have a few noob questions though. I have the master.dat downloaded, but the game says it can't find it during start up. how can I great the correct path for the game to find the .dat file? anybody? Thanks
oh thanks, that worked. I just had to reinstalled F2 and make the paths from there. the only problem is, now I keep getting the ERROR ERROR ERROR messages, and even if I delete all the extra .caches it still will not connect. ideas?

Okay, have been waiting for this game ever since I got hooked on Fallout 2 back in the day. Got discouraged when the game wouldn't load 1st few times, but eventually got in. Made a new profile, and was ready to go... and entered the game to see a basement with me standing there. But my character was a fiery orange pixelated... something. And I couldn't move anywhere (it said error when trying to click a place to walk to with the walk command enable, the red circle thing). I could only examine objects in the room. So I can't play the game. Any help?

Now I have got onto the main screen where I can register or enter, registered a character with a password, press enter, then it goes onto a loading screen for a few moments before returning back to the original screen.
Bottom left says connecting to server then connection established, authentication...
This is when it seems it is booting me back to the main screen. Any advice? :)

Why do I keep on getting "Fallout launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close." message whenever I try to open up the Falloutonline launcher?

Run the updater (Updater.exe) from the game folder, if it says that it updated the launcher, try running it again, if it crashes, paste the text in Launcher.log here.

Restart the game and it should work properly. If the problem persists, delete the 94.23.237.127.2238.cache file in the data folder of your FOnline installation. Do NOT delete default.cache
I've been unable to log in for an hour or so. It says that I need to wait for 10 minutes before relogging. But I had waited ten minutes time and time again. Servers are online, so that can't be it. Anybody know what this is?
Before the new update I just started the game yesterday, With the new update it tells me it cannot save FOnline.exe? Is there any ways to fix this?
Hi all! I have updated 10 minutes ago the newest update files, but once i have done it, i cannot login. MY name and my password were already typed automatically in the login screen (as always) but everytime i try to play, it says "INCORRECT LOGIN OR PASSWORD"...
But it is impossible! i have checked the banned people list (to be sure that no error happenned) but i am not in the list, so i guess that the problem might be other.
I have try to re-write my nick and password, but nothing works.

Your character is deleted because there was a wipe. You have to register an new character.

Damn, I can't relogin my chars because I always have "you can't relogin with another account now. Wait 10 minutes" fucking message, tough I didn't played for two days and have wait more than 10 min after getting the message. I play on linux, and this is the first time it happen to me (haven't done any update).

got a problem, i was playing just fine this morning, but then i had to update and now the game is not even launching, when i click on play the screen goes black for a second and then it goes back to the launcher.

Try to change in FOnline.cfg "PatchDatPath=fonline.dat" to "PatchDatPath=faction.zip"

So I recently downloaded this game and updated and configured. But when I try to launch the game a grey screen comes up for a second then it dissapears and nothing happens. Some other people have also reported this but for diffrent error messages. I looked through my files and saw that there was a log.

From what I see it is having trouble loading a sprite but I do not know why. If I may ask kindly, can someone help out?

I have uninstalled Fonline then reinstalled it, I have uninstalled .NET framework and reinstalled it, nothing seems to work.

This error is only due to wrong graphic drivers installed/outdated drivers.It's certainly not.

messing with it how? did you just do what it told you or did you try your own method? I already edit the fonline.cfg file like i was supposed to but it dident fix anything.

The config file is as expected.
I changed the resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600 and it worked.
It seems 1024x768 has some problem.

I have the F2 instaled, with a patch for read all in spanish (This patch includes the UK 1.2 update).
May this patch cause problems? I just reinstall Framework, i have copy the master and critter archives to Fonline, i revised the conection address and port.. And my problem is still the same, grey windows pop up and then, again in the desktop with the launcher window.
Im downloading the last version of my GT8500, but if this doesnt work, maeby the problem its the "spanish" fan version for read all text of F2, so if with the reinstall without that patch, Fonline works, ill post again and copy and advice for the rest of spanish players.

In the FOnline.cfg file, find the line "PatchDatPath=fonline.dat" and change it to "PatchDatPath=faction.zip".I did that, now theres Gray Screen for second, then Loading Screen for second and then it shutdown -.-'.
Ok when I try to update I get a meesage that says "downloading data/scripts/client_parameters.dll and then Unable to save file" the text on the launcher says to create the folder scripts in /data, but i have no idea what this means or how to go about doing it. can anyone tell me what to do?

