having a high unarmed skill will unlock some special unarmed atacks, some have more critical chance.
but it has nothing to do with this perk...
Also, does having a higher unarmed skill boost the chance of a crit?

Yeah its only +2 max, all melee dmg in general only contributes to max as far as ive seen. So taking heavy handed and 10 ST just "might" make you swing harder, its all a chance of luck with the rolls. Minimum dmg is horrifyingly low on melee atleast no matter what you boost.So currently crit/dmg hybrid is best way to go, pure dmg is just a matter of luck.
