Char 1 vs traders
« on: September 03, 2010, 12:47:11 am »

we all know how things are about charisma 1 chars

they need to go to specific locations to sell/buy stuff ,wich is a good way to penalise smal charisma players and to increase the importance of charisma

wheres my idea to help charisma 1 players a bit while keeping, if not increasing, the importance of charisma:

make traders prioritise the high charisma players, for example:

a player talks with a npc, if another player with higher charisma clicks on the same npc that npc will end conversations with the lowest charima player and start with the highest one.

wheres the good part: char 1 players will still have difficulty trading stuff, but at the same time they dont have to go necesseraly to specific towns to do so.

this measure could be applyed to only a few towns ( playerd friendly).

its very easy to code it

Right now anything that has to do with buffing or nerfing certain skills or stats simply encourages alts. Besides cha1 dudes don't buy or sell anything, they just fight. They aren't interacting with npcs in any other way because they don't have to.

I dont think people realise the "meaning" of Charisma 1... when considering that 4-5 is the "norm".

We are not talking just about someone disfigured, we are talking about someone whose looks and personality are barely human. I didnt know that people with charisma 1 could even trade with anybody! I mean I guess they could trade with ghouls and other players but the way I understand Fallout, someone with charisma 1 could end up being shot for approaching a city!

It doesnt have to always be an ugly visual appearance. Ch1 character can look like an almost average person, but in some way be mind-twisted, antisocial, who presents obnouxius behaviour, somebody with 'i-don't-want-even-to-stay-next-to-him-aura' :P

This is a fallout cha 1 player.

Anyway the suggestion isn't a bad one if it was combined with how it is now...
There should be traders who just won't trade with cha 1...

Most of the trader dont trade with cha 1 char. And more strategic penalization of cha 1 chars will just encourage alting. That suggestion is sensless in current state of things. Cha 1 characters will there be as long as charisma is useless for combat.

charisma is already used by merc-drivers. Still, 4 supermutants with RL's aren't so useless for combat IMO :P

The best way to make charisma practical is to make it useful in combat. Yes, you can buy mercs, but apparently they're not useful enough for everybody to want them in the same way something like action points are.

Companions who you can recruit through your charm. Who respawn and level up as you do. Are you telling me a charisma 10 character should have to buy or enslave all his friends?

Heh nice pic.

But anyway, I don't think too low stats should have any major negative consequences. Players shouldn't be able to cripple their chars at some areas too much because such person couldn't exist in the wasteland because he would have so much problems with his lacking abilities that he would just die.

You mean character should prove himself to every town everytime with quests(in future) and selling items if his CH is too low, because his reputation will diminish with a time from any number to -1501, depending on how low CH.
So with 1-4 CH you'll need to keep reputation for example at NCR by quests/trading or else you'll be shot on sight.
With 5 or more CH your reputation only diminish from <-201 to -200 and from >201 to 200 like now, but with higher CH it'll diminish slower from >201 to 200, and faster from <-201 to -200, in other words, high CH will allow you to restore negative reputation faster, and lose positive reputation slower, while low CH will always diminish your reputation to negative with speed depending on how low your CH, it also may include unguarded towns, and with bad reputation at unguarded town all militia/citizens there will attack anyone who has <-1500 reputation, so 1 CH characters will be pain is ass to operate, but 1 CH... it's alot free SPECIAL points, it should be almost like 1 LK or 1 EN or 1 AG.

how come facilitating barter to char 1 players encourages alts?

i have a char 1 characterl with SG 2/ armor 2 and i want to sell /buy without having to go to geck.. also remember the new traveling time

could make in character creation, that the charisma can not be less than 3.
Wrapped it tends to confuse charisma with the beauty of the person. That is incorrect. A person can be very beautiful, but be not many charismatic.
Have a Charisma of 1 means a complete lack of charisma, that even death itself would not close. Rather kill him just to never see him again.