I just installed and updated the game. But, I don't know how to fix the "Downloading data/scripts/client_parameters.dll. Size: 23 kb.

Try right-clicking the game and setting it to run in administrative mode. Might be some issues with file permissions.
If that doesn't work, try using the new setup http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=11139.0 and choose the option to copy master/critter dats in the installation.

I had the common problem that I could do anything but start the game. However, I also couldn't uninstall the game. I have no idea where the files are saved (they aren't in the folder I told the downloader to save them to), and when I tried to re-download the client it just opened up the launcher again with the same problems.

Recently downloaded and installed FOnline, did the .dat changes in FOConfig.exe but I'm finding that it still isn't detecting master.dat
Moved both .dat files into the game folder which is under C:/Games which was the default.
Also updated the game before trying to play.
I'm running Windows XP (I think) Service Pack 3.
Any help would be most welcomed and further info from my end can be provided on request.

Note : Copy/pasting the two .dat files in your FOnline folder might be a good idea.
Click on the upper arrow, browse to your Master.dat, select it. Click on the bottom arrow, browse yo your Critter.dat, select it.

I am having the same problem with my master.dat file. I have done all of the suggested ways, it still wont work. Sorry for being a bother.Are you sure that it is Fallout 2 master.dat file?
Hi, just heard about this game from some people over at the Nexus, huge fan of the old Fallout games, dusted off my Fallout 2 disc, installed the client, updated and registered, but it still won't let me log in, saying "Incorrect login or password." even though I know for a fact I put them in right (did the ctrl thing and all that to make sure).
Attempted to make a new account identical in case it didn't register me the first time, but sure enough It said there was already an account with that login.
This is extremely annoying.
Problem solved for me. Must've been some kind of permission issue.

I can't create a name or password on registration, it is rather annoying me.

That should be enough to play FOnline (If you have Master.dat, Critter.dat and music folder)

New Computer, windows seven, updated Fallout online, try to register, but there is no text like "registration sucesfull" or so like it was before ,wenn i try to login , for a second came loading screen and then back to login , also the "authentification"-message

Is the game updated? I am not sure about it, but name of the version in that log seems to be different than "version 0320-FF", that one will be able to read in the game after he presses F1 button.i tried to update but aftet the attempt to download a new file there comes "unable to save file" ??
This is the error you get when you are not on the right server, afaik. Check in FOConfig.exe (NET tab) that your "Game Server Host" is 94.23.237.127 and port 2238.
Also, in "Proxy" (below "Game Server"), make sure you chose None Host.
Hi. I have a problem. I cannot log in. The game is installed and I get in to the screen where it says play, registration, options, credits, exit. I press register, make a character. Press done. I come back to the first screen again and I put my name and my password and then press play. It says I have the wrong pass/name. And I've been trying to create several characters. It's like my characters are not registered when I press done.

At first, I must say, I do have a crappy computer, yet I managed to run on it some things that are surely not supposed to run.

