Shovel wielding mass murderers!
« on: September 20, 2010, 01:10:08 pm »

This suggestion is about fixing a little pet peeve that I have and I believe I share this with at least a couple of FOnline players. Have you ever walked into a guarded city such as NCR, your pocket full of caps from the hour or so you spent shovelling Brahmin faeces? Well I have and I was just getting around to the bank when I got shot in the face at point blank range. Now I know what your thinking... Not another whiney topic about pkers!  :P  But this wasn't one of those cases... It was none other than this man:

But why would a helpful policeman attack an innocent bluesuit?
Well it was because of this...
He was a shovel wielding maniac!!!

Now I'm sorry for being so cynical on such a minor issue in a great game that many people alot more talented than 'I' have spent a very long time making. But why is a dung stained bluesuit with an old shovel public enemy number 1? It seems a bit odd that a 'newb' like me should be treated just like a Combat Armor wearing Pker with a Rocket Launcher. By now you have proberly guessed what I am suggesting...

Should some items be flagged as something other than weapons?

Now I'm not sure about the limitations of the engine or any other technological mumbo jumbo like that but is it possible to mark some items such as 'Old Shovel' and 'Sledgehammer' as something other than weapons. They are used in activities such as hygine and mining more than they are combat and I get a bit forgetful sometimes meaning that alot of hard work can go down the drain due to a disgruntled guard.

I'm not sure If there would be a work-around for this but it would be a appreciated edition to FOnline  :)

Hammers and shovels are in the weapon's category.
Apparently it's enough to set of the guards.
When walking into NCR, be sure to not hold anything that can even be considered a weapon or drugs in your hands.

Can you actually attack with a shovel? I dont know lol. Yeah, shovel is more of a tool than a weapon.

This may be more an oversight than anything else, I do not know.  A ways ago, other benign things were being shot at too, from drugs to other esoteric things.  I would hope though that shovels can be 'unclassed' as weapons though am not sure how feasible that really is.  <_>

All I can say is until then is: dont carry it in your hands?  It sucks but when entering NCR, ya should be checking whats in your hands out of habit anyway.  Its only a shovel, anyhow...

As the others said. Don't carry it in your hands, it's considered a weapon.
IIRC correct you can attack with the shovel, that's why.

It does less damage than your fists, should your fists be considered weapons too?

You can't "equip" your fists.

They also will kill you if you're holding stimulator in the hand.
So it looks like you can poke someone to death with it.
Yea I know it's drugs, and probably fixed already.. or no? I don't know.

You can't "equip" your fists.
Because they're already equipped...

Now tell me how one would "unequip" his arms?  ::)
The antiweapon/antidrug system is fine as it is.
Just watch your active slots before you go to the inner city.

I know it's just that silly me can be forgetful sometimes and it's a bit annoying being executed on the streets just for carrying a stinking old shovel around  :)
Especially when you have a pocketful of hard earned caps!

I suppose such is life.

It's feasible I suppose considering the restrictions they have now when it comes to taking items on planes. You can only get plastic knives and forks just so you don't suddenly decide to murder everyone on the plane  :D
Mabye NCR guards are just as picky as modern day airport/airline security?
