It is possible with some chance. He just needs to explore the same spot where you are.
Most easy way is to carry a radio and him getting the radio from his tent/ base after he revive. Then you can send him a distress signal.

I have search the entire town... AGAIN. and still wasnt able to find a crafting workbench in San Fran... If you ask me- It has none... could you be more specific with its location please.? :D

In most deserts, it rains.
Deserts are spreading. It is, because there is less rain? Of course no.
And most of deserts don't look like Duna planet, but just like we have in Fallout, rocky terrain with some grass.

/Edit: Actually I see that I wrote it. But it wasn't really what I meaned. It's true that it rains every now and then, but its scarce.
Beside this, you don't have to explain me how a desert looks like. It's not like I never seen one or two...