Did you knew, that "Fallout 1" ".dat" files does not work for "Fonline"? Yeah, you need to use "Fallout 2" ones. At least that's how I was able to fix my first issue. Happy about it, clicked PLAY from the launcher. Awesome fallout pic, and we are back with the launcher again. Let's try again, and maybe again. Ok, enough. Let's call Dr.Google! Yey. Finally I am here, in this thread, draining my eyes with 17 pages of text. Even drifting to other pages, following many repeated instructions, updating, deleting evil cache, rechecking hosts ports and proxies and all, just to browse random "FOnline.exe" startup pictures over and over. Later on, one of posts gave me idea to reduce resolution even below 800x600, to 640x480. And what do you know? Success! Finally I got to menu, where I can click a button. Then a scream is heard: "The game might not run properly if resolution is lower than 800x600 or greater than 1280x1024!". How very true... I see my 640x480 pixels. But the rest of 800x600 pixels are beyond my vision range. I was sure I couldn't contain them in my screen using physical force, but that was a thought... Let's try with 800x600 again. Ends with another random pic. Other resolutions? *** in a face. 640x480 again? Still do not fit... Ok... Continuing with google rape I got fed up more and more until I quit. Just right before I was going to do few healing headbangs, I happened to do, what a sane person with calming tone would call in a one word: "amassivemouseclickingmadnessintheFOnlineconfiguratorv230focusingonvideosettingswith800x600resolution". Let's click once again PLAY, before I "shoot down". WADDAYANAW? All is happy, all pixels firmly holding in their rightful positions. What a wee! Let's create my ill-fated character with useless perks and messed-up skills. All is good, character made and registered. Let's click the ultimate PLAY button. For doing so, I was face to face with the lovely, yet ultimately depressing view. Oh no, Marko, it wasn't the wastelands at all. It was the agony, widely known as the "Blue Screen Of Death", telling me about "nv4disp.dll" and stuff.
Was it because of my characters low luck and jinxed? Or maybe perception wasn't high enough to sense a trap behind a PLAY button? Well, we will never now, as my bleeding hands are no longer able to try create a new character with different, more lucky attributes... With the last breath, my head lands on alt+s

Did you get this solved yet? I had the same problem and solved it by changing a video setting on my laptop. Try checking video properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot and see if you can increase your hardware acceleration at all. I bumped the slider up 1 notch and then my game loaded just fine.
Something is fucked up as most of the time that first link does not work, when it does I click it and it just takes me to a cannot connect screen.Strange, I'm not having any problems with it. You have got Fallout 2s Master and Critter files haven't you?

Hi Im getting this prompt
'Datafiles2238.cfg' not found. Run Updater.exe.
The updater says Im up to date.. And pretty sure it was working beore the wipe, and pretty sure i updated all the neccessary files after the wipe as well. The mouse pointer disapears when the Game starts running... Can anyone help?! .. Thanks.

Could be the server just went down. Personally, I cannot see any reason for overwriting old files. If you want to just play, it's enough to follow step-by-step instructions spread all around.Tried that, believe me. When I first got to the login screen and it appeared to function normally, I also assumed the server was just down when I could not log in. However, after I could not log in for a few days, while it appears other players are able to play judging by the their posts on this forum, I assume it must be a different issue.
Hello everyone. I have a problem like everyone in this thread. What im supose to do to finaly run this game after wipe? I downloaded postwipe client, i reinstal it about 20 times and im trying to do something with this for about 3 days and nothing works. Don't send me to read other posts because i already did. I read every single post about that issue. Nothing helped. The game shows menu properly, but when i try to register, than log in on registered account, it shows me for a half second some random loading screen and in the left bottom corner it says: "Connecting to server... , Conection established, authentication..." every single time. Im tired of making this game work, i need help. I have this problem when trying to play the game: Some files are missing (Datafiles2238, Faction, Factioncritters, faction001)
I'm trying to update it, and I got to the part of downloading the "faction.zip". But it just doesn't download. I've been a few hours waiting. Maybe I should have more patience

This is FULL client. Installation is 2 points, seriously.
1. Download and unzip the file FOnline2238.zip
2. Copy master.dat and critter.dat into data folder OR run FO2238Config.exe and in DataFiles tab specify paths to master.dat and critter.dat.
I don't know how to make it any simpler.
server is offlineIt tells me the server is Online...
Never mind then. Post that solution maybe, if you could.

:/ I get the .cfg error after I press play, then the client opens, I see the image screen, it goes to title screen but it's frozen and I have no cursor.when i load my game, it says data files Datafiles2238.cfg not found , run updater. well i run the updater it says nothing new is needed. and ill hit okay after playing the game on that error screen, itll load just fine then when i log in my screen is black showing me my character and all the selections but it will not show my mouse up on the screen. any help would like it asap....

7 ) went into 2238Config.exe and set paths for master.dat and critter.dat
8 ) still wont connect to server for updating or playing
EDIT: 8 ) put together without a space creates a emoticon. so i put a space inbetween it
However, the option to do so under the game tab in the configuration menu has disappeared.

So i just installed this mod was hoping to play and everything worked fine until the time came to actually play. I can even hit the button but it just says cannot connect to server. Do people even still play this? Do i need to download an additional file for the servers? ... I feel as if i am missing something.Try this, go in configure-net and change the host to 176.9.105.171 and the port to 2238 , if that doesn't work the server might of just been down.

:-\ Sorry to ask I'm very new to FOnline 2238 and when I tried connecting to a server that is up...It does this...First I start the game...Login into my character. Then connect to the server and I got the IP and Port. Then the game is loading...Then stop loading goes back to the main menu and says "Connection Established, Authentiction..." I'm sorry but I've never seen that before. And I never'd learned about it either...So can anyone help me? It won't go on the server or load it even known its the right account and character.The server was probably offline.

um.. did the host and port changed? after a while the game comes back to infinite loading. i even deleted all the files at the cache except the default.
do we have a new ip and port?
I got same problem today...
Try this:
Delete Cache Folder
Run Updater(wait untill everything will be downloaded)
Run game(you will see error screen so enter you login details and press enter)
Wait until game load up.
It must work i can play now.

i would like to receive help with my problem. When i click ''play'' in the launcher, the fonline window opens and then an error:
''Data file 'Data\critter.dat' not found. Run Updater.exe'' appears, but it really doesn't matter, because after some attempts to click ok the game starts. And there's the problem: there's no mouse cursor, so i cannot perform any action. When i type o keyboard i only type in the login. Can someone help me?

I believe that one of my characters has become corrupted in the database so I can not log in with them. When trying to log in with character "Anthi Moo", it fails with the message "Database error, contact server's administrator". Looking at other topics that have had this problem, it seems that someone needs to try and restore an uncorrupted version of the data.
Is this the proper place to be asking for that help, or should I be submitting a new thread asking for assistance?

Posting here is fine, also you can connect on another char and +requesthelp a GM, he or she could fix your problem from in-game.
The updater hasnt worked since the newest update... Hello. I got a problem. I was trying to registrate a character, but got stucked with error "Incorrect name. Probably is too long or short". Name was Stripless. I've tried to change to another, but error kept going. How can it be fixed?You probably put your name in the password box instead of the name box. Check and see, sometimes we all make simple mistakes. :P

ok so I am brand new to this but I post this on the mod db page I thought to post it on to places so hear I go.
I got to my title screen and made my guy then I input my info and pressed play.after a few seconds it says it was not posible to connect to the server.
At first I thought the server was down because it was Night time or something even though it said it was up. so I waited a day but nothing changed even though it says the server is online.
I also tried to update but it says cant conect to the server (94.23.237.127).
or does nothing when I click it.
Help?

never mind I found out the right server code and updated but now it says datafiles2238.cfg not found run updater exe.
Did you unpack it in empty folder and copied Fallout 2 Master.dat/Critter.dat files to data folder?Thanks you Sooooooo much it works now I did something wrong on my end now I will play it to see what I think.
It should work out of the box then (after you make a character).
This message is misleading, you should run FOConfig and FO2238Config (and set up paths to F2 dats)
and click save to create config files. It's already done in client I linked to and everything else is set up
correctly there (you just need to copy Master.dat/Critter.dat files to data folder).
One more possibility is that the path to game has some non-standard characters (Polish etc).
Use only plain keyboard characters.
Thanks, FYI to anyone else with this problem - the GM is not able to help. I was advised to go to Trac (bug tracker system) and find the existing ticket for this issue and leave a comment with the character name and the last login date. I was told that if there is a backup of the character, it may be restored during the next restart.

Once you're logged in, remember that if you have burning models you have to restart the game.
What causes burning people? Before, the background was all black and everyone burned. Now only everyone burns.
So odd. I just now logged in and yet the background is black and I can now see characters. I still do not have item photos, they are all replaced by red question boxes like Mario Hat tricks.
So a friend just told me about FO2238 and I'm trying to get it set up, though for some reason I can't use the updater, it just sits at initializing for hours and makes no progress. Is it an issue as to where It is placed (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 2) or an issue in the FO2238 Configure files?
hi guys... i did EVERITHING! and i keep getting the error screenDelete data/cache folder then run updater.
i double click the FOnline.exe and a screen appears with username and password and 5 buttons that says ERROR
tried all the buttons and one of them leads you to the character screen, whit all the numbers in zero (tried to use it but it cannot be used)
last button exits the program.... i dont know what to do.. please help!!!
